404 page cannot be created - Best solution?
-
Hi all,
i am helping a frind with his page, he is very shot on money and cannot spend a dime on programers or learn how to create a 404 page.
His web is in php laravel, also i dont know how to create one.My options are:
- Leave the 404 page to be just like that.
- Redirect, via .htaccess to homepage.
What should recommend him to do?
Thanks!

Marcus,
Thanks a lot! I've never imagined a simple solution as this one.
For the template, i've chosen one from here: https://w3layouts.com/?s=404
For the .htaccess, that tutorial was really handy. -
Thanks! I've gone with the solution that Marcus Shared.

His business is not doing so well these times.
And his site was made specific as que desidered, so now any change must fo through a developer.Yeap, it takes a few minutes, but that minutes are money.
Thanks any way.
I'm finding a way with some 404 template and .htaccess -
Hey
This is how I would handle it if budget is a concern:
1. find or create a good looking 404 page - there are plenty of HTML templates out there.
2. add a htaccess rule to redirect all 404's to this landing page - instructions here: http://www.htaccessbasics.com/404-custom-error-page/
Hope that helps
Marcus

Hi
Not up on Laravel these days but with no dollar to play with, your best friend would be Google.
Does this help => https://mattstauffer.co/blog/laravel-5.0-custom-error-pages
Hope so,
Good luck.

Hello,
If your friends don't have money to generate 404, what he expects from his website in the end? A single webpage? CV ?
Without money you can still have a Facebook page, Google local, Wordpress blog... All are already optimized.(for a web developer redirect to 404 will take few minutes)

2. [Domain A (404)] -> [Domain B (404 page + same url) - for example: xixix.com/page/bla What do you think ?0 -
Looking at creating some auto-generated pages - duplicate content?
Hi Everyone! We just launched a new version of our research site and the main CTA on the page sends users to a subdomain that's blocked by robots.txt. The subdomain link is one of our PPC landing pages and they would be duplicate content for every model (cars). We're also looking at a new content stream of deals pages, on the main domain. The thought process was that we could rank these pages for things like "Volkswagen golf deals" and also use them as canonical URLs from the PPC pages so that Panda doesn't get mad at us for sending hundreds of links to a subdomain that's blocked. It's going to take us a lot of time to write the copy for the deals pages, so if we auto-generate it by pulling a paragraph of copy from the car review, and numerical stats about that model, will it be classes as duplicate and/or is there any downside to doing it? Review Page: http://www.carwow.co.uk/car-reviews/Ford/Fiesta Deals Page: http://www.carwow.co.uk/deals/Ford/Fiesta PPC Landing Page: http://quotes.carwow.co.uk/buy/Ford/Fiesta I can't help but feel that this may all be a bit overkill and perhaps it makes more sense to build 1 central deals page per model with unique content that we can also send the PPC traffic to, then life any block from the quotes. subdomain. But that will take time and we'd also like a quick solution. I'd also question if it's even an issue to link to a blocked subdomain, Google adds the quote URL into the index but can't crawl it, which I've been told is bad - but is it bad enough to do something about? Thanks, JP

Product page Canonicalization best practice
I'm getting duplicate content errors in GWT for product list pages that look like this: -www.example.com/category-page/product
Technical SEO | | IceIcebaby
-www.example.com/category-page/product/?p=2 The "p=2" example already has a rel=canonical in place, " Shouldn't the non-canonical pages be using the canonical attribute for the first page rather than the additional product pages? Thanks!0 -
Pages Linking to Sites that Return 404 Error
We have just a few 404 errors on our site. Is there any way to figure out which pages are linking to the pages that create 404 errors? I would rather fix the links than create new 301 redirects. Thanks!

Wordpress Archive pages
In the SEOMOZ site report a number of errors were found. One of which was no or duplicate meta desctions on certain blog pages. When I drilled down to find these i noticed thosepages are the wordpress autocreated archive pages. When I searched for these through the wordpress control panel through both pages and blogs they were nowhere to be found. Does anyone know how to find these pages or are they not something I need to worry about?

Have a client that migrated their site; went live with noindex/nofollow and for last two SEOMoz crawls only getting one page crawled. In contrast, G.A. is crawling all pages. Just wait?
Client site is 15 + pages. New site had noindex/nofollow removed prior to last two crawls.

Switching ecommerce CMS's - Best Way to write URL 301's and sub pages?
Hey guys, What a headache i've been going through the last few days trying to make sure my upcoming move is near-perfect. Right now all my urls are written like this /page-name (all lowercase, exact, no forward slash at end). In the new CMS they will be written like this: /Page-Name/ (with the forward slash at the end). When I generate an XML sitemap in the new ecomm CMS internally it lists the category pages with a forward slash at the end, just like they show up through out the CMS. This seems sloppy to me, but I have no control over it. Is this OK for SEO? I'm worried my PR 4, well built ecommerce website is going to lose value to small (but potentially large) errors like this. If this is indeed not good practice, is there a resource about not using the forward slash at the end of URLS in sitemaps i can present to the community at the platform? They are usually real quick to make fixes if something is not up to standards. Thanks in advance, -First Time Ecommerce Platform Transition Guy
