My ranking spiked then died in the butt? why? Please help!
-
Hi guys,
I have been persevering with this ranking for some time now and thought you might be able to help. Or direct me to where I can get help. I am learning a lot through SEOmoz but I am still very green.
Basically on the 20th of the 12th we jumped up to a 2nd place listing and then dropped back down on the 17th of the 1st 2011.
The site is http://mlb.broomeaccommodation.com.au and the search term is 'Broome Accommodation' as you can see it is a considerable drop and really affecting our bookings and sales figures.
I have attached a link to a screen capture of the problem - http://exitforward.com/kimberleyaccomm/seomoz.png
Interested to hear your thoughts and get some help on this frustrating matter
Kind regards
Bodie Czeladka

Thanks Gary, thanks for that i will have a look into the serps and perhaps try to match them up to a similiar style to that of http://broomeaccommodation.com.au as currently this site has the highest ranking our of all sites in our group, which i think can be attributed to this particular keyword ranking.
i just purchased Broomewa.com which is ranked 3rd for the Kewyword 'Broome' so hopefully if i link that to the site it might help with the ranking.
I could ask you guys a million differen questions right now but i wont keep you.
Really appreciate the help and feedback
cheers
Bodie

I agree with the others, this is mostly likely acused by a temporary change int he way Google si viewing your site. Possibly by a link apeparing/disappearing or possibly from an algorithm change. I ntoice this on my sites all of the time.
It is, of course, also possible that the other sites reacted to your ranking increase, and started to do more SEO and now rank above you because of that - but this is highly unlikely in my experience.
The best next steps is to keep building your link profile. Ensure you get good quality links and Google will recognise this and start to attribute more rank.
One point that is worth mentioning, is do you think that the site you've sent should rank at #2? Taking a look at the SERPs that are more relevant pages to rank at #2 then the sub domain in question. The top leveld omain of your site is in fact #1. Maybe you need to increase the on page relevenecy of your sub domain to the keywords you're ranking for?
-
Sounds like a little bit of a 'Google dance' going on, and this is a lot more common than you might realise.
As Nemek has already said, there could be different factors for this, but it is not unheard of to rank more highly for a phrase quite quickly then drop again - it's all part of Google's great game.
Don't worry, it will sort itself out in time.
Regards,
Andy

Hi Bodie,
a spike like that can happen due to either a temporary change in Google's algorithm that happens to favour your website, or (more likely) a temporary change in the signals Google is using to rank your site.
The direct cause could be i.e. a good link that your website got in early December and which then disappeared sometime after. Google would reward you with a higher ranking, because of the link, but when it noticed the link disappeared, your rankings returned to previous levels.
The remedy - keep increasing the authority of your website by acquiring more links.

Rankings drop after https migration [Need urgent help]
hey hi guys, i have lost all my organic traffic and in need of urgent help. Plz i need all your SEO expertise. My website is: makemoneyadultcontent.com (before judging me, let me tell you that i have been in adult industry for almost 7 years now and hence this blog was a way to pass my knowledge to everyone who is looking for it) Recently i saw that moving to HTTPS will benefit my site. I did not knew much about technical details of moving to https. My hosting was on siteground, and they have a button which you can press and your website will then be served through https. So i did that. Nothing else was done. this was done on 13th or 14th of june For the next few weeks here is my analytics (image attached) : As you can see the traffic fluctuated and finally i lost everything on 29th june. When i researched more, i found out that you need to follow many steps in order to move to HTTPS. So i followed this guide and completed all the steps: https://www.keycdn.com/blog/http-to-https/ (also checked many other guides and tried to complete all the steps mentioned) Everyone said that the rankings will recover in one week, but now it has been more than 17 days and still the rankings have not improved. My articles are indexed as i can see it using site:makemoneyadultcontent.com but none of them are ranking for the keywords that i was ranking earlier. i have submitted the sitemap in google webmaster and around 166 (out of 218) pages are indexed. Here are few more images to help my case: plz plz help me what i can do to get my website traffic back. i have spent a lot of time and effort in building this site, cant see it die a slow death like this one. 8Wa8c [http ahref](http ahref) D42xw sAd9E

Ranking Above sub-domains
So I work for a company that has a very successful affiliate that operates under a third level domain name such as "region.company.com". Their SEO practices are very good and they rank highly in keyword searches. However "company.com" does not even though it is not a subdomain. Even after optimizing the company.com's pages etc, the regional sub domain ranks much higher for keywords and the main company fails to rank at all. Is Google discounting the main company's page? Is it a matter of trust or time? or is it something else? How can I get Google to prioritize the main company website rather than a lower level domain affiliate?

Help! Website Page Structure.
Hi there, I have a cupcake website; www.cupcakesdelivered.com.au To date, we have sold only regular cupcakes. Moving forward, we are about to start selling lots of different sorts of cupcakes and want to categorise them - i.e.; sport cupcakes, corporate cupcakes, movie-themed cupcakes etc. I am looking for a recommendation on how best to structure this in terms of pages / domains / subdomains etc, so as to best support SEO. Your help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you, Laura.

Loss of rankings due to hack. No manual penalty. Please advise.
I have a client who's site was hacked. The hack added a fake directory to the site, and generated thousands of links to a page that no longer exists. We fixed the hack and the site is fully protected. We disavowed all the malicious/fake links, but the rankings fell off a cliff (they lost top 50 Google rankings for most of their targeted terms). There is no manual penalty set, but it has been 6 weeks and their rankings have not returned. In webmaster tools, their priority #1 "Not found" page is the fake page that no longer exists. Is there anything else we can do? We are out of answers and the rankings haven't even come back at all. Any advise would be helpful. Thanks!

Google is squashing my rankings, insight please?
Last year with penguin, our rankings took a hit. We have worked hard, tirelessly, to recover. Last june we had no social media. We had an old website. We completely updated our website to responsive design, over 500k pages. We post daily fresh content, we expanded into social media. We now have 100k followers on Facebook. We are seeing thousands of Google + in the last few months, and not by hiring a single SEO consultant, and we use no ad-words or any paid advertising (except for adsense, limited on our site). We got thousands of Google +1's simply by sharing content in different circles and they liked us the old fashioned way. And yet our rankings have actually decreased. Just Saturday night, suddenly rankings that were on page 2 of Google dropped to page 5. Rankings on page 5 dropped to page 13, over night. Mind you, last year (prior to the penguin update), those page 2 and page 5 rankings were in the top 3 spots on page one. So its been quite a fall. We are doing something wrong, and I don't know what it is. The overnight rankings drop did not correspond with anything we did whatsoever. They just literally dropped abruptly. here is our site: (redacted for privacy, thanks for answering my question!) here is a sample of a fallen ranking. Friday, for example, we ranked on page one of google in this search:(redacted)

and now we are on page 3. I am open to ideas, suggestions. I want to raise our D/A and have worked hard over the last year to do so, but it doesn't seem to be working too well. Do i have bad inbound links? Is our site not a quality enough user experience? Outside advice is well received. Thank you to anyone who can lend their insight. 🙂0 -
Rank on specific Google
Hi folks, a website is hosted with a TLD like .com in the USA. The content etc. is obviously all english but now we want to focus on a specific Google like .co.uk What must be necessarily be done to rank better? Is it enough just to buy a .co.uk domain and set the nameserver up or do we need to get a british hosting? Thanks in advance. Mike
