Video Accessibility and SEO

How do you implement video meta data, closed captioning and transcripts to ensure both search engines and screen readers can crawl/read?
For example, in a mostly text-based video with a simple audio track hosted one brightcove and embedded into our site, we want to make sure 1) google can crawl the text on the video and 2) a vision-impaired viewer would be able to use a screen reader to hear the text on the video.

Well, one thing I do know is that... to make objects more accessible, you often need to re-code objects (like the video-player itself)
This particular post is quite interesting (even though it's old, circa 2010):
... particularly in that, the author is considering WAI ARIA which makes web-content more accessible for disabled people.
You can see where the author starts getting into WAI ARIA here. He's just doing very basic things like, making sure the web player itself (the buttons and stuff for playback) can be operated. I'm sure though, that there are ways to take this ind of stuff further
The problem is, this is a basic HTML 5 video player. If your videos are embedded using an external video player (like the YouTube one, or like this Brightcove thing) - then often you have no opportunity to recode the player. If you can't do that, then you can't make it more accessible than it is out of the box
If you're happy to supply extra content along-side the video which helps search engines to read it, then you'd be looking for the Transcript schema which is part of the VideoObject type. Google does use the Video schema, but they don't explicitly state that they look for the transcript in their primary documentation
On the official SEMRush blog, they seem to think that transcript schema is 'fantastic' for SEO (ctrl + F for "transcript" on the post). This 'relatively' recent study seems to find that, transcript schema doesn't really boost rankings all that much (though I have my suspicions that it could heighten relevance, if nothing else!)
This page from the University of Washington is quite detailed in terms of creating more accessible videos. It seems that, some support at least would be required from Brightcove. Even if you managed to caption your video, on the Brightcove end - their system would have to be capable of 'adding' your captions to their web-live video files. The post also contains information on generating accessible transcripts
From the sounds of it, the best implementation for the transcript would be to have it visible on the page (in a place where a blind user's reader would hook into it, and read it - as if it were standard content). You could then wrap it in transcript schema, so for this one I'd probably use a microdata implementation rather than JSON-LD
After that you could do more research and see how much stuff you could push into it from accessibility initiatives like WAI ARIA
Captioning... I've tried to provide you with some resources, but I'm still not quite sure myself
Hopefully this will at least get you pointed in the right direction

E-commerce catalog structuring for SEO
We have about 10 high-level product categories with 100's of products from different suppliers. What is the best way to structure our product catalog and content to drive SEO? Basically, we get all our content from the manufacturer and want to make sure we are setting up the product pages and structure correctly. Any ideas or sites that do it very well? Thank you! 🙂

Brightcove SEO Best Practices?
My company has decided to go with Brightcove as a video platform so we can better monetize all of the video content we create and better customize the experience as well. We have a pretty decent YouTube presence, and I won't let them stop using that because it would totally alienate us from part of our audience. So I was hoping someone could help me with the following: Are we able to keep videos hosted on YouTube as well as Brightcove without any risk of duplicate content? If we use the Brightcove player to embed videos in our on-site content, are we hindering potential organic search visibility? On the embeds, it's looking like it's using an iframe in our content (https://www.leafly.com/news/cannabis-101/sativa-indica-and-hybrid-whats-the-difference-between-cannabis-ty) - We're using a Brightcove WP plugin for the embed, but I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on a better way to implement/if this is even an issue at all. Are there any other general best practices/insights anyone has working with this platform? I found this article on their site, but I was wondering if there was anything else I should consider. Thank you in advance for any insights/answers!

Best SEO url woocommerce, what to do?
Hi! Today we have our product categories indexed (by misstake) and for one of our desired keywords, a category have the nr 1 rank. By misstake, we didnt set nofollow, noindex on our categories, just tags, archives etc. We are now migrating to from Ithemes Exchange to Woocommerce and ime looking on improving our SEO urls for the categories. For keyword "Key1" we rank with this url: http://site/product-category/Key1. The seo meta title and description where untouched when we launched the site last spring so it doesnt look so good.. The plan is to stripe out product-category and instead ad some description ( i have a newly written text of 95 words, 519 letters without space with they keyword precent 5 times in a natural way ) to that particular category and have the url as following: http://site/key1 and then have a 301 redirect for the old http://site/product-category/Key1. What do you think of this? What shall i consider? on the right track? Grateful for any help! // Jonas

Seo site architecture - how deep?
Hello Moz community! We are building out a site for a web hosting/web design company. I am wondering if we should just have home/categories/pages or if we should have home/categories/sub-categories/pages. I am am not sure if by adding the additional level we can create a bunch of mini-hubs within the categories. For example: Home/Web hosting/Business Web Hosting/Small Business Web Hosting I don't know if these mini-hubs within the category are a good idea or if I should keep it as flat as possible? Any thoughts on this?

SEO from links in frames?
A site was considering linking to us. Their web page is delivered entirely via frames. Humans can see the links on the page, but it's not visible in source. I'm guessing it means Google can't detect the links, and there is no SEO effect, but I wanted to confirm. Here's the site: http://www.uofc-ulsa.tk/ Example links are the Princeton Review and Kaplan on the right sidebar. Here's the source code: view-source:http://www.uofc-ulsa.tk/ Do those links have any SEO impact?

HTML entities and SEO
I recently came across an article on HTML entities that discussed how their appear in search results. The same article also mentioned that their use might be considered spam. Since I know nothing of them (other than what I read in the one article) are they a good or bad idea to make meta descriptions stand out from the crowd?

Any input on which Joomla plugins could help us to facilitate the SEO on a client's site? Wordpress has some simple all-in-ones but we're not as familiar with Joomla and it doesn't look like that's the case. Thanks!

Strange issue with video search results...
Hi all, Got a bit of a weird problem that I can't work out. I've got a page that contains a video. The SERP for one keyword has the video appearing directly in the search listing like a video rich snippet / schema. Do not want. This rich snippet style video result only appears when the page is found for this one keyword, and no other. How do I stop google displaying the page like this? Why is it only displayed like this for one keyword and no others? The video is a YouTube video and is embedded in the page. Nothing fancy is going on with the code. Any ideas? I'm stumped.
