      Hello!

I wanted to give you all a heads up about some changes we will be making to the MozBar very soon.

We will be making an update to the MozBar that will require you to log in with either a free Community account or with your Moz subscription to access link metrics. Don’t worry! We will never charge you for link metrics in the MozBar.

Why are we making this change?
The MozBar has historically made use of a free endpoint in our Mozscape API. Unfortunately, over time, we have been experiencing increasing levels of abuse on this endpoint. For a long time, we were able to manage this mis-use but recently we have reached a tipping point whereby this malicious traffic is starting to degrade other legitimate API traffic and cause performance issues within our products.

By asking you to log in to the MozBar with either a free Community account or a Moz subscription, we can ensure only authenticated users are able to use the MozBar. Also, if you don’t need link metrics, you can still use the MozBar. Logged out users will still be able to access on-page information.

      A note to Firefox users
With this change, we will temporarily disable the Firefox version of the MozBar. You may have noticed that the Firefox and Chrome versions of the MozBar are not the same. This is due to Mozilla’s review process, and us being unable to get new versions approved despite multiple attempts.

Good news on the horizon! Firefox will start accepting Chrome-based extensions with the release of Firefox v48, which means soon there will be one version of the MozBar. When v48 is released, we will re-enable the MozBar in Firefox. In the meantime you can use the free Google Chrome version.

Thank you for your understanding while we make these changes in the MozBar! Please feel free to let us know what you think, or ask questions, in the comments below.

      Thanks!
      Roxana

Thank you for letting me know, Andrew, and I'm so sorry to disappoint. We've had to weigh this work against other priorities, so still no ETA on getting MozBar into Firefox. I appreciate your feedback and will bring it up again with product and engineering. Thanks again!

Firefox just upped its game in a huge way - it's now super fast and I'm switching away from Chrome. But really disappointed to see that there is no Moz plugin after all this time 😞

Hi there! Thanks so much for looking out for us and bringing this to our attention! I've brought this up with the product and engineering teams and we're going to look into it and see if we'd be able to resolve the issue easily. We need to get a good sense of how much work it'll take before we can prioritize it.

Thanks again for letting us know!

                        Hi!

Mozilla put together a tool to help test Chrome web extensions for compatibility with Firefox. I took the liberty of running the Mozbar extension through this tool, and there is only one issue to be resolved before the existing Chrome extension will run on Firefox. Check it out:

                        https://www.extensiontest.com/test/857d5700-a855-11e7-9c3d-35e0bb5262dd

                        app.runtime is not supported

                        found in the following locations:
                                scripts/browser_button.js:46697
                                scripts/content_page.js:60933

Just a couple changes and this will work on Firefox! Any chance we'll see it soon?

                          Hi Alan,

So sorry for the frustration. We know this is important to many MozBar users and hate to keep you waiting on this. At the moment, we are unable to give an ETA, but it is on our roadmap. I know I sound like a broken record but we had to prioritize this project against other big projects. Sorry, I know this is not the news you wanted to hear.

                          Thanks,

                          Roxana

Going on 1 year and still not working? Not happy to switch to chrome as my other add-ons work better in Firefox Mac. Have to assume at this point FF will be unsupported? Any news would be great.

Also, you need to consider whether or not a site is indexed in Google an effect on DA. Seems odd that a 50+ DA site is de-indexed in Google but still showing great DA in Moz.

Near as I can tell, the biggest technical blocker to porting the Chrome WebExtension to Firefox will disappear in Firefox 53[0], which lands in the general release channel on 2017-04-18[1]. In other words, now is a good time to start porting, since it can be tested in nightly today.

Please do what you can about this. Many of us are waiting somewhat impatiently. Because all of my SEO plugins are on Firefox, I need to open a separate Chrome browser just to use the MozBar. I really need it back on Firefox./

You may find you get a better response with help@moz.com. Did you try a refresh on that page after you've logged in? Sometimes with an error turning the Moz bar on and off again ("Have you tried turning it off and on again?") resolves many issues.

                                        Hope some of those help!

I am not able to see any Link Metrics - even though I'm logged into the Moz website.

                                          Is there a current issue?

                                          Background:

                                          1. Using Mozbar in Chrome

                                          2. Click the blue "Log In" link which takes me to the Moz website and I log in (I have a Moz Pro subscription).

                                          3. Then I go back to the tab for the website I'm reviewing - Link Metrics still displays nothing.

Are  you planning on keeping the export function for the Firefox version? Will you add the export function to the Chrome version?

