Is it OK to put a Blog Post and a Page within the same folder on a Wordpress hosted website?
-
Our education company website (hosted on wordpress) has evolved into having content on key topics distributed across both blog posts and pages.
For example, "top-pharmaceutical-companies" lends itself to being published as a page. However other content "top-pharmaceutical-companies-usa-2016" lends itself to being published as a blog post as it's more temporal in nature.
Now we'd like to establish topical domain relevance for the root keyword "pharmaceutical companies" and build a folder www./ourcompany/pharmaceutical-companies/
But when we look through our blog content, we notice we have "Blog Posts" that would be an excellent fit for certain folders within our "Page" url structure.
So would it be OK to amend these blogs post urls addresses to place them within the folder structure of the pages.

I think if you try to do what you're suggesting you're going to end up with a headache for both yourself and your users. A simple and elegant solution to this would be to rewrite (or copy/paste) some of the blogs as pages, and set a canonical URL so Google knows which content it should attribute originality to.
If you have a sidebar, you could also utilize a widget that recommends related blog posts to users if you'd rather maintain the structure you have, but callout related content and provide navigation.

Hi Megan,
I'm afraid don't quite answer my question.

Hey there -
Definitely a super valid question. I would also question why you'd keep some of the content that is, in your words, "content on similar topics distributed across both posts and pages." If they're competing with each other for rankings, you should be looking to combine some of them. You may already be doing that, in which case good work!
To your direct question. I wouldn't recommend writing custom code to make the Posts work as Pages. It's actually pretty tough to make this work within WordPress, and if you want them all to have site.com/(category)/(url-slug)/ as their URL, you'd be best served to use either a Page or a Post, but not try to combine the two. This will also make future management of all the content a lot easier as you won't have content all over the place.
I hope this is helpful!

Hi,
I get the feeling you work with Wordpress. There is no need to change anything in my opinion. Pages and posts both rank ok depending on the content provided. With a good search tool and navigation in place your visitors can easily find the page or post they need. Also in Wordpress you can choose what way the posts URL is build up. You can find it here. This can help you optimise it from now on.I would not change url's from posts nor pages in the past.
Good luck!

Will it upset Google if I aggregate product page reviews up into a product category page?
We have reviews on our product pages and we are considering averaging those reviews out and putting them on specific category pages in order for the average product ratings to be displayed in search results. Each averaged category review would be only for the products within it's category, and all reviews are from users of the site, no 3rd party reviews. For example, averaging the reviews from all of our boxes products pages, and listing that average review on the boxes category page. My question is, will this be doing anything wrong in the eyes of Google, and if so how so? -Derick

Page Layout Updates and Mobile Pages with Ads
I have been trying to do some research on the Page Layout Algorithm and Top Heavy Ads and much of what I read does not mention about mobile pages as apposed to desktop. I am curious if the Page Layout updates can be effected by mobile pages as well and if there is any good articles on this subject. Also is this Algorithm been incorporated into its regular algorithm or do we still have to wait for refreshes to see the impact? Cesar

Why is my contact us page ranking higher than my home page?
Hello, It doesn't matter what keyword I put into Google (when I'm not signed in and have cleaned down my browsing history) the contact us page ranks higher than the home page. I'm not sure why this is, the home page has a higher page authority, more links and more social media shares, the website is an established one. When I have checked Google Analytics my home page gets more people landing on it than the contact us page. It looks like people are ignoring the contact us page and scrolling down until they find the home page. I'd appreciate any help or advice you might have. Thank you.

Can I add a blog to different pages of my site?
I would like to ad a blog to a few different pages of my site, is this possible? I would prefer it to not be a stand alone blog, because I am pretty sure it would begin to outrank my landing pages in search results. I built my site using dreamweaver, but I have seen a reference somewhere to a utility for adding a word press blog to an existing site? This site seems to be doing what I had in mind? http://www.drynclean.com/

SEO capability on web pages v blog posts
firstly, apologies if this is a daft question, I am very new to this! We are about to launch a new website (very exciting) and our CEO is mad about incorprating a "tag cloud" because it looks good! Our web designer therefore has to convert all our web pages to "posts" in order for the tag cloud to pick up the "tagged" words associated with the specific pages (soon to be posts). Question: With regards to SEO, will the change from "web page" to "post" have any positive or negative effects? Thanks in advance

I use premise for landing pages. I have some extra domain names that are fantastic in my industry. I'm wondering if I should use those domains for these landing pages?
