Does SEOMoz (or anyone) offer a measurement of "overlapping" links between 2+ domains?
-
I'm trying to judge how much incremental value we'd see from 301'ing an old domain vs. revitalizing the old domain's content. My gut feeling is that most of the links to the two sites are from the same set of websites so it wouldn't add much value to 301 the old domain. I've seen the opposite of this done with Competitive Link Analysis (e.g show links that you don't have that your competitor does have).
Is there a tool available that can take 2 or more sites and tell me for instance - 72% of the inbound links or linking root domains are the same?

Thanks Shaun, I appreciate your response. I'll go ahead and submit this to the Feature Requests Forum.

This is what I do:
- export inbound links from OSE to Excel.
- put the linking pages into column A.
- tag each set with the respective domain they're linking to in column B.
- merge the two sets.
- create a pivot table.
- put linking page as the Row Label.
- put the domain being linked to as both the Value (as a count) and the Column Label.
- Sort columns highest to lowest.
- Look for all of the places where you have a value in both domain columns.
Those are all of the pages that link to both domains.
Actually, I typically strip the linking pages down to just their domains so that I can see which domains link to both of the sites I'm reviewing, but you might prefer to see it at the page level.

I believe that Majestic SEOs CliqueHunter tool does that - put in up to 10 sites and shows which have links from the same domains. I think it might be part of the paid info, but worth checking.
Good luck!

I am not aware of a tool which does what you want. You can take the Open Site Explorer link report from both sites and download it to an Excel file. In Excel you can compare the fields to determine which ones are unique.

How Do You Currently Analyze Outbound Link Profiles?
So I'm looking at some potential guest blogging &/or article writing opportunities and I'm looking for a tool which will analyze the OUTBOUND links from the site....it would be handy if inbound were displayed too but not essential as there are many tools available for this. When I ask for sample sites it is clear that a number of them (all?!) have been created purely for us content purposes, however it would be good to analyze the site further. A tool that could analyze its outbound links would give me a rough idea if the site is suitable or simply a glorified link-farm. Also, if you have any useful links regarding industry averages on outbound links for blogs & article sites (eg Ezine) for benchmarking it would be good! Thanks

Important link building question for me!
Hi, When building backlinks how important is the location of where the website resides? For example, if I was targeting a search term in Google UK, will link building from websites hosted on UK servers have a higher positive impact on rankings then building links from websites hosted on US servers? Lets say in the above UK hosted is better, what if you have 2 websites hosted in the UK but one with .com and one with .co.uk, I take it from a domain point of view the .co.uk will have a better impact on SERP's then the .com. Now looking at the above from a more wider scale lets say I have the following: A .co.uk website aimed at a search term in Google UK. Example: 1. 100 backlinks from websites hosted in the US with .com extension. 2. 100 backlinks from websites hosted in the UK with .co.uk extension. Is it a FACT that number 2 will 100% be more beneficial in UK rankings? Cheers
