How specific do I have to be when adding keyword to the meta title which I am trying to rank for?
-
I am looking for some clarity on what exactly you need to spell out for google in the exact match and what google understands in terms of using keywords in your meta title which I am trying to rank for.
For example if my category page is for women's top, with both printed and solid color options, would it be ok to write- "Women's Tops: Printed & Solid Shirts & Tunics" and be able to rank for women's tops, women's printed tops, women's solid shirts etc. or would I have to be more specific and use women's as the keyword modifier before each term and write- "Women's Tops, Women's Printed & Solid Shirts, Women's Tunics"?

Thanks Hanna, just ensure it's Women's and not Women as it Dan's reply and remember the use of Ladies' as well,
Kind Regards
Nigel

Thank you for your responses. I will try to use the word women's once in the title and make sure to use other variations in the description on the page and see how we rank.

Hi SEOhanna
Totally. You do not need to mention Women's three times, just the once and that would be OK to rank for the derivatives as you say.
If it was me I would include the other terms like the words Ladies, printed tops, women's solid shirts etc (Use MOZ Keyword explorer to find contextually similar keywords, materials etc), spread through 3-400 words of descriptive text on the category page.
A short description at the top reinforcing the main category and then a chunkier piece below the fold. If you place it all at the top then the customer would have to scroll through it to find product.
I hope that helps
Regards Nigel

Agree with Dan from above. For a meta title, the "Women's Tops: Printed & Solid Shirts & Tunics" is a better, more natural sounding title. Within the content of the page though, you can naturally work in "womens tunics" etc. and use the Moz Keyword Explorer to find some LSI keywords, so you are not repeating the same keywords in the exact same order several times.
Keep in mind, while the meta title of the page is a big contributor to ranking for a search term, it is only 1 factor of many.

Yes, I understand I shouldn't stuff keywords like that. I was just trying to illustrate my question. My question really is, is if possible to rank for women's print shirts or women's print tops if I only use the term women's in the beginning of the title together with the word tops?

You'd be fine with one mention of Women, otherwise you risk keyword stuff in your page title.
Plus even if it ranks, it'll look terrible in search results.

Generating Dynamic Meta Titles for SEO - Advice?
Hi, I'm working with a new client that works with a lot of suppliers and they want to have their titles built in a specific way. If I generate a template (so to speak) will generating dynamic meta titles have a negative effect on their SEO and is this even possible? If so, what would be the best way to handle this? There is approximately 100 suppliers. Any feedback/advice is appreciated!

Is adding video to my homepage a ranking signal
Just had a lengthy chat with an SEO guy and one of the points bought up was that video on the homepage is a definite signal these days and the bots read the metas better than ever. I'm not sure about this, I do think that videos are a thing that improves the user experience but to rank? If it was to rank would I embed a YouTube video as its owned by Google, Vimeo for the quality or self-host but cause me to have a heavy page. I'm a bit lost here and would appreciate some guidance.

Keyword density or No. of Time keyword used
Now, I know that there is no set figure to be used here, whichever metric you are using and it will depend on the article and what is natural. However, lets suppose for a minute that we are taking a keyword in isolation, and I have a 2000 word article using the keyword 17 times and rank no. 3 in Google SERPS. The no. 1 slot uses the keyword 8 times but only has a 800 word article and only a B grade on the onpage ranker. Of course, there are off page factors as well, but just wondering what your thoughts are on whether you look at density or total keyword usage. It is easy to just write without think about keyword density or usage, but occasionally you end up using the keyword about 50 times, and it is then I have to actually think about it. Other articles I barely use the keyword because the article just writes itself and it works out fine, but these are generally shorter. With longer articles on my best converting pages, I can't help but think about it more and it ends up a little hit and miss.

Title Tag
Is there any value in adding semantically similar words in the title tag? For instance, I have an alcohol rehab website www.alcohol-rehab.ltd.uk, I offer local search pages too. Would the title tag "Alcohol Rehab Bedfordshire | Alcoholic Rehabilitation Clinics Beds" Be more valuable than "Alcohol Rehab Clinics Bedfordshire | www.alcohol-rehab.ltd.uk" And is is worth while having the url in each title tag? Also is it worth while (seo wise) writing a description tag for each page, other than for a call to action that is?

If I want to rank well on one keyword would it be better to optimize multiple pages on the website for the keyword or should I only optimize one page for that keyword?

On-Page SEO Priorities: Title's, Anchor Text or Meta data?
**Any suggestions for prioritized on-page SEO work? Relative weights of importance? ** **What is most important from highest to lowest? ** MetaTag Descriptions? Titles? Anchor Text? Alt Text - for images? Anything else? We might not be able to do everything at once like I desire ......but I do feel we should at least get the ball moving in the right direction. I am looking for ideas or suggestions on what to prioritize for a little bit of on-page SEO work on our website. I personally feel that SEO is pretty important but I am a novice. I have been reading this site the past week and want to convince my webpage guy that on-page SEO is important and that we should at least do a few things and gradually get the work done. Rightfully so our #1 priority is to redesign our landing pages (they are bad) . I also think we should do a little On-Page work concurently. (Lack of on-page SEO is also preventiing me from successfully submitting and being accepted by Dmoz, Yahoo, BOW etc) He is mainly a back engine guy and does a very good job with that. If I were to TELL him to do a few prioritized on-page SEO things what would you suggest? He did do something on the home page at my suggestion but that is all to this point. We have over 400 pages indexed with very little on-page SEO on them. Thank you, UtahTiger
