How to influence sitelinks
-
Hi Guys,
Just wondering how would you go about influencing sitelinks example:
Is there a way to remove or even change the positioning e.g. remove sale from the screenshot.
Cheers.

Hey There,
The answer from Serge on this older thread pretty much tells it like it is, when it comes to sitelinks:

Truncated sitelinks in SERP
Anyway, I've seen these pop up for certain searches (not all). I'm curious as to how these truncated sitelinks appear. When searching for a company, the full sitelinks appear with descriptions and the like, but these little ones are a little new to me (apologies, I don't know if they have an official name). Is there a way to get them to appear for our page? Or more importantly, does it matter? iZlJZ

What can I do that also my site shows sitelinks if I am among the top organic search results?
Anything onpage that I can do to increase probability that google will show sitelinks? Strangely the text which shows as sitelink for SERPs from booking.com and tripadvisor does actually for most of the sitelinks not appear on the landing page (I also checked the source code).0 -
Where is sitelinks getting its data from?
Hi, This is an issue that is really upsetting my client. There are sitelinks that are coming up when you search for his business that aren't relevant as the other pages are! I assured him that there is nothing for me to do about it besides for demoting a sitelink, which is simply a suggestion in Google's eyes. 1. I would love to know why they are choosing the titles they are publishing, which is the shortened version of states? Where are they getting it from? I don't have any linking pages with such anchor text. The only thing I can think of is that there is a clickable map that has abbreviated words of that state. Would that do it? How could I change it? 2. Also, why are they choosing pages that are really not the top visited pages on my website instead of the pages that visitors are really interested in? Here is a snapshot of the issue: http://screencast.com/t/9w9C3DPAHvYb Thanks!

Topical Sitelinks
This is a question about the non-branded, topical sitelinks SERP - i.e. those sitelinks without additional descriptive text, that tend to be shown for queries that are information centered as opposed to brand-centric. I'm been noticing an increase in these among some big brands in the travel vertical, and wanted to throw it out there to the esteemed Moz community. Are these the preserve of big site SEO/brands, or is there anything we can/should be doing to increase our chances of getting these topical sitelinks to appear? Cheers! rkdVaDN

Does a UTM tag influence the linkvalue?
Will Google value a link with a UTM tag the same as a clean link without a UTM tag? I should say that a UTM tag link is not a natural link so the linkvalue is zero. Anyone any idea how to look at this?

Sitelinks (breadcrumbs) in SERPs
Hi there, I have a .co.uk & .ie website both have the exact same content, only differences is the UK website is selling the product in pounds and the Irish website is selling in Euros plus both websites have different contact numbers. I decided to use rel canonical on the .ie pointing to the .co.uk website as I think it was having an issue in my SERPs for the .co.uk website in Google.co.uk, anyway since doing this, I am seeing strange things happening in SERPs for my keywords, for example if you click the link below, my website is number 2 for 'hot flushes' if you hover over or click on 'health or 'menopause' in the breadcrumbs in SERPs it takes you to the .co.uk website, is this normal? Does having multiple links to the same page influence the Link juice this page is able to pass
Say you have a page and it has 4 outgoing links to the same internal page. In the original Pagerank algo if these links were links to an page outside your own domain, this would mean that the linkjuice this page is able to pass would be devided by 4. The thing is i'm not sure if this is also the case when the outgoing link, is linking to a page on your own domain. I would say that outgoing links (whatever the destination) will use some of your link juice, so it would be better to have 1 outgoing link instead of 4 to the same destination, the the destination will profit more form that link. What are you're thoughts?

Can backlinks negatively influence your ranking, or worse, cause a penalty?
Hello everbody! I am the owner of a price compare website and have been running it succesfully for over two years now. However, since february the news and articles section of our website lost a great deal of it's traffic. We did not completely lose traffic but only for items that were posted after february 2011. We have skilled content writers who do good research on the topics covered in our news section, i can honestly say we write our content for our visitors and not just for the search engines. We have investigated every part of our source code but we did not find anything there that was violating any guidelines. So my next guess was that maybe some incoming links could harm our news section. The most backlinks we receive are directed to our news and article section. These links are generally put on sites which use our RSS feed. There is just one website that we think could be the reason. It had included our RSS feed on each page which resulted in over 2,500,000 backlinks from a single domain which hosts a very poor quality website. We never considered it to be harmfull so we never did anything about it. My question is if this case could be the reason for the drop in traffic? kind regards, Jeroen from the Netherlands
