Google search returns blog homepage, but not article
-
When I do a google search for a specific article on our blog the search results only return the blog homepage with the article title shown in the meta description, but never the actual article page. I've tried to refine my search by using site: and quotation marks around the article title (e.g site:www.example.com "article title") but still only get the homepage. Our blog is showing up so I assume it's not an indexing issue, but not sure how to get the article pages to show on serps. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Just a quick follow-up. The articles are now being indexed and driving traffic. Thanks again for the help Ira. Take care

You probably need to wait another day or 2 to have the articles indexed. New posts might show up sooner than your archived content that had the old tag.
Unfortunately, I can't help with the A rel / XFN question. Good luck!
-
Yes we have removed the second meta robot line. I'm still unable to find any article on the serp. It's been less then 24 hours so it'll probably just take some time.
I also installed Meta SEO inspector and noticed that it lists an A rel / XFN which indicates "no follow". Do either of you have any insight into what this might do? I've read into it about how it represents human relationships using hyperlinks, but not sure why it would be set as no follow.

Thanks Ira! I have requested to have the second one robot line removed.

You seem to have 2 meta robots lines, the first is set to index (line 60), but the second is set to noindex (line 85). (from view-source:http://www.sierratradingpost.com/blog/climbing/choose-right-rock-climbing-shoes/)

Thanks everyone for the responses! Here is the blog URL

Hi STP_SEO! Any chance you can share the URL?
-
STP_SEO This could have many causes. Can you share the site so we can have a look?
-
One thought is that the individual pages could have a noindex tag, while the main blog page does not. If that is not the issue (and it would seem unlikely, but you never know) can you share your site with us? That would make it a lot easier to dig deeper.

Metadescription not being pulled by Google? Yoast v SmartCrawl?
Hey guys, For whatever reason, Google isn't pulling the metadescriptions I've provided for a wordpress site I'm working on. We had both Yoast and SmartCrawl installed, so I thought maybe they were confusing Google and deactivated Yoast. Unfortunately, that didn't fix the issue. Instead of using the text I've plugged into SmartCrawl, Google is just using snippets from the blog posts... And it's happening for every single post, leading to a huge uptick in metadata issues in moz. Any idea how to fix this?? Thank you!

Google Rich Snippet
So i have been implementing rich snippets for work and all has been good until now, As you can see below the meta description has all of a sudden included the review date. The review date is the only date on the page. Any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks wqLKKl9

How to redirect subdomain to new blog directory
I have moved my wordpress blog from a subdomain to a subdirectory /blog/ on my site. What is the best way to setup a redirect from the subdomain to the new /blog/ directory? Or should I just delete the subdomain blog and wait for google to index it on /blog/. I need to do one or the other so as not to run into duplicate content issues.

Removing old URLs from Google
We rebuilt a site about a year ago on a new platform however Google is still indexing URL's from the old site that we have no control over. We had hoped that time would have 'cleaned' these out but they are still being flagged in HTML improvements in GWT. Is there anything we can do to effect these 'external' dropping out of the indexing given that they are still being picked up after a year.

Product links on homepage
Hi, I;m wondering if it really does aid SEO or even hinder it now to have lists of top selling products as links on the base of each page. This was recommended to us sometime ago by a consultant so we did it but is it outdated? I'm concerned it may penalise our pages now by creating too many links? opinions appreciated. wwww.gourmetdirect.com and scroll down to see what I mean

No links or traffic to our articles
Hello, Our articles are written by a professional in the field, taylored to what we think our ecommerce customers would most want to know about. But there is no traffic to our articles and almost no inbound links. We have 15 articles around 500 words (roughly) each. We've got a right sidebar banner about our FAQ and articles and a rotating banner with one slde about our articles. Also, we have a tab at the top. We've had a good article section for 5 months, and a descent one for a couple of years Could it be our industry, or what can we do?
