Avoid Keyword Stuffing in Document
-
Hi All,
On my on-page-grade-report its suggested not to use keyword more than 15 times.
Its a eCommerce site and we have brands and we have ranges within the brand. Now the problem i am facing is before each range the brand name is mentioned
For eg. Levis is the brand and 501 is the range - the brand page is being optimized for keyword "Levis".
All ranges for Levis is listed on same page as Levis 501, Levis 503, Levis 506 and so on...
As the ranges are above 15 in number my main keyword "Levis" is being used well over 15 times.
I would appreciate if you guys can suggest if its very necessary to remove repetitive keyword before each range i.e call it Just 501, 503, 506.
Or can i leave it as it is.
Let me know your views,
Sohail

Hi,
I'm new to MOZ and I love the tools. I run a couple of websites that I have optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin.
Yoast tells how many keywords and if it's enough or to less. In my case all websites meet the Yoast credentials.
Now I'm running each page through MOZ and I got all A grades which is great, but many pages I have keyword stuffing.
If the article is 2000 words or just 800, it's the same error. Yoast counts words/keywords depending on the length of the article.
I don't see this within MOZ and I doubt if an article is 2000 words I can't use the keyword 20 times, that's just 1% but MOZ tells me stuffing.
Would also like to learn more about this.

Hi Egol/Matt/Moosa,
Many Thanks for your responses, Its more clear to me as consciously I am not repeating the brand keyword, Its just that the ranges are known with the brand name as prefix with the range name.
I checked in keywordtool.io and the searches made by users for the ranges are 99% with the brand name + range.
So i shall stick to it as it is and ignore the warnings on on page grader.
Its just that, psychologically you want to see a green score on grader tool.
Thank you again

For sure.
Doesn't mean we couldn't clarify things a bit better!

Matt, when explained that way I agree.
My comments address "levis". But when you look at "buy dark khaki levis 514" then 15 times is pretty heavy even on long content.
-
Thanks for that feedback, EGOL! Noted.
tigersohelll - EGOL and Moosa are correct. The guidelines in On-Page Optimization are intended to help folks stick to keyword targeting best practices, but the most important thing is to have natural, high-quality content that's useful for your visitors. For a brand name like "Levis" on an ecommerce site that sells Levi's, it'd be pretty reasonable to have more than 15 instances of the term.
Also, keep in mind that the same tool is used for more long-tail keywords, which could get pretty cumbersome if repeated too often. Say you were grading a page for the term "buy dark khaki levis 514." It'd be pretty tough to work that in organically 15+ times, and even tougher to make it seem natural! For something much more broad, though, like "levis" on its own, you should be perfectly fine.
Does that make sense?

my on-page-grade-report its suggested not to use keyword more than 15 times.
If you write in natural language you will probably use the keyword many times in an article - especially in an article that is quite long. If you try to follow this rule, then I am quite sure that your articles are going to start stinking.
I looked at two of my most popular articles, that each rank on the first page of google for very difficult, very commercial queries, where competition is thick. In one of those articles, I used the keyword over 120 times. In the other it was used over 100 times.
In my opinion, Moz should edit this advice. I have heard people ask about it in Q&A many times. I think that it builds unnecessary concern in conscientious people and it simply does not hold up in practice. The person who wrote it should reflect upon the advice that they are giving and go out into the SERPs and see if it holds up.
How many people are writing poorly and unnaturally trying to follow this rule?

It is important not to stuff the keywords in the content but from this I usually mean not to add keywords where it doesn’t make sense. If I would be at your place I would have thought from the user point of view.
Will the user be fine if they see the range with a brand name? If yes, I probably would go for it but if not I have to think about the alternate solution.
Whenever you are stuck with this kind of stuff, think about your customers more than SEO or Google as your customers at the end of the day are going to help you grow.
Just a thought!

Importance (or lack of) Meta keywords tags and Tags in Drupal
I'm wondering should I put any effort in making Meta Keywords tags for my pages or normal Tags (they're separate in Drupal), since apparently first are not considered by most of search engines, while not sure about normal tags. Obviously SERPS has to determine partial valu of the page by content, thus consider keywords / tags to some extend. What's your opinion on that. Thank you.

