Domain Authority

I made some changes to my site and many of my keywords improved dramatically. Its odd however, that the changes caused the domain authority to go down by 3 points, from 20 to 17. Is this a short term thing caused by recent changes and likely to recover?

Moz's index isn't a complete view of the web, but we try to crawl quality sites out there. Our index is always growing. But to be frank, no one -- not even Google -- crawls the entire web. There are just too many pages out there and computing power is expensive. Google crawls the most links simply because Google is a bigger company with more money and more servers and more engineers and who's business depends on serving web pages to everyone.
At Moz, we focus on quality sites because we believe (and hope) our customers and community are focusing on high quality links that are still active, which are going to give them the best SEO results. (Also a huge part of the web is just spam nonsense.) Many SEOs -- and I include myself here -- will use multiple sources of link indexing for the broadest view of the web and their sites. I use Moz's OSE and Google Webmaster Tools (free and big, but includes lots of spam, which can be great if you're fighting a Penguin penalty). Others will use OSE, GWT, and OSE competitors like Majestic and Ahrefs, especially if link building is huge for them and they want to account for every penny. Every index is a bit different.

Yes, it looks like MOZ shows fewer inbound links. But, Google shows I have increased inbound links. Actually, there is a large difference as what MOZ and Google see. Why is that?

It is due to latest Mozscape index on 22nd of June, this has result in drop in DA and PA. I also believe the index include fewer links or url which leads to this drop.it is likely, you've built additional quality/relevant links as you have mentioned, but with the smaller Index these new links, and even previously indexed links, are not being picked up. Therefore, less links are being used to calculate your domain authority score. I would say the drop in your Domain Authority is due to the size of the index.

What automated tools produce a number score for A) On-Page Optimization and B) Domain Exact Match?
SEOMoz Community, -I currently use SEMRush, SEOMoz Open Site Explorer and Archive.org for the other Benefit and Opposition factors. -I’ve had to manually search pages for keyword use in the title, footer & body for on-page optimization. -I’ve also manually searched Google for Domain Exact Matches. Subdomain vs. Root Domain design
I know that there are penalties if you have a navigation item in your categories that links to another site (root domain) that yields the same design as the original link. Is there any negative SEO implications with having a subdomain with the same design as the root domain i.e. root.com vs. store.root.com And the navigation functionality within will have links to both store.root.com as well as root.com directories? Thanks in advance.

Rebranding and Domain Name Changes
Hi All, One of my clients wants to rebrand http://indiaretailnews.com/ so that it's clear that the site is under the operational umbrella of http://tradebriefs.com/. indiaretailnews.com has a lower domain authority of 20, but because of the domain name it ranks number #2 for the keyword "retail news" for Google India. The client's question: Can we change the site names to TradeBriefsRetail.com orTradeBriefsIndiaRetail.com without affecting the SEO on each site? How do we do this – redirect from TradeBriefsIndiaRetail.com to IndiaRetailNews.com and so on or simply put all the content on the new sites and get rid of the old domains or some other way? Do long domain names cause a problem? Another option is TradeBriefsRetail.in, etc with the domain extension showing the country that the content is for.. In a year or two, we will be expanding to markets outside India. My opinion: Keep the old domains and redirect to something like http://tradebriefs.com/india-retail-news Or perhaps a subdomain: http://indiaretailnews.tradebriefs.com In the short term, I'd imagine rankings will drop, but if we wanted to consolidate domain authority, I was thinking that http://tradebriefs.com/india-retail-news would be the best bet. Is my blog simply duplicate content of my authors' profiles?
www.example.com/blog is the full list of blog posts by various writers. The list contains the title of each article and the first paragraph from the article. In addition to /blog being indexed, each author's contribution list is being indexed separately. It's not a profile, really, just a list of articles in the same title & paragraph format of the /blog page. So if /blog a list of 10 articles written by two writers, I have three pages: /blog/author1 is a list of 4 articles /blog/author2 is a list of 6 different articles /blog is a list of 10 articles (the 4+6 from the two writers) Is this going to be considered duplicate content?

Installing a site on top level domain directory VS deeper directory
How important it is for seo to install a site on a top level directory vs deeper directory? example: www.mysite.com VS www.mysite.com/catalog many eCommerce scripts such as oscommerce and cre loaded will install by default to /catalog and that's what I've been doing for most of my customer. does it mean it will be harder for them to get good seo results? How to go after a domain name when the whois info is incorrect.
I found a domain that I'd really like to buy. It's currently active but has just a single image on it (that links to an affiliate product). I'd like to see if the owner would like to sell it to me. But, when I emailed the address that's listed with the whois info it bounced back. Any ideas on how else I can buy this domain?
