New Mozscape index released! Learn just what's been going on.
-
Hi everyone,
I'm very, very pleased to announce that the latest Mozscape index has been released five days ahead of schedule, and it's back up to the quality you expect from Moz!
It's no secret that we've struggled this year with our index. I can't overstate how much we appreciate everyone sticking with us—we know how hard this has been. The good news—well, apart from the early release—is that we've worked out the issue, and we expect to finally be back on track moving forward.
Director of Engineering Martin York has shared a post to the Moz blog explaining just what's been going so wrong, and outlining our plan for the future. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for being such an incredible community.
As for the folks who are seeing Domain Authority and Page Authority drops since the index release, please see Rand's recent post for more.

Thank you for this very helpful response, Matt!

Yes. Domain Authority is recalculated with each new index. I'll quote Rand, from a comment on the blog post:
"Yeah - almost certainly related to this update, and very possibly to the quantity of domains we were previously crawling and counting from .cn and .pl. Going forward, PA/DA should keep getting slightly more accurate."
-
Very possibly. Domain Authority is calculated using the index, and updates along with it. If the new index indicates that a site's Domain Authority has changed, then it will update.
EDIT: Rereading this, I realize it's kind of misleading. Shifts in the index can affect Domain Authority whether or not anything has changed in the site's link profile. Because Domain Authority is always on a 1-100 scale, shifts in the size and composition of the index can essentially change the definition on a given score.
With this in mind, we generally recommend using DA to benchmark against competitors rather than as an absolute measure of link profile quality. If your DA has dropped but so have DAs across your industry, then you're actually in the same relative position. Does that make sense?
-
Wondering about this myself.... I´ve done a lot of work for one of our sites, but still no increase in DA...

Our site just experienced a sudden drop in our DA overnight. Could it be caused by this Moz indexation update?
-
Hi Matt
Will this affect the Domain Authority score Moz shows for a site?
Thank you!

Just when you start automatically expecting Mozscape update to be delayed... The new index gets released early! Thanks, guys!

A competitor's SEO firm is building spammy links to my website.
A competitor's SEO firm is building spammy links to my website. I know the disavow link process, but even this can be time consuming. Is there a better way to protect my website? Any and all ideas appreciated.... Are there any cool Moz tools that can help me manage this assault? Sorry, just a follow up from me... It appears that many of the spammy links (referrals) I see in Google Analytics are not present in Google WebMaster Tools. Does this mean that the spammy ones that I'm concerned about have already been discounted by Google, or are the spammy links no-follow? Any input on this would also be appreciated.

What is the best free 'contact finder' tool?
What is the best free 'contact finder' tool? By contact finder I mean a tool that can search multiple websites and display the contact details of each site. Why do Moz not provide such a tool? Thanks

I've tried everything, and my blog still falling
Hello everyone! 🙂 I'm almost desperate, and trying to find a solution to one of my blogs. Below is it URL: http://www.xboxplus.net/ It has more than 3 years, and even so I get just around 700-1000 visitors a day. I have already applied several SEO techniques, tried several SEO plugins, tried to work with keywords, etc, but nothing changes. I see several other sites and blogs of the same niche (games), with much less content (I have more than 3800 articles, in 3 years), practicing plagiarism, stealing content, etc, and with much more visitors and revenue. I have never done nothing wrong. Never stole content. I always worked honestly, and always tried to write articles with "something more". I really don't know what happens with XboxPlus.net . And, how can, for example, Seomoz helps me, here? I would be very grateful for any help. 😄

Links don't add up
Sorry if this is obvious, but I'm new to seomoz. I've run an analysis for one of my pages and it's showing 624 total links - 118 internal and 6 external. Why doesn't the sum of the internal and external links equal the total links?

Linkbuilding: Unlearning the learned?
Ok, I'm still only on my second day as a SEOMoz Pro member so I've obviously got a whole lot of learning still left to do. However, I still wanted to post up a question here that seems to have occurred time and time again today. The thing is when I've been link building in the past, I've been looking for high PR pages with not many OBL. Having watched a few of the seminars and played around with OpenSiteExplorer though, it seems that I might have got my priorities wrong. OSE for example seems to only look at the strength of the domain and the page within that domain ... and I'm assuming that OBL aren't too important in calculating a page's strength given that a lot of the links I see my competitors have built up are technically stronger despite being on a page with around 12 or 15 other links. So I guess my question is, should I be ignoring PR rankings and numbers of links on a page and throwing my trust totally behind OSE? Are they really no longer that important? Thanks a lot for your help.

Open Site Explorer Missing URL's
I see a link to my site on a couple different url's, but they are not listed in OSE. The links have been active for a long time too. Does OSE not track all inbound links from all sites? Thanks, Stephen

Which would you chose? Link on PA56 with 88 OBL's and 80 IBL's or a link on a PA75 with 225 OBL's & 40 IBL (Same Domain)
Which would you chose? Link on PA56 with 88 OBL's and 80 IBL's or a link on a PA75 with 225 OBL's & 40 IBL (Same Domain) Pretty self explanatory. I want to know what metrics SEOMozzers rely on most. If you are not an expert at evaluating links for large scale development please don't muddy the waters on this question with a thin and vague answer.