Keyword research
Do I understand it correctly ? Let's say my keyword is Piedmont bike tours. From what I understand I need to use synonyms of Piedmont bike tours that people would use to find my website such as bike trip in Piedmont or cycling vacation in Piedmont and then closely related phrases in my content which are not necessarily synonyms but that semantically related, correct ? Do I need to do that for every topic that I decide to talk about on my webpage. For example let's say another topic I have decided to talk about on my page about Piedmont bike tour is Barolo. Do I need to do the same process for Barolo ? Thank you,

Keyword On Page 1 Everywhere but Google (Site Specific)
Website: www.wheelchairparts.com
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Mike.Bean
Keyword: wheelchair parts My website is #1 or #2 on almost every search engine besides Google. Google has us bouncing between the bottom of page 2 and top of 3. However we are on page one for "wheelchairparts". I need to get a link building campaign going for this site. I feel it's more difficult for ecommerce websites and nothing seems to fit in with Rand's Mozcon 2016 Link Building talk except hacks. I need to find a flywheel. Either way, my question is what can I do other than link building to get on page 1 of Google for the term "wheelchair parts"? Thanks in advance! - Mike Bean1 -
Why is Google ranking irrelevant / not preferred pages for keywords?
Over the past few months we have been chipping away at duplicate content issues. We know this is our biggest issue and is working against us. However, it is due to this client also owning the competitor site. Therefore, product merchandise and top level categories are highly similar, including a shared server. Our rank is suffering major for this, which we understand. However, as we make changes, and I track and perform test searches, the pages that Google ranks for keywords never seems to match or make sense, at all. For example, I search for "solid scrub tops" and it ranks the "print scrub tops" category. Or the "Men Clearance" page is ranking for keyword "Women Scrub Pants". Or, I will search for a specific brand, and it ranks a completely different brand. Has anyone else seen this behavior with duplicate content issues? Or is it an issue with some other penalty? At this point, our only option is to test something and see what impact it has, but it is difficult to do when keywords do not align with content.

Multiple Keywords for a site
I have a client that is OBSESSED with KWP ranking (don't go there...I know) This client offers multiple services, dog boarding, dog grooming, dog training, dog daycare and dog walking. Essentially these are our focus. She ranks on page one for all of these words (locally of course) BUT she wants to rank in positions 1 and 2 for all of these words. Here's my rub, with her limited budget, we focus on 1 word (and associated long tails like "dog boarding in the south loop) and it takes a couple of months to zoom up to positions 1 or 2 (not counting map pack....she wants ORGANIC) While we're focusing on this 1 word, the others maintain their ranking or slip a few spots (like from 6 to 😎 Conversions average about about 1 a day, organic traffic is roughly 1000 hits a month. In your opinion is it better to split this focus between the 5 target words every month, more slowly building ranking, but maintaining it for longer periods of time. Or do it the way we have been chase dog boarding, then chase training, and so on. It just seems like we are CONSTANTLY chasing something while something else falls. Thanks Tracy

Optimize Pages for Keywords Prior to Building Links?
Greetings MOZ Community: According to site audit by a reputable SEO firm last November, my commercial real estate web site has a toxic link profile which is very weak (about 58% of links qualified as toxic). The SEO firm suggests than we immediately start pruning the link profile, requesting removal of the toxic links and eventually filing a link disavow file with Google for links that web masters will not agree to remove. While removing toxic links, the SEO firm proposes to simultaneously solicit very high quality links, to try to obtain 7-12 high quality links per month. My question is the following: is it putting the cart before the horse to work on link building without optimizing pages (with Yoast) for specific keywords? I would think that Google considers how each page is optimized for specific terms; which terms are used within the link structure, as well as terms within the meta tags. My site is partially optimized, but optimization has never been done thoroughly. Should the pages of the site be optimized for the top 25-30 terms before link building begins. Or can that be done at a later stage. Note that my link profile is pretty atrocious. My site at the moment is receiving about 1,000 unique visitors a week from organic search. However 70% of the traffic is from terms that are not relevant. The firm that did my audit claims that removal of the toxic links while building some new links is imperative and that optimization for keywords can wait somewhat. Any thoughts?/ Thanks for your assistance. Alan

Google is ranking the wrong page for the targeted keyword
I have two examples below where we want it to rank for the targeted page but google picked another page to rank instead. This is happening a lot on this site I just recently started to work on. Example 1 Googles Choice for key word Motorcycle Tires: http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/cl/50/Tires-and-Wheels What we want Google to choice for Motorcycle Tires: http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/c/49/-/181/Motorcycle-Tires Other pages about Motorcycle tires: http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/d/12/Motorcycle-Tires We even used the rel="canonical" for this url to point to our target page. http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/c/50/-/181/Motorcycle-Tires Example 2 ATV Tires We want this page to rank http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/c/43/81/165/ATV-Tires however google has decided to rank http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/t/43/81/165/723/ATV-Tires-All that is acutally one folder under where we want it.
