Stuck in 3rd place ... what else could I do?
-
Been doing SEO for one of my companies store fronts in Miami ranking for Miami Web Design but I've been ranking for the 3rd spot on the 1st page for over a year now and I've only been ranked first for a short period time (like a good month and a half).
Any suggestions or tips to help increase our chances of taking 2nd or 1st spot. I may be missing something that I'm not doing.

You could still:
For Page Speed
Cache Static Content
Serve Content (Images etc..) from CDN
Other Factors:
Place Breadcrumbs on Site
Set up a Facebook "Fan" page and get some social signals pointing towards the site.
You have 7 links in the footer pointing to another page, all with different keywords, you should remove them or at least just have one link there and if you place breadcrumbs on the website, the "Web Design" page will be linking back to the homepage
Also, as Dan said, build some more links. Hope this helps

Have you analyzed the ranking factors for the 2 pages that are outranking you? What does your domain equity look like vs those sites? Link profiles?
The easy answer is to build more links from sites that have great domain equity and that are of high relevance to you subject matter. Web design/development KWs are typically highly competitive even in a local market. Do you have some internal linking opportunities to look at? Do you have any links coming in with the term in the anchor text?

Referring subdirectory pages from 3rd hierarchy level pages. Will this hurts?
Hi all, We have product feature pages at 3rd tier like website.com/product/features. We have the help guides for each of these features on a different subdirectory like website.com/help/guides. We are linking these help guides from every page of features. So, will it hurts us anywhere just because we are encouraging 4th tier pages in website, moreover they are from different sub-directory. Thanks

Is placing an H1 tag below a slideshow a bad practice?
Hello All, It is to my understanding that it is a best practice to have a single H1 headline that corresponds to your title tag at the top of your page, above your content for the best On-Site Optimization. We are developing a site that uses a big slideshow with text on each slide, and are concerned that placing the H1 Headline below this will be a bad practice. Would a better option be to have the slide show text on the image and place no alt tags on the slides, so that the crawlers accessing the page overlook this and see the H1 below the slider first? We need to maintain the slider for design purposes, but would like the site to optimized. A similar example to what the slider will look like is as follows: http://www.boviskyle.com/ However, we look to have optimized, "10x" content below the slider with a solid H1 headline as well. Thank You!

3rd party commenting systems vs native?
I'm curious what you all think about using a 3rd party commenting system (like Disqus) vs the native wordpress commenting system? I've read so many reviews online it makes my head spin, so I wanted to see if any of you have any experience, or perhaps some trusted case studies. I was using the native comment system for a while, and then tried out Disqus; which seems to be good, but I'm not sure if people know how to easily get notified of new comments. With the native system there was a check box that said "subscribe," plus I used a plugin to redirect a first time commenter to a welcome page, as well as sent an email to them. I feel like Disqus makes it harder for people to get notified on new comments. However, I like giving people the ability to log in via different 3rd party channels (facebook/twitter/disqus, etc.) I know there are some 3rd party tools that allow you to do this on the native comment system as well. Any way, I'm just curious if anyone had any experience. Also I'm assuming the audience makes a big difference. My target readership is mommy's and parents, and not necessarily a 'tech" one; so I want to make the ability to comment very simple and easy for them. That's key. I'm sort of leaning on moving back over to the Wordpress comment system.

I need to buy a website template - anyone knows a good place to buy it? where you should buy one template?
I used the www.templatemonster.com or http://themeforest.net/, but is difficult to find a template with a focus on SEO. Also with the necessity to include text in the beginning of the website, is difficulty to found something really good.

Where is the best place to put reciprocal links on our website?
Where should reciprocal links be placed on our website? Should we create a "Resources" page? Should the page be "hidden" from the public? I know there is a right answer out there! Thank you for your help! Jay

Stuck with domain: www.kumficars.co.uk
Hi community, I was hoping you could help me. I have a website which I'm running for a client, www.kumficars.co.uk, and it's not featuring at all on google for the primary keyword: Taxi Knutsford I have absolutely no idea why. I've produced a campaign report and am acting on it now, but even that didn't pull much up other than a missing meta description tag, which I'm updating now. Other than that, I can't see any reason why the website shouldn't rank - the competition isn't even difficult! Can anyone shed some light please?

Hiding Links Under A Tab As Good As Anything Else And More Attractive?
I'm working with a site that finds standard linking to spread authority to interior pages ugly. Here's what they don't like: footers tag clouds sidebar lists of links text heavy paragraphs with links a gallery of images with alt text/links So, I'm looking for other ways to link from their homepage to these less prominent pages inside the site. Here are my two questions: 1. Would something like this work, with the links under the "Specs" tab (p.s., this is just a random example and not my client): http://www.goincase.com/products/detail/CL57925/ 2. Any other ideas for spreading the authority via links from their homepage and other pages on the site to less powerful pages? Thanks! Best...Mike
