SEO impact when micro site are hosted on third party url
-
Have a look at this url
http://www.bekkevold-as.no/.
On the front page they are providing links to a website created by one of their suppliers. (Three cirkle icons in the middle of the page).
The links make the customers leave the site and open on a different domain, even the branding of the page is for Bekkevold Elektro (see log top right)
The question from me:- How will this impact the SEO for Bekkevold Elektro.
- Would it be better to create a subdomain for Bekkevold Elektro and ask the supplier to point to this?
- Or is it ok to leave it as it is, having links back to the web site for Bekkevold Elektro? Just changing the target of the link to open in a new window.
Thank you very much for your support on this. I would appreciate any suggestion for improvement for my customer, Bekkevold Elektro.
Best regards

Hi Kjersti,
Ok, so: Google likes unique content that is original and has added value. This content is probably the same for all installers. Perhaps they have placed to logo of the installer in the top.
Copying it to your domain doesn't make it different from all the other installer-pages on the original domain. If that is the case, i would leave it at that domain. It has no positive effect on your client's site.
What you can do is write great articles on the domain of your client. Take the pages from the supplier as an example and write articles that are much better. More added value, easier to read AND: fun or exciting to read.
That way, you produce original content that visitors will want to read. Word for word. Perhaps they will even share it on their social media accounts. This way: you make this site stronger and will almost certainly improve the position in the SERP's. If people are actually starting to share these articles in social media, you will also improve the local visibility of your client.

Hi Bas,
Thank you for your reply.
I don't think it is possible to copy/paste to the clients domain since this is part of an application developed by a second supplier.
But would it be an idea to create a sub domain like:
boligpartner.bekkevold-as.noThe application is developed for several different installers in Norway who sell products from this supplier. All of these micro sites is linked to the same domain with a sub folder for each installers. Is this good or bad? If you had the chance to make some suggestions before the application was developed. Would you propose a different solution to this supplier?
Thank you so much for your support to help me understand

Hi Kjersti,
Since the content of the microsite is not on your domain, Google won't credit you for that content. Meaning: you don't have to expect your site to get a higher ranking due to this content.
As long as you don't have the same content on your own domain as well, you won't get a penalty either.
So: all in all, for now i cannot see how this content will impact your search results. In a positive or negative way.If you wanted to rank higher you would have to have this content on your domain.
Please pay attention: make sure you only hare original content on every domain you work for! Just copy this content and place it on the clients domain won't work and might even backfire. If you want, you can read an article i've recently written. The article is my analysis of what great content nowadays is. It's in Dutch so i can image you'd have to use Google Translate.

How does a page with a canonical for another domain impact SEO?
Hi, We have a requirement to host files that contains .html, .css, .js, and .pdf files externally on AWS S3 bucket. We have a landing page on our site that contains a link to those external links (i.e. pdf). On our site's (hosted on Drupal), landing page we already have a canonical link for the current landing page. On the .html file which is hosted externally, we were thinking to add the same canonical link that exists for the landing page so that search engines will go to the externally available .html file and interpret that the externally hosted file is related to our landing page. I was wondering if this is an acceptable solution without any SEO penalty. If there is a penalty, what would be the alternative solution to this so we can host files externally and drive most of the traffic to our landing page? Example Landing page: absolute url = https://www.site-domain.com/page-url ...... Externally available .html file (static) ......

Does blocking foreign country IP traffic to site, hurt my SEO / US Google rankings?
I have a website is is only of interest to US visitors. 99% (at least) of Adsense income is from the US. But I'm getting constant attempts by hackers to login to my admin account. I have countermeasures fo combat that and am initiating others. But here's my question: I am considering not allowing any non US, or at least any non-North American, traffic to the site via a Wordpress plugin that does this. I know it will not affect my business negatively, directly. However, are there any ramifications of the Google bots of these blocked countries not being able to access my site? Does it affect the rankings of my site in the US Google searches. At the very least I could block China, Russia and some eastern European countries.

SEO within the URL /
If I were optimizing for 'marketing success' and my URL structure was domain.com/marketing/success would that count? I'm not sure if the '/' affects the keyword term. My assumption is that it does, but I wasn't 100% sure. Thanks!

Does link juice pass along the URL or the folders? 10yr old PR 6 site
We have a website that is ~10yrs old and a PR 6. It has a bunch of legitimate links from .edu and .gov sites. Until now the owner has never blogged or added much content to the site. We have suggested that to grow his traffic organically he should add a worpress blog and get agressive with his content. The IT guy is concerned about putting a wordpress blog on the same server as the main site because of security issues with WP. They have a bunch of credit card info on file. So, would it be better to just put the blog on a subdomain like blog.mysite.com OR host the blog on another server but have the URL structure be mysite.com/blog? I have tried to pass as much juice as possible. Any ideas?

PDF on financial site that duplicates ~50% of site content
I have a financial advisor client who has a downloadable PDF on his site that contains about 9 pages of good info. Problem is much of the content can also be found on individual pages of his site. Is it best to noindex/follow the pdf? It would be great to let the few pages of original content be crawlable, but I'm concerned about the duplicate content aspect. Thanks --

It appears that Googlebot Mobile will look for mobile redirects from the desktop site, but still use the SEO from the desktop site.
Is the above statement correct? I've read that its better to have different SEO titles & descriptions for mobile sites as users search differently on mobile devices. I've also read it's good to link build, keep text content on mobile sites etc to get the mobile site to rank. If I choose to not have titles & descriptions on my mobile site will Google just rank our desktop version & then redirect a user on a mobile device to our mobile site or should I be adding in titles & descriptions into the mobile site? Thanks so much for any help!

Schema markup for videos: Are video schema tags only for use on video hosted by a site or do they also apply to embedded videos hosted on YouTube?
We do not currently have a native video hosting solution for our site and instead embed videos that are hosted on YouTube. Can video schema markup be used for YouTube hosted video? Thank you.

Are sites that leave out www from domain at a disadvantage to domains with www in url
I know this has been discussed but was wondering what would be the best approach from an SEO perspective. I quite like the idea of setting up websites with domains without www but always worry that setting up domains without www has a disadvantage because user are use to referring to sites with the www included. Thus one of my fears are that users would link back using www version which will mean even if you do a 301 redirect that some of the link juice would be lost. I know some famous sites have used this convention such as http://searchenginewatch.com/ so think it would be possible but still concerned that for new sites it would be better to rather stick to conventions. What are your opinions about this?
