How to find all the backlinks of a website?
-
Hello,
I would like to know if there is a tool or a way to find all the backlinks of a website in order to understand how this site does get traffic?
Thanks,
JD

No shame! It keeps us all on our toes - and employed!!
I use the free and easy to use Screaming Frog software.
Good luck!!

SEO Spyglass is a great product for this. Even the free version is quite useful, you just won't be able to save or export data.

Hello,
It would be for the analysis of a competitor's strategy, shame on me...

Joe's answer was great. Just to add to that, you can see where actual traffic is coming from on your site by installing Google Analytics on each page of your site, then looking at the "Traffic Sources" report. Direct traffic is people who navigated directly to your site (aka type in domainname.com), referring sites are people who click on links to your site, and search refers to people who found you via search engines. Backlinks can result in referral traffic, but ultimately generally help your site to perform better in organic search, which would get you more search traffic. Definitely check out: http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo for more info.

SEOmoz's Open Site Explorer can give you a fairly deep backlink analysis. Majestic SEO also gives a very deep look at backlinks. Is this for your own site or a competitor? If looking at where your own site's traffic is coming from, Google Webmaster Tools and Google Analytics will give you better insight than a backlink profile will, as a backlink might not actually get any use from humans.

I can see competitors ranking for certain long-tail keywords but cannot find them on web pages. What am I missing?
Hi there. I'm pretty new to SEO and I've been doing a fair bit of training but there is one aspect I have yet to grasp. When I carry out keyword research, I get all these results and I understand the metrics. What I'm not getting is, when a competitor is ranking highly for say "where can I buy fresh turkeys", I assume that that phrase must appear somewhere on the page, but it doesn't. I realise I'm just not thinking about this in the right way. Can anyone offer clarification, please? Kind regards, Bruce

How can I find out the exact match visitors for a competitor's website?
Hi, I'm trying to find a way of finding out the estimated number of exact match visitors that a competitor's website has got. I know that SEO agencies can find this out, and there must be a way of doing this for myself. Thanks

Why is my website not in the top 3 if our Moz statistics are better?
Hi, We've been using Moz, for our E-commerce sites, for some time now and are improving all of our statistics, be it on-page for specific keywords or general crawl errors, but I've not been seeing a lot of change in our rankings... (we've moved from place 7 to 6 on our main keyword). I'm thinking of looking at our backlinks, through Link Detox, after we finish our Moz optimisation to see if anything weird is going on with that. Are there any other areas I should be looking at? any other clues as to why we're not ranking higher than our competitors. Even if our Moz statistics are better and our Market Samurai values are similar? Thank you very much! Alexander

White branded website & SEO
Hi guys, We might have as a new project to create a white branded website for a big portal in our local market (which have a strongest domain than ours): the goal will be to reach their big mass of users and if possible, place this new site BEHIND us on the SERPs. Since the content of the new website will basically be the same, we are considering 2 solutions: to "noindex" the site on search engines, which is a "secure" way to not create ourself a competitor to allow the site to be indexed on search engines but using the "rel=canonical" strategy to not be affected by duplicate content penalties (For example, we plan to add rel='canonical' href='http://www.ourdomain.com/category1/product2' /> on their page http://newsubdomain.theirdomain.com/category1/product2) The main question is: can the white branded website rank better than our site even with the "canonical" strategy? (Of course we could "lower" the quality of the white-branded website pages to avoid that risk... but if somebody has better advices, we would be glad to hear them 😉 )

What is the best tool to monitor your competitor's backlinks?
I am looking for a tool that not only accurately tells me how many links are being built by a competitor, I want to know the specific URLs for specific periods. If I can filter/search by time periods, i.e which links were added for the month of August, 2012, that would be great. Thanks for the help.

Competitor Ranking High has 2 Domains, But Duplicate Website ?
I was using OSE and noticed all the backlinks to one of our competitors is there other domain name, which is the EXACT SAME website. You can enter both url's and they display the same content. They are not useing any canonical tags either. Why are they not penalized for duplicate content? And for using there own website for backlinks ? We try to do everything right, but still cannot beat them. Any thoughts on this?
