Google cuts meta title after 60 characters and meta description after 130 characters. Is this new?
-
Hey community,
We noticed, that our meta's are cutted after much lesser characters then it used to. Mainly after 130-135.
Did i miss something? Should we basically consider to write meta's constantly with lesser then 130 characters instead of the advised 160 characters?
Cheers,
Boris

Hey Boris,
The length for meta data remains still the same. However, there can be a reason why your data have been truncated.
Google has a freedom to choose whatever text it wants based on the user's query. That means that if Google thinks there's is a better text for, let's say, meta description, than this text would be chosen from your page content.
Also, Google can compose the description from more pieces of the content so there can be those three dots "..." not only at the end but also in the middle of the description. That doesn't need to mean that it has been truncated but that there's basically no more relevant content on the page which would better match the user's query / intent.
Hope it makes sense. Ready for other questions. Cheers, Martin

Duplicate 'meta title' issue (AMP & NON-AMP Pages)
how to fix duplicate meta title issue in amp and non-amp pages? example.com
On-Page Optimization | | 21centuryweb
example.com/amp We have set the 'meta title' in desktop version & we don't want to change the title for AMP page as we have more than 10K pages on the website. ----As per SEMRUSH Tool---- ABOUT THIS ISSUE It is a bad idea to duplicate your title tag content in your first-level header. If your page’s <title>and <h1> tags match, the latter may appear over-optimized to search engines. Also, using the same content in titles and headers means a lost opportunity to incorporate other relevant keywords for your page.</p> <p><strong>HOW TO FIX IT</strong></p> <p>Try to create different content for your <title> and <h1> tags.<br /><br />this is what they are recommending, for the above issue we have asked our team to create unique meta and post title for desktop version but what about AMP page?<br /><br />Please help!</p></title>0 -
Titling and H1 Tag Question
What to do if you have hundreds of thousands of a particular product. Comic Books for example. Is it ok to have the words Comic Book in the title and H1 tag as long as it is qualified? For example, if I have the following as both the Title tag and the H1 tag. Comic Book - Spider Man Versus Wolverine Comic Book - Silver Surfer Goes Home to Visit Mom. Comic Book - Superman Gets a New Kitten Comic Book - Wonder Woman is More Wonderful Than You Know As of now, I have been doing it this way, but only in the title tag. However, Google has been using my H1 tag as my title, so in the search results, I am only getting: "Superman Gets a New Kitten" And I am afraid that that is leaving out important info for searchers, especially qualifying that the product is a Comic Book and if someone is searching for a Comic Book, I need that to return. But I don't want any 'more' trouble from the Panda. Again, this will be hundreds of thousands of products. Thanks for your help! Craig

For Service Sites, having a phone number in meta description ALWAYS a good idea?
If you have a site that offers a same day service, e.g. plumbing, electrical, computer support: do you think it would always be a good idea to stick the phone # in the meta description?
