Getting page cached
-
I am reworking some content that is deep in my site. What is the best way for google to find it? Some of the pages were cached about 3 weeks ago, but I don't want to wait too long to get them to see the new content (and links).
-
Cool, will give it a try!
-
OKay, thanks again!

I haven't seen any documentation by Google supporting this. In my experience I have seen it be successful. However, I haven't run any significant tests to back it up. It has just worked for me, so hoping it works for others. However, Fetch as Googlebot was still in the labs when I saw this working, so I'm not sure if this has changed.
-
I've heard from others that this can be very effective and I've seen good results getting pages cached quickly (a couple of days) after using it. I've used this very sparingly, so I don't know the period for the allotment. I also used this when it was in the Google Labs. They may have made a few changes when they brought it out of the lab.

If this works, I have also learnt something new today. I always thought this just gave webmasters a chance to look at pages in the way Google would see them. Are you sure this actually sends the real Googlebot to crawl and cache a page?
I didn't see it mentioned here:
http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=158587Or have you found that it just speeds up the process? i.e. Google have been given some form of indication of where to visit? Definitely interesting!

Stupid question Joe, but is that safe to do? I just submitted 3 URL's successfully, and says I have 47 left. Is 50 a monthly number allotment? So if it was fetched successfully, does that mean google will be caching page soon?
This is pretty cool if it really works.
Thanks,
Mike

Go into webmaster tools > Diagnostics> Fetch as Googlebot. Enter the URL for the page you want crawled.
-
If your homepage is crawled regularly link to them from your homepage for a period of time. Alternatively, using social signals has worked a charm for me recently - tweet about them, share on Facebook etc, get other people to share.

Too many links per page? Double navigation on every page...
I have a client with navigation across the top of each page plus the same nav links in a sidebar on every page. Can that duplication (or the sheer number of links) on each page have a negative ranking factor?

Google Indexed = 35, 445 pages, Bing Indexed = 243 pages... Why?
Dear MozSquad, Can anyone check our site and let me know if there's anything super apparent that would cause Bing to treat us like a bum on the street? I recently made some structural changes which really helped with Google, but Bing didn't even budge. It's a lot harder to keep up with all the SEO initiatives I have in mind with it being a small start-up where I'm responsible for planning the entire Internet Marketing campaign, giving constant input on UX and site design, etc on top of 900 other things, so I figured it'd be a good time to use The Moz to help a brother out. Which Meta Tags would you recommend having on the pages?
Hello, There are so many different meta tags which you can implement to the header of your website and I'm wanting to get people's opinions on which you feel are worth putting in and which are completely pointless? For example: Author Copyright Language Content-Type Content-Language Distribution Abstract Keywords Description Classification Canonical Expires Revisit-after Rating I look forward to hearing your comments and suggestions. Changing the Home Page Title
The following question is for an eCommerce site: We have a home page title that has been the same for a few years. I would like to keep the keywords that already exist, but move them into different positions based on seasonality. Format will be (company name) | (keywords). Current format (company name) - (keywords). Rest of the page titles onsite are formatted (keyword)/(product name) | (company name) I think having the same keywords, but in a different order wouldn't hurt us in the SERPs. What are your thoughts?

Duplicate Page Titles
I have over 200 duplicate page titles on a site that I am working on. Does putting a date at the end of some of them make it a unique enough title?

Is there a SEO penalty for multi links on same page going to same destination page?
Hi, Just a quick note. I hope you are able to assist. To cut a long story short, on the page below http://www.bookbluemountains.com.au/ -> Features Specials & Packages (middle column) we have 3 links per special going to the same page.

1. Header is linked
2. Click on image link - currently with a no follow
3. 'More info' under the description paragraph is linked too - currently with a no follow Two arguments are as follows:
1. The reason we do not follow all 3 links is to reduce too many links which may appear spammy to Google. 2. Counter argument:
The point above has some validity, However, using no follow is basically telling the search engines that the webmaster “does not trust or doesn’t take responsibility” for what is behind the link, something you don’t want to do within your own website. There is no penalty as such for having too many links, the search engines will generally not worry after a certain number.. nothing that would concern this business though. I would suggest changing the no follow links a.s.a.p. Could you please advise thoughts. Many thanks Dave Upton [long signature removed by staff]0 -
Optimally, how many times should the key word or phrase you are targeting for a particular page be mentioned or appear on that page?
Our marketing team is debating how many times the key phrase on each of our web store's product pages should include the word/phrase we are trying to be competitive with. Can you advise?
