Using example.info when example.com is a link farm. Ok? Bad? Doesn't matter?

I'm helping a friend with his law firm site. He is using example.info because example.com is being used by a link farm. Is this hurting his search efforts?

Do not use the .info.
Lots of people who know his domain is somelawfirm.info will type in somelawfirm.com
I make this type of mistake when I am going to .gov sites. I type .com and I should know better. It is habit.
The harder you work to make his site popular the more people will go to somelawfirm.info by mistake. He does not want them going to a spammy site. Important clients, partners and potential contacts will go there and say WTF?
Look, this guy is an attorney and somelawfirm.com is a fantastic domain if this is the type of work that he does. He should get in touch with the owner and buy it. Just pay for it.
I would pay at least $10,000 for that domain if I was an attorney in that line of business. I would probably pay more.
Cheap, cheap, cheap compared to the cost of telephone directory, or billboard, or TV or radio advertising.
Don't be cheap, buy the domain.
(you might want to edit the domain out of your post... you don't want people going there and generating traffic for this person if you are thinking about buying the domain. .. or maybe someone who sees this post will run to buy it and then sell it to you for an even higher price.)

I would definitely not use a .info - it's a bargain domain extension that was used by spammers.
Help him find a better .com also EMD power is getting devalued by Google so he might want to consider his name or hybrid between brand and keywords

thank you! i would like him to change his domain regardless. I agree that .info may appear to be less "professional". His search referrals are very low, so starting over may not be such a bad idea. That's entirely different discussion.

Simply using the same domain name with a different extension won't make a difference since they are two completely different sites, despite the .com being a link farm, spam site, poor quality, etc. That being said, most people prefer .com, .net or .org over extensions such as .info, .biz, .ws, etc. simply because they are more popular and have been around longer. The extension itself won't affect your SEO one way or another, but I could see some issues with users seeing the site with the .info extension in the search rankings and not clicking on it simply because they prefer .com, .net or .org.

Header/Menu Links
Hey there, I seem to have heard mixed results on this. We have a LOT of pages that we are trying to tell google are important. Does it make that big of a difference if those pages are linked in the homepage/header menu? Or mega menu for example? We are essentially a review site, so we potentially have thousands of links that could be implemented into the menu. Thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Google ranking is HORRIBLE. Following SEOMoz suggestions and just can't climb.
First of all, the URL is stores.dhsequipment.com. In January, this online store switched from Homestead to Big Commerce. Since the store updated, we decided now is the time to update our product descriptions, URL's, title tags and meta descriptions. (For the first time, we had the ability to customize our URL's.) Product Description: I went through 2,500 products and updated the product description. I added an H1 & H2 to each description, and included pertinent information such as part numbers. Each product also received a new page title, meta description (which is usually the first line of the product description, don't know if this is bad or not) and a new URL, (which did redirect). Once I would complete a section, I would submit a new sitemap to Webmaster Tools. After a month and nothing happening, I started using SEOMoz which helped me rebuild some of my more important pages, such as the home page and main category pages such as: http://stores.dhsequipmentparts.com/stihl-ts420-parts/

However, it's been several weeks since and I'm still on page 4 or 5 in the SERPs. Just a little history on the store; this store has been in operation for more than 6 years. Previously, we ranked on page one for 75%+ of our products. My belief is because our URL's had history, probably more so than our competitors. I'm not sure what I should do. Business is super slow and we can't afford to wait much longer.0 -
Are menu links considered spammy?
Hi, I'm wondering if having a footer menu with keyword links is considered spam? It makes sense to me to have your keywords and links to relevant pages on each page. Thanks 🙂

Client has 2 websites... won't do away with old site.
Ok my situation is: We have built a new site for a client and they would like to keep both sites working. Should I just attempt to optimize both sites to rank well in their area? Or should I be suggesting a 301 redirect from the old domain to the new? Other options? Thanks in advance

Excessive Internal Linking...But it's a product page. What to do?
A few of our companies sites' product pages have the warning about excessive internal links. But these pages are product pages (for example). Should we be worried about this warning? Are there ways to avoid it? Or is it just the nature of the beast...? Thanks in advance!

Background; selling childrens clothing (for norwegian market). main page is being optimized barneklær (children clothing) which is most used term. We ve been online for around 3 months and have gone from unranked to 25th spot on google for this term. We are selling clothes from 8 different producers which all have their own 'page' - were all their products are listed. e.g http://www.epleskrinet.no/dundelina/M_13 . This page i am optimizing for the producer which is dundelina. For this term i show up in spot 24, 25 and 44. My problem is that its not the producer page that show up but the 3 most popular products. The producer page isnt ranked at all. What ive done so far is to have to producer link to my page from their site and blog (a week ago) - they were linking to my home page earlier. Ive put anchor text dundelina --> takes me to producer page on 4 out of 7 products. This was also done about a week ago. I am planning a blog about dundelina pointing to the right URL. From our blog I am using. Ive posted a couple of pictures on facebook pointing to right URL. Do i just need to be patient for this to be picked up or is there anything else i should do ? Thanks ... Wordpress when to use posts or pages
Hi Guys, I have a network of EMD sites that currently use a homepage and then we have a blog page which has 5-6 posts on. Is this the best way to do it with sites under 10-20 pages? Or should we create say 3-4 new pages/categories and drop the posts relevant to each page/category in there? Thank you Jon
