Google Maps - ranking our head office over smaller offices
-
Hi,
We have Google Maps listings for all of our offices but a small office often shows up instead of our head office.
Is there any way to get head office showing instead?
Thanks
-
Thanks, I had wondered if it was location based but it wasn't making much sense - the computers used to check were all much nearer the head office than the satellite office that showed up top - in fact the satellite office is a long way away. We used three different machines and each time we got the same result. The smaller office is in Leicester (UK) and the head office in in Christchurch which is where where 2 checks were done, and another was done in Blandford, all getting Leicester come up top.
Our head office address is the only one listed on Facebook etc so it's a bit odd.
I've just tried it again and got a more local office showing, but it's still not head office.
Thanks for the links to other posts and thanks for the suggestions:
- Verify all info is correct and the same business name is being used on major data providers such as Yellow Pages, Yelp, TripAdvisor, Yahoo Local, etc. And be sure they are linking to your website. Here is the full list:
https://moz.com/learn/local/local-search-data-us - **all the info on Google places is correct and the head office. Will see if there are other places we can list it though ** - Make sure your full address is mentioned on your website contact page. - this is already the case
- Get quality backlinks from related websites and include the city(s) name in the anchor text.- will try this
- Use a local phone number area code and keep it consistent - we use a central call centre for most places although the local Leicester office that was showing above head offce uses a local number so even more strange that is should show as it's miles away
- Possibly have your smaller offices identify themselves with a specific location in their name - will look into
- Get more positive Google reviews for your office - will look in to but Leicester has no reviews so bit odd
- Include location and business keywords in your Google Maps description - already doing
Thanks both

Hi There!
You might like to check out this earlier thread on the same topic: https://moz.com/community/q/google-places-multiple-company-listings-how-to-rank-the-hq-page-over-a-branch-location
As Nick points out, rankings are not static. What you see in the results while you are physically in one location will be different than what you see when you move to a different location. That's called the 'user as centroid' phenomenon, meaning that Google is customizing local results for you based on your physical location at the time of search.
Because of this, it's important to include in your troubleshooting a notation of where you are located when you are seeing any results.

Searching Google Maps directly is a little different than traditional SEO, mainly because the users location plays a role in the results that appear. If their location changes, listings adjust to the businesses closest to them.
However, there are some steps that can improve your specific listing for maximum exposure on Maps listings.
- Verify all info is correct and the same business name is being used on major data providers such as Yellow Pages, Yelp, TripAdvisor, Yahoo Local, etc. And be sure they are linking to your website. Here is the full list:

- Use a local phone number area code and keep it consistent
- Possibly have your smaller offices identify themselves with a specific location in their name
- Get more positive Google reviews for your office
- Include location and business keywords in your Google Maps description
I hope these suggestions help you top the rankings.

Rankings preferring English URL
We've recently had a redesign of our website and we have both a Dutch and an English version. However, in MOZ for both NL and BE-NL it seems to favor the English URLs. This never used to be the case and I'm wondering why it's happening and whether it could actually be hurting our SEO, as search engines would favor local languages for search queries.

We're merging 2 separate websites into 1 but need to ideally rank service pages for both locations
I have a dilemma, we're merging 2 websites, one an Australian branch and one a UK one. We've decided to have a UK page and a AUS page so agency.site/uk/ agency.site/aus/ but what is the best tactic for the service pages? ideally, we'd like a web-design service page to rank in Australia and the UK but not sure if this is actually possible, or whether to duplicate the pages and localise them i.e. /web-design-leeds/ and /web-design-melbourne/ What's everyone's thoughts on this? localised landing pages with some duplicate content or one master page with both locations mentioned? Thanks!

Google Beacons
We received Google Beacons for each of our physical locations, the info from Google is: It transmits a signal via BLE to smartphones within 11 meters It will provide information to visitors and offer opportunities to see products and add reviews It's connected to your Google Ads account somehow It is "on" as soon as it's removed form it's box It has to be activated via a provided code My question: Where does the data transmitted by the Beacon come from? How can I control that data? Is it pulled from our GMB account? THX for reading and responding, I'll add more to this as I learn more about Beacons. KJr PS: See ya @ MozCon 🙂

Can we use the same titles and meta descriptions for all of our office locations? We have 18 locations in total.
Hello, TTR Data Recovery has 18 different office locations and I am wondering if we can use the same title and meta description for all locations and just change the location name...For example: #1 Best Data Recovery Services in Atlanta, GA| TTRDATA TTR Data Recovery offers a comprehensive suite of data recovery services in Atlanta, GA including Hard Drive, SSD, Server and RAID/NAS. Get A Free Quote! #1 Best Data Recovery Services in Miami, FL | TTRDATA TTR Data Recovery offers a comprehensive suite of data recovery services in Miami, FL, including Hard Drive, SSD, Server and RAID/NAS. Get A Free Quote! Would this be already, or would it be better if we had a unique title and meta description for every location? We want to get the same message across and it would be difficult to change the wording 18 times. I look forward to hearing back from you guys. Thank you.

A few of these landing pages are actually ranking pretty decently would it be ok to rewrite them as long as you kept the keywords and the density some what equal?

Ranking http://www when its forwarded to https://www
Hello, I have a question about the best practices for assigning "https" and "http" versions. We have added https://www.mysite.com in Google WMT and was ranking. However I noticed with my other tools, that http://www.mysite.com version had better anchor text distribution and also had better Trust Flow were as the https://www.mysite.com version had no trust flow at all. Can I assign http://www.mysite.com in Google WMT and still have it do a 301 Redirect to https://www.mysite.com. This way I can capitalize on the better anchor text profile and trust flow, and still rank properly? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks
