301 redirect single page
-
I have a popular page on one domain and I did 301 redirect of it to another domain. Just one single page. Both the sites are very related to each other. Will the backlinks get transferred? Its been more than a week but nothing shows up in webmaster tools.

Hey there,
Sorry for the late reply. For some reason, I don't receive email updates, even if it's ticked.
Anyway, you're right that search engines will pass the link juice to the new domain. Regarding the old domains, Google Search Console will show you all the link as long as the domains are still being set up there. Therefore, I'd recommend to keep all the domains in GSC for the future.
Regarding the strategy, the best way would be the 1:1 permanent redirects 301. This means that you redirect every unique page from the old domain to another unique page from the new domain. You can create Google Spreadsheet where the first column would represent the old URLs and the second column the new URLs. In this case, you have higher chance not to miss anything.
Hope this is the answer you're looking for. Otherwise, feel free to shoot some other questions.
Cheers, Martin

Thanks for the response Martin. From what I understand, webmaster tools will not show those links still pointing to the old domain but the search engines will pass the link juice to the new domain. What's the best strategy to get back links on those sites (in hundreds) to point to a new domain?

Hey there,
Just to make the terminology clearer, you can transfer the link juice (well, majority of it), not the back links. The back links stay the same pointing on the previous domain. However, I'd recommend to change the links to the new domain from the previous pages so, basically, no redirection would be needed in terms of driving the traffic.
Hope it helps a bit. Cheers, Martin

Do affiliate links to Amazon product pages boost those pages in the SERPs?
From casual observation, I believe that affiliate links to Amazon product pages, move those Amazon pages up in the SERPs. Does anyone else have an opinion on this? Philosophically, I think that affiliate links should not be counted in the rankings, even if they have not been nofollowed. I think that Google and other search engines should be filtering these links because they are compensated. Thanks for your thoughts.

Self-cannibalizing issue with category page
I am doing well with a category page and I just ran a report card and am having issues with self-cannibalizing. I have a signature at the bottom of each blog post that links to this category page because it is my MAIN category. So I changed the anchor text so it didn't have the exact same keyword but underneath each post, it shows all the categories that post belongs to. Usually it is at least 2. So should I change the name of the category page and then have the SEO title be for the keyword I am ranking well with? Or should I just self-cannibalize? Or should I not have all the categories show underneath each post? I was thinking that would help lower my bounce rate since it would lead them to another page that interests them. Edit: To be clear, all these links are linking to that very category page. So linking back to itself. They are not linking to a different page with the target keyword. Also I am worried about reducing internal linking power if the anchor text is not the keyword I am trying to rank with? Help appreciated!

More "new" root domains or more pages on older domains?
I have been slowly building links via personal/professional networking, press from art shows, blogging, and such. I work with several non related domains & local blogs & press outlets, it is pretty easy for me to add a few new pages of content along with text links. Or should I just concentrate on getting links from totally "new" domains that have never linked to me before?

Homepage vs specific page Backlink
Hello, I have a local business and have been working on getting backlinks for highly relevant keywords. I have keyword optimized pages (keyword in URL, title, H1, etc) but I have been sending backlinks to the homepage, as these keywords represent the core of what we offer. See example below: car repair car repair london auto repair auto repair london I have been sending backlinks (with the correct anchor text of course) to the homepage, am I better off sending them to the specific pages? One more thing: the SEOMOZ report talks about cannibalisation of keywords, where for example the page optimised for "car repair" links to "Car repair london". I have links to the optimised pages in a footer at the bottom of every single page on the website, is this bad practice? (considering SEOMOZ talks about cannibalisation? Should I do something else instead (or eliminate the footer links altogether?) I would appreciate your expert advice.

Ranking Inner Pages or the Main Page?
Hello Guys, I am relatively new to the SEO world. So I am just wondering what would be more helpful. Getting the homepage ranked for a list of targeted keywords or creating a separate page for each keyword and then getting those pages ranked? Look forward to hear back, Thanks! Naimath

Will redirecting 250 linking domains to a new website from an old website freak Google out?
Prior to my accepting a project, the client decided to change the name of their company and purchased a new domain name to match. They hired a designer to build their new company site which has now been up and running for a little under 12 months. Up to this point they have done a good job of slowly redirecting small handfuls of linking domains from the old site to the new. They want to make one last push and point the remaining 250 linking domains from their old site to their new site. Will redirecting 250 linking domains to a new website from an old website freak Google out? If so, how many domains should be redirected at one time? My main concern is not wanting to upset Google and see the floor fall out on current keyword rankings, domain authority and page rank, etc.
