What is the best way to rank for variations of your business name?
-
Our business name is APVelocity. We are ranking when it is typed APVelocity, however we are finding many people are typing it AP Velocity. When it is typed with a space, we are not ranking. What is the best way to ensure we show up either way?

Hi Mandi,
I have another suggestion but it won't come free of cost but there are 99.99% chances that your conversion will go up.
Run an adwords search campaign for only branded terms and it won't cost you much but your bran visibility will increase and you will always come on top and last but not least you can show any offer/coupons at the top of search results.
If you need any help please let us know we will guide you.
Hope this helps.
Thanks

Hi Mandi, I wouldn't sacrifice branding for the sake of ranking. Meaning, I wouldn't start incorporating signals around "AP Velocity" if the business names is APVelocity.
Is the business fairly new? Just might be one of those things that needs time. If you're seeing a lot of velocity around "AP Velocity," those people could also be searching for the Velocity Automotive Performance business that's currently ranking #1.
With branded terms, if a user is looking for you, they are more willing to wade through the SERPs. Meaning, if you are searching for Moz, you know you want the SEO expert, and not something like MOZ Designs. So, you'll look through the results until you find what you know you're looking for. Does that make sense?
Thus, if people are searching "AP Velocity," and they intend to find your business, their behavior in the SERPs will be a sign to Google that they should associate that term with your business, and not that of another (or not).

Company name in Site Meta description?
Ok. So I know that you should have your company name in the site title, but is it all that important in the site description? The reason I ask is because I am competing with another company for the #1 position (I was number 1, now #2) that has an 8 character name and mine is 22 taking away from a great deal of real estate in my 150-160 character site description in which I could provide additional information describing my company. Should I remove my name in the site description enabling me to use more descriptive keywords and actionable text such as (Find, research, contact, professional, info) etc. Thanks,

Get the startpage rank high for one word
Hi, This has maybe been asked many times. I wonder for example how our website www.hardtours.se can receive higher ranking for the word "hardstyle". Our competitor has "hardstyle" in the webadress and it feels useless to compete with them since it feels that having the name in the www adress is to hard to compete with. Or am i wrong?

What is the best way to handle small business site architecture?
I do allot of work for small businesses with around 15-20 total pages. What is the best site architecture? For example if its a landscaping website, should there be a services category page and pages under that (domain.com/services/lawn-mowing.html) or should it be flatter (domain.com/lawn-mowing.html) They offer about 10 different services.

Google Ranking Dropped
Hi We launched a new website on the12th Feb 2012, it appeared on google page one for the search term "compare travel insurance" . Last week it changed ranking to page 49 of google ranking. my site is www.1234compare1234travel1234insurance1234ireland1234.com Take out the 1234 for my site address, some people have mentioned that it was honeymooned to page 1 due to being a new site with new content. Can anyone tell me if it looks as if I've done something wrong and been penalised by google? If not are there any SEO advice I could use to improve ranking? All comments and advice appreciated. Regards Paul

Apache Rewrite to remove page name extensions
If I use Apache Rewrite to remove my file extensions from my pages will Google view those pages as new? Do I have to also 301 redirect from the "page-name.htm" to "page-name"? I'd like to change my pages from html to php to make my life a little easier but I'm worried about losing link juice if I were to 301 on every page. Thanks -Brandon

Has anyone noticed a big delta between Google and Bing rankings? For example, we rank favorably in Google, but not so favorably in Bing. Are there different tactics I should use to rank better in Bing?
An example is in Google, we currently rank #1 & #2 for "yoga pants" for Athleta and Old Navy. In Bing, I'm on page 2. Any thoughts here?
