Moz is flagging my callto: links as 404s. I "fixed" with tel: & nofollow and lost 2 DA. Help?
-
I changed the callto: links to tel: links in the footer and nofollowed them and my domain authority dropped 2. I'm assuming this is because we lost 2.8K "external links" Advice on how to remove 404s for Phone#'s without affecting DA? Will just using the tel: format stop Moz from crawling them as 404's? It was adding links to the 404 list that look like this: www.ocp.org/missals/callto:########### I assumed it was because to the crawlers the links looked like relative links this is what our links look like now:
<a <span="" class="html-tag">href</a><a <span="" class="html-tag">="</a>tel:###########" rel="nofollow" title="Call us">###########
Old footer links:
<a <span="" class="html-tag">href</a><a <span="" class="html-tag">="</a>callto:###########" title="Call us">###########

I think I found my own answer,
I switched the links to the tel: format and wrapped them in Schema.org markup, and that seems to be working, When I re-crawled the 404's went down and I'm not seeing them anymore. Still waiting on October 25th data dump to see if my DA goes back up.
I'm not sure which one resolved the issue though.

It's not that the data is false, just that it's outdated. The last time our crawler crawled your site it found those callto links were returning a 404, but if they're no longer doing so, you don't need to worry about them. That's why I suggested a robots.txt disallow for those pages — if you know those pages are fine and you're not worried about them, you can just tell our tools to skip crawling those pages entirely so we don't report those issues anymore.
The rest of the data in the report should be as accurate as possible, given that the freshest data in our index is about 60 days old or more.

So, the information I'm getting that those links are being crawled as 404s is false? Why doesn't MOZ ignore callto links so they don't populate our reports with bad data if they aren't actually being read as 404s? What other data in my reports is false? You can see how this solution is troubling, right?

Hey there! Tawny from Moz's Help team here.
I think the easiest way to resolve issues from those Call links would be to block our user-agent, dotbot (or Rogerbot for Moz Pro Campaigns) from accessing those URL paths. You could set up a Disallow directive for dotbot in your robots.txt file for the site. It would look something like this:
User-agent: dotbot
Disallow: /calltoThat should prevent us from crawling those telephone number pages, and we'll stop surfacing those pages as 404ing pages.
I hope that helps! If you still have questions, feel free to shoot us a note over at help@moz.com and we'll do our best to sort everything out with you.

Moz Pricing Needs Update
Hi I am coming from Ahrefs and Moz plans need serious update about the limits especially rank tracking. Ahrefs is providing more keywords $0.08/keyword (5000 keywords for the advanced plan) and update interval of 3 days. Moz large plan is $0.13/keyword with intervals of 1 week. Can this be looked into? Hopefully Moz can improve the limits for keywords ranking/tracking. In 2020 where many rank tracking tools provide daily update, 1 week is a bit ridiculously long. Hopefully Moz can make some improvement in this area,

Can Moz add an alert to email us when a competitor's site gets a new backlink?
This would be a very useful feature, and other sites are doing this, including Ahrefs.

MOZ Site Crawl - Ignore functionality question
Quick question about the ignore feature found in the MOZ Site Crawl. We've made some changes to pages containing errors found by the MOZ Site Crawl. These changes should have resolved issues but we're not sure about the "Ignore" feature and do not want to use it without first understanding what will happen when using it. Will it clear the item from the current list until the next Site Crawl takes place. If Roger finds the issue again, it will relist the error? Will it clear the item from the list permanently, regardless if it has not been properly corrected?

Does seo moz toolbar work in safari? Can I avoid using Chrome or firefox?
I am using a Mac and use Safari for web. I am not very familiar with Google Chrome or Firefox. I started my trial with SEOMoz Pro and want to use it (loved it) but do not want to adapt myself to Google Chrome or Firefox - thus my hesitation. What limitations do I have with SEOMoz Pro in safari - e.g. Moz add-on in the toolbar? What would I be missing if I continue using Safari? I would much appreciate an honest and complete answer so that I can decide whether to use Google Chrome of Firefox. Thank you

| np - /google-structured-data-update/ | In my "New Rankings & Insights | Hill Web Creations" report, while "Google structured data update" moved up significantly, at the same time, "np - /google-structured-data-update/" moved down significantly. Any insights that would offer a deeper understanding of the discrepancy and how to pull both up? If this corresponds with Google Analytics, the "np" Acquisitions > Campaigns > Organic Keywords > "Organic Search Traffic" Report, how is Moz rendering is New Rankings & Insights?0 -
My Q&A links to Q&A Forum
Hi, This is a minor thing, but I just wanted to ask/let the Moz folks know. I just noticed the "My Q&A" link in the profile header (see attached screenshot). When you click the link "My Q&A", it links to the Questions in the Q&A Forum instead of the My Q&A page. Is there a specific reason for this? JPbhTwB.png
