Most valuable things that clients can do for us SEO-wise?
-
Hi One and All!
We're launching a new site which provides listings for businesses, and being that it's very early in the process and we're building up our presence we're offering our services for free for now.
In return though we would like to request that our clients exchange the free service we're providing for things which will help our SEO to develop faster.
I've thought of things like following/liking social accounts, maybe even backlinking to us in a blog post if they have a blog, but does anyone have any other ideas about what other beneficial things they can do for us, and which things are most beneficial?
Thanks for Advice!

Hi joelmd,
Yeah that changes the situation and you surely add value. This needs a very custom solution though, besides the things you already mentioned one ideia could be a series of articles you could publish on your website where you list the top 10 businesses in category xxx in a certain geographical area. you could base this list also on the completeness of their listings and offer the ones that appear on the page a badge for being in the top 10 and ask them to insert it in their website (people and businesses like being part of a top 10) and the badge could have a link to the said article on your website.
Just one of many ideias you could think of.
regards

Hi Ramon,
Thanks for your advice, taken on board. If you have any specific advice regarding valuable SEO actions our clients could take that would be very helpful.

Hi jmico,
You ask what they can do for you, but maybe a better question to start would be what can you do for them.
Business directories are obviously nothing new, and besides them having a bad rep in SEO, why would they need to list with you. What are you offering that is so unique businesses will want to sign up. If you find something truly valuable and unique you can think of ways to get involvement from them. And they will probably be willing to reciprocate the value.
Your whole strategy for SEO could than be based on these benefits and it will be easier to find out what will make sense; followings on social accounts, blog mentions, testemonials, etc....
Just offering a business listing will not get people to do anything in my opinion.
regards

Facebook Name Change and Effect on SEO
Hey Mozzers! Trying this one again as my timing was probably pretty bad with Easter. Working with a company who has about 20K followers on Facebook and about 500 backlinks to their current facebook page. They want to change the name of the page to better reflect the business. I need to advise on this but I'm not sure of and how it will effect them. Any one had any experience in this area?

Main Site Social Media SEO impact on different product specific site
Hi, Few months ago I have created a minisite for a particular product category for the online store Giftcampaign.es with a different domain name. The idea was to focus this minisite on selling personalized usb memories and to have a different design, functionality and content that the main one (the site is http://www.usbpersonalizado.es). What I have done here is to link on my site the Social Markers of Facebook and LinkedIn of the parent site GiftCampaign.es, as we are not planning to open and maintain an account for those social networks, and we are already maintaining the ones for the parent site. I would like to know if the SEO Positioning of my minisite can benefit from the links of the Social Networks of the parent site or whether it makes not really an impact in SEO positioning unless I create and maintain new social network accounts for the different minisites that I create with different domain names. I look forward for your response. Best regards, Oriol .

How can i make our social network site rank higher?
Our site is currently not in the first 3 pages of Google. it is a social networking site that requires users to login/ register. Much of the content is therefore user generated and is as diverse as the users themselves. The problem is that SEOmoz crawler is not even picking up the keywords i inserted into the site. Does this mean that Google is not even picking them up as well? Our site is www.yookos.com

Is there a way to set up a business Facebook page without linking it to a client's personal page or having to use our own employee's personal page?
Our clients want us to manage their FB pages. I need to know how we can do this without having to enter through the FB page of whomever set up the business account. I'm aware of the ability of the person who set up the Business page to allow admin access, but that too requires an our employee to give his or her personal FB info for this access. In the same vein, a former employee set up a client's FB page using his own personal account and now when we enter the client's business page, we do not have access to the search window and we don't have the ability to go to other pages to "like" other pages - the button doesn't even appear if we are signed in and search a FB page through an engine. We do have the ability to see Admin settings and metrics but we don't have the news feed, and we have other limited access/abilities. I would like to have a central access so neither client or our employee has to offer personal FB log in information. Thank you, Julie

What can Google tell from a video?
I notice that Youtube apparently does kind of an automatic transcription. What can Google tell about a video? Is it comparing text from a voice recognition transcript? Can it take compare the waveform of a video signal and see how different a video is from another video? I'm putting together a variety of videos that are similar for different pages and wondering how much do I have to change for each video. I remember one time I attempted to launch a video that was an exact copy but with a different file name, title and tags and Youtube said, "hey, that's the same video!" Thanks!