I think Moz bar is the best item to use for SEO workers.

It present's to you a lot of services in one package, you can find Keyword difficulty, keyword explorer and other vary items.

Ah, this makes so much more sense now! I hadn't read this announcement and have been wondering why Firefox Mozbar was acting all screwy the past few weeks. Finally decided to just try re-installing it this morning, but after I uninstalled I couldn't find it in Firefox's Extensions library!

Looking forward to being able to use it in Firefox again. Unfortunate though that it'll be the current Chrome flavour one. Always seemed to work a lot faster in Firefox than in Chrome, so I tried to push all my Mozbar usage to my "Firefox monitor" rather than my Chrome one when working.

Thanks Rand! That makes sense, I was under impression they will all show up eventually but it makes sense that they arent as comprehensive!

Hi Sandi - Moz won't know about all the links to your site. We don't crawl as fast or comprehensively as Google, so Open Site Explorer will always be showing a sample set rather than a complete picture of every link.

Just to add to Nicholas' question above about Site Explorer, I know some of the links to my website that have been around for over 12 months (ie from my personal blog) and show up in Google Webmaster tools are not flowing through to Moz

                                                              Any ideas?

                                                                          moz

Whilst we’re not completely removing the content - many posts will still be possible to view - we’re locking both new posts and new replies. Why? The truth is that the conversation has moved elsewhere. Sites like Twitter, Reddit, and more recently BlueSky and LinkedIn, have largely replaced specialist forums. At the same time, the challenge of moderating a platform like this has become more difficult, and of course, we’re SEOs, and the sheer quantity of new pages generated, often by malicious actors, has its challenges in terms of what it does to the profile of our site. Forums are still an opportunity for many sites, in SEO and more broadly, but the calculus no longer works for Moz. Where can I ask my question instead? If you’re a customer or currently evaluating a free trial, you can reach out directly with questions about the product to our customer support team here. If you want to learn more about SEO, you can check our learning resources here, and we also offer the Moz Academy. If you just want to hang out, you can also still find us on X, BlueSky, or LinkedIn. Thank you We’re grateful to everyone who has contributed to Moz Q&A over the years. It’s been a blast, and we hope this isn’t the last time we’ll see you here on the Moz site.

TL;DR Many sites and CDN’s across the internet use SNI to help keep pages and resources secure Right now, Moz Pro is unable to crawl sites that use SNI, affecting these customers (you will see an 804 HTTPS SSL error if you are affected) This is being fixed, and we are almost ready to provide beta access to SNI customers If you have an SNI site, are a Moz Pro customer, and wish to be a part of this beta - sign up here http://goo.gl/forms/LCvL9Ix8JDHfbAvr1 Detail SNI (Server Name Identification) is an extension to the TLS security protocol that allows for multiple HTTPS websites to be served from the same IP address without requiring them all to use the same certificate.  This was always possible using wildcard certificates, but these are often impractical, since they are restrictive, and require a webmaster to know all of the hostnames to be served at the time of requesting the certificate.  With SNI, a webmaster can issue a single certificate and support multiple (and changing) hostnames. SNI has become increasingly popular over the last couple of years thanks to: Increase in mainstream browser support Its flexibility for usage in CDNs, like Cloudflare Unfortunately the Moz Pro web crawler has not kept up to date with this trend, and is at present unable to crawl sites that use SNI (the symptom is an 804 HTTPS SSL error).  This affects customers with SNI hosted sites, who miss out on the value of Moz Pro’s Site Crawl tools.  Whilst it might seem a simple fix to support SNI, our crawler software uses libraries that are unable to support the technology without a significant re-write. However, I am happy to say that this re-write is in process, and almost ready for testing.  Behind the scenes we have been working on a major overhaul of our crawl technology which you are going to start to see across many of our products. In fact, Moz Content adopted the new crawler this week, resulting in much faster crawls and support for SNI. Moz Pro is not ready for full implementation yet. That said, we are pretty close to being able to beta test with customers.  For that reason we would like to invite any customers with SNI sites into our closed Beta that will likely start some time in August. Some notes about the beta: Initially, it will be a little behind where the current crawl tools are in terms of features and configuration. That said, we will be iterating fast and beta customers will get automatic access to all new features As with any beta there will be bugs and potential data outages - I want to be transparent about this up-front We will be looking for feedback throughout the beta, and we would love to have our customers help shape the future of our software You must be a paid Moz Pro subscriber (or in a free trial) If you are interested please sign up here - http://goo.gl/forms/LCvL9Ix8JDHfbAvr1.
