Page title optimisation - Does suffix keywords matters?
-
Hi Moz community,
We can see in many of the page titles; "brand & keyword" go after every topic like..... "best tiles for kitchen | vertigo tiles". Do Google count this suffix as any other word in page title or give low preference just because it has been repeated across every single page? What if the "keyword" is repeated with topic and brand name as well. I mean which one of the below 2 page titles gonna workout better in correlation with keyword and website authority ?
best tiles for kitchen | vertigo tiles
best tiles for kitchen | vertigo
Thanks

Hi Patrick,
Thanks for the answer. That's where we are confused. We been giving the suffix as "brand & primary keyword" like how most of the websites do. Example is "Page topic xxxx | vertigo tiles" where "vertigo" is brand and "tiles" is our primary keyword to rank for. While choosing the same suffix for all pages, "primary keyword" is at the end of every page title. I think how it will work if we bring "primary keyword" along with topic and give just "brand name" and suffix. Like.... "black colour tiles | vertigo". I wonder which suffix will make more impact at Google.
General public search with our "brand name" and only 10% search with our "brand name and primary keyword". So do we need to change the suffix to just "brand name"? Will it helps?

Hi there
Whatever the general public knows you by, use that as your brand. Reason being - it's brand repetition and more than likely what users will search you by if doing a branded search.
Whatever keyword you use, make sure that the keyword appears naturally and organically throughout your content. Do not stuff keywords just so you can rank for that keyword. Search engines (and users) pick up on this very easily, so any keywords or phrases you use, make sure they are relevant to the content you have on the page. Otherwise, you're doing more harm than good.
Here are two resources for title optimization and onpage keyword optimization. Both of these work in tandem, so make sure you're leveraging them properly!
Hope this helps! Good luck!

Hi,
I always use two keywords in my title tag (primary & secondary) with brand name and there is nothing I found in my case that title with 1 keyword ranking better then the having two keywords in title.
primary keyword and secondary keyword both ranking well in Google an I just want to remind you that there are several other ranking factors apart from title tag
Thanks

Hi Alick,
I can see Google giving importance to second example, that's where I started this question. I can even see many of the good ranking pages are not repeating their "keywords" at page title but making clear with the topic like the Moz page you referred says "What Is a Title Tag | Moz". As per Moz, we can give primary and secondary keywords with brand name at last. But I don't see many top ranking pages using two keywords, rather single keyword targeting are doing better. Please share your thoughts.
Thanks,

Hi,
I would go for first option. check first example here @ https://moz.com/learn/seo/title-tag
Thanks

Nuisance visitors to non active page. What's going on?
Hi Guys, for the past several months, I get high volume of searches on a non-existing page /h/9249823.html. These searches come from all over the world from different domains and have a zero session duration. They are automatically forwarded to my home page. The source re Google Analytics is 12-reasons-for-seo.com. The full referrer is 12.reasons-for-seo.com/seo2php. Any idea what is provoking this activity? Any chance it's screwing with my legitimate search results or rankings?

G.A. question - removing a specific page's data from total site's results?
I hope I can explain this clearly, hang in there! One of the clients of the law firm I work for does some SEO work for the firm and one thing he has been doing is googling a certain keyword over and over again to trick google's auto fill into using that keyword. When he runs his program he generates around 500 hits to one of our attorney's bio pages. This happens once or twice a week, and since I don't consider them real organic traffic it has been really messing up my GA reports. Is there a way to block that landing page from my overall reports? Or is there a better way to deal with the skewed data? Any help or advice is appreciated, I am still so new to SEO I feel like a lot of my questions are obvious, but please go easy on me!

Duplicate content for product pages
Say you have two separate pages, each featuring a different product. They have so many common features, that their content is virtually duplicated when you get to the bullets to break it all down. To avoid a penalty, is it advised to paraphrase? It seems to me it would benefit the user to see it all laid out the same, apples to apples. Thanks. I've considered combining the products on one page, but will be examining the data to see if there's a lost benefit to not having separate pages. Ditto for just not indexing the one that I suspect may not have much traction (requesting data to see).

301 redirect a set of pages to one landing page/URL?
I'm planning to redirect the following pages to one new URL/landing page: Old URLs: http://www.olddomain.com/folder/page/1 http://www.olddomain.com/folder/page/2 http://www.olddomain.com/folder/page/3 http://www.olddomain.com/folder/page/4 http://www.olddomain.com/folder/page/5 http://www.olddomain.com/folder/page/6 New URL: http://www.newdomain.com/new-folder/new-page Code in .htaccess that I will be using: RedirectMatch 301 /folder/page/(.*) http://www.newdomain.com/new-folder/new-page Let me know if this is correct. Thanks!

Whats up with google scrapping keywords metrics
I've done a bit of reading on google now "scrapping" the keywords metrics from the analytics. I am trying to understand why the hell they would do that? To force people to run multiple adwords campaign to setup different keywords scenario? It just doesn't make sense to me...If i am a blogger or i run an ecommerce site...and i get a lot of visit regarding a particular post through a keyword they clicked on organically. Why would Google wanna hide this from people? It's great Data for us to carry on writing relevant content that appeals to people and therefore serves the need of those same people? There is the idea of doing White Hat SEO and focus on getting strong links and great content etc... How do we know we have great content if we are not seeing what is appealing to people in terms of keywords and how they found us organically... Is google trying to squash SEO as a profession? What do you guys think?

Landing page for ppc
Is it okay to create a landing page with a different url to get additional traffic to my site with ppc? The purpose would not be for link building; I would only use it for direct marketing with ppc and people would click through to my main site via a no-follow link. Is there anything wrong with doing this?
