DA/PA has reverted to 1?
-
Hi,
Looking for some advise. I have a local business website that was built and managed by a web developer. The site was/is very basic and really was only there as a place for potential customers to visit after finding out about us via more traditional local marketing.
I decided to make the website work for us more and improve the SEO etc to get it ranking better and finding us customers rather than us sending customers to the website.
Long story short I wanted to change from an HTML site to a wordpress site to enable me more control over updates/blogging etc. Web developer said he only works with HTML, so I decided to go it alone. As things stand the website hasn't been changed and still remains hosted by the developer but on the 12th of February he transferred the domain to me.
Now I'm not sure exactly what my DA was in February but it was at least double figures but now it is 1. As I said only thing that has changed as far as I'm aware is the transfer of the domain to me.
I'm at the point were I'm close to doing the transfer over to wordpress. Been working on keywords, content etc to make things better but then noticed my issue. Anybody have any ideas why this would have happened? Or the process I can go through to find the route of the problem before I continue with the change over?
Thanks

Hello!
Small sites generally won't stay in our index if we don't find NEW links to a domain. Our cache will remove a link after 190 days unless re-crawled.
I recommend checking Just Discovered to see if your domain is in queue for re-indexing from new discovered links. If not, you will want to keep link building on sites that have high authority and are likely able to be picked up..
There are some insight provided here that will help: https://moz.com/community/q/da-pa-fluctuations-how-to-interpret-apply-understand-these-ml-based-scores
Cheers!

Could you be looking at the wrong (www vs non) version of the site?
Did the dev block robots.txt from all bots (or Mozbot) before transfer?
Are you still cached & indexed in Google?
There's also an ongoing issue with some sites as seen here.

Hi
If nothing has changed other than the domain transfer, so your site is still the same on the same server with the same structure and no other changes have occured such as a sudden loss of links then there is a good chance this could be down to the Moz index update itself. You mentioned your DA was higher in February, however since then there has been updates, you can check more here for updates - https://moz.com/products/api/updates. I have seen others have a similar issue in the past noticing a sudden drop in DA since an update and this is due to the Moz index reducing the amount of URLs in it - it is currently at 139 billion whereas it was at 141 billion on March 2nd and 145 billion at the end of January. If the index is using less links this can lead to it using less links to calculate your domain authority and big drops can be seen in some cases.
In terms of your migration to Wordpress make sure that you 301 redirect the old html URLs to their new location/URL on WordPress.
Although very in-depth you may find some of the information in the post an interesting read - https://moz.com/blog/web-site-migration-guide-tips-for-seos
Hope this helps!
Matt

Best way to absorb discontinued brand/domain?
Our parent company is looking to absorb the domain of a brand we are discontinuing. The domain we want to absorb has a thousands of blog posts from 2010 onward. Much of the content is old but still high-converting. We would like to keep as much of the potential traffic as possible, but we don't want the parent website to become too large or lose credibility with too many 301 redirects. Any advice on the best way to do this?

Subdomain/subfolder question
Hi community, Let's say I have a men's/women's clothing website. Would it be better to do clothing.com/mens and clothing.com/womens OR mens.clothing.com and womens.clothing.com? I understand Moz's stance on blogs that it should be clothing.com/blog, but wanted to ask for this different circumstance. Thanks for your help!

Disallow: /404/ - Best Practice?
Hello Moz Community, My developer has added this to my robots.txt file: Disallow: /404/ Is this considered good practice in the world of SEO? Would you do it with your clients? I feel he has great development knowledge but isn't too well versed in SEO. Thank you in advanced, Nico.

Canonical tag for Home page: with or without / at the end???
Setting up canonical tags for an old site. I really need advice on that darn backslash / at the end of the homepage URL. We have incoming links to the homepage as http://www.mysite.com (without the backslash), and as http://www.mysite.com/ (with the backslash), and as http://www.mysite.com/index.html I know that there should be 301 redirects to just one version, but I need to know more about the canonical tags... Which should the canonical tag be??? (without the backslash) or (with the backslash) Thanks for your help! 🙂

Job/Blog Pages and rel=canonical
Hi, I know there are several questions and articles concerning the rel=canonical on SEOmoz, but I didn't find the answer I was looking for... We have some job pages, URLs are: /jobs and then jobs/2, jobs/3 etc.. Our blog pages follow the same: /blog, /blog2, /blog/3... Our CMS is self-produced, and every job/blog-page has the same title tag. According to SEOmoz (and the Webmaster Tools), we have a lots of duplicate title tags because of this problem. If we put the rel=canonical on each page's source code, the title tag problem will be solved for google, right? Because they will just display the /job and /blog main page. That would be great because we dont want 40 blog pages in the index. My concern (a stupid question, but I am not sure): if we put the rel=canonical on the pages, does google crawl them and index our job links? We want to keep our rankings for our job offers on pages 2-xxx. More simple: will we find our job offers on jobs/2, jobs/3... in google, if these pages have the rel=canonical on them? AND ONE MORE: does the SEOmoz bot also follow the rel=canonical and then reduce the number of duplicate title-tags in the campaigns??? Thanx........

Items 1 to 9 of 22484 total in our Meta Description
Our homepage on our ecommerce site has a category as part of the front page. Unfortunately the top of the category says: Items 1 to 9 of 22484 total Is there a way through GWMT or any other method of stopping Google from adding this on to the front of our Meta Description? Or is the only solution to remove it from the page all together?

The obviuos answr is to do a manual 301 redirect n the htaccess file but this will a long process as there are over 500 urls affected. Is there a better way to do this automatically within Drupal? Your thoughts and ideas are welcome.

Level 1 Child Redirect to Level 3 (SEO)
Hi Guys, I'd like to get an SEO point of view on Redirecting Level 1 Pages (ie: main pages) to Level 3. I'm not a web-developer but lately I'm noticing a lot of main nav bar tabs redirected to child pages. When I go to click on what I assume is my main Motorcycle Level One Page the url looks something like this. example.com/motorcycles/bandit/cb600-hornet Essentially there is no content in the first 2 levels, how will this affect my SEO efforts? Also, is there any point adding in title and description tags for these 2 levels seems as there is no content? SEO advise would be appreciated, thank you.
