What's wrong with this sitemap?

I'm stumped: https://reelgood.com/sitemap.xml

Have you seen any further improvement on the indexing front, Cat?

Hi Cath,
If you've uploaded recently to Search Console those sitemap, give it a little more time. It usually takes many weeks in order to index a big site like this.
You might try by manyally request to index an URL and its links. This can be done in the option: Fetch as Google, then ask to index and follow its links. Also, There could be some other issue in your URL structure and/or internal linking. Tried to crawl your site with Screaming Frog, starting from the root domain and from a random url and couldn't get more than roughly 1300 HTML pages.
I know that having a sitemap is a way to ensure that every URL is seen by google but if you dont have a good internal linking it makes it more difficult for GoogleBot.My advise, again, be patient and wait a little longer. In my experience it could take over 8 weeks to index a site that size.
Hope it helped.
Best luck.

Thanks, Paul, much appreciated. Yes, this all makes sense, but I'm still stumped as to why our site isn't being indexed. I thought I had narrowed it down to the sitemap as the cause, but seems that's not right.
In Google Search Console, it shows 121,000 URLs submitted but only 20,000 URLs indexed.

There's nothing wrong with it, Cat, but it's actually what's called a sitemap index. Its job is to contain a list of the specific sitemaps for different sections of the website. The search engines crawl that index, which then points them to where each of the individual sitemaps is located, which they then crawl from there.
This is actually a preferred method for handling large sitemaps and ideally for breaking out the site into subsections so you can better monitor how well the crawlers are dealing with the different sections.
You only need to submit the sitemap index to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. You'll see once it's been processed that you can click on the sitemap index link and it will load a page showing the status of all the sub-sitemaps automatically.
That make sense?

Putting review aggregation in product's navigation
Do you guys think it's a bad idea to put a review aggregation page in a product's navigation? Such as: "Which Brand of Men's Shampoo Is Best for You?" Rand suggests against it in this Whiteboard Friday as it interferes with a product's funnel, but I wonder if including it in navigation will give a domain and that page increased authority for a head keyword, such as "men's shampoo." What do you guys think?

Javascript(0) extension causing an excess of 404's
For some reason I am getting a duplicate version of my urls with /javascript(0) at the end. These are creating an abundance of 404 errors. I know I am not supposed to block JS files so what is the best way to block these? Ex: http://www.jasonfox.me/infographics/page/8/javascript(0) is a 404 http://www.jasonfox.me/infographics/page/8/ is not Thank you.

Can't get my preferred URL, how much does it matter?
Hi guys. I'm building a new site at the moment - seen a solid SEO opportunity for my work. I'm a producer engineer, specialising in mixing and mastering, so i'm creating a site for online mixing services. After a bit of keyword research I decided that "online mixing" was the best, most relevant and high volume term to go for. Ideally i'd like my home page to be www.onlinemixing.com (or something similar) but alas! It's been taken, as well as all the variations (like switching words, hypens etc) How much does this matter form an SEO point of view? E.g - For the search term "online mixing" would - www.onlinemixing-signalchain.co.uk be much worse than -www.onlinemixing.co.uk? Or am I sweating the small stuff? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Isaac.

Panda Smacked - now it's your turn
Hi all Ok so we were smacked by Panda way back in June 2011, and are recovering from it, (though definitely still not back up to pre-Panda levels). Since then we have: 1. Taken down a load of thin content pages. 2. Increased content. 3. Tried to reduce page template complexity. However, one of the issues we have is that we make money from Adsense, so don't want to reduce the number of ads - however, we may still be falling foul of Panda because of it. So, please take a look at this sample page and tear it /us apart: http://www.compactlaw.co.uk/free-legal-information/children/children-act-orders.html Thank you. And if we can ever help the community back, please just ask.

Rethinking company's monthly content production process.
I'm trying to rethink my company's content production process. I believe that we're stuck using a formula that works but can surely be improved. Our Current Process It essentially boils down to posting a certain number of content pieces per month for each client. After the pages are approved and live, there isn't much thought given to them. What We're Thinking After taking a step back, we realize now that a lot of these clients have sites with a tremendous amount of content that is rarely, if ever, revisited. In hopes of creating higher quality content and avoiding having to write that certain number of pieces per month, we're investigating alternative strategies to ensure each client has fresh content. What We're Looking Into Page Edits/Refreshes - I'm beginning to wonder if we can get similar gains by simply refreshing the content that already exists. We can include additional keywords and improve the content in a fraction of the time that it takes to produce a new piece. We're struggling to come up with a process for refreshing the content, however. Ideally we'd be implementing a process where content is revisited 6-12 months, but that still doesn't take care of the problem of creating too much new content. Simplified Version I believe that my company is creating too much content. Editing/refreshing seems like a better use of resources, but I have no idea how to implement a process and develop procedures. Questions What does your content production process look like? Do you produce a certain number a month, a quarter, as needed, etc? How do you go about refreshing your content?

What's the impact of # in the main domain page?
After a little research I did in the Source Code of the root domain page of seomoz.org and searchenginejournal.com , I found that the first one contains no at all and that the other contains like 10 . I though that the was something relatively important on a web page for on page optimisation. Did I missed something? What's you opinion on the subject? Thanks for your help!

My blog title is getting added to my post title and I can't figure out how to remove it
Hello everyone, I am sure most of you guys know how to do this. I am finding that when my posts are listed in google, my blog title is added to my post title. 2 questions. 1. Is this hurting my rankings because the blog title is diluting my keywords making it look like I have a huge title? (the on page optimizer is dinging me for this. 2. I use a self hosted wordpress blog with the all in one seo plugin. Does anyone know how to remove the blog title from being appended to the post title? I thought I could do that in all in one seo by checking the rewrite title box and just having it say %post_title% but that didn't fix it. Also it was doing it before I checked that box as well. Any other ideas to try? Thanks

Canonical URL's - Fixed but still negatively impacted
I recently noticed that our canonical url's were not set up correctly. The incorrect setup predates me but it could have been in place for close to a year, maybe a bit more. Each of the url's had a "sortby" parameter on all of them. I had our platform provider make the fix and now everything is as it should be. I do see issues caused by this in Google Webmaster, for instance in the HTML suggestions it's telling me that pages have duplicate title tags when in fact this is the same page but with a variety of url parameters at the end of the url. To me this just highlights that there is a problem and we are being negatively impacted by the previous implementation. My question is has anyone been in this situation? Is there any way to flush this out or push Google to relook at this? Or is this a sit and be patient situation. I'm also slightly curious if Google will at some point look and see that the canonical urls were changed and then throw up a red flag even though they are finally the way they should be. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks,
