Unsolved 4XX-Broken
-
Hi guys, we are checking the report your website is doing about our page and it looks like Top Pages, is looking like we have too many 4XX-Brocken links, this could be related that we don't need that page anymore or the content was removed. Do you recomend we to reactivate that link and redirect to our main website? www.vending-machines.ie? or what can we do with these links that are not longer needed in our page?

@VendoIreland seems like you've got a lovely long ChatGPT answer here so I'll chip in as well.
If that page contained information that is no longer relevant or has been deleted then it is completely fine for that URL to return a 4xx status code (normally a 404).
In the case that you've moved the page's information to a different page you should implement a redirect (often referred to as 301 redirects).
However, what you should not do is link to broken or redirected pages, which is maybe what the Moz report is picking up on? It's hard to say without seeing the report.
I haven't taken a detailed look but I can see that the link to "Contact" in your footer gets redirected from /contact to /contact/
The crucial difference in those two URLs is the trailing slash. The fix here is to update any hyperlinks that don't contain a trailing slash to use one that does: https://vending-machines.ie/contact/
Hope that helps! If you want to share the Moz report you can fire it over to me at stefan.eldridge-gatti@digitalsix.co.uk and I'll see if I can provide some more clarity.
Cheers,
Stefan -

Dealing with 4XX errors, specifically broken links, is important for maintaining a healthy and user-friendly website. Here are some recommendations for handling such situations:Assess the Importance of the Pages:
Determine the importance and relevance of the pages that are generating 4XX errors. If the content is still valuable, consider updating and reactivating the page.
Content Removal or Update:If the content is outdated or no longer relevant, you may want to remove it. Alternatively, consider updating the content to make it current and useful.
Redirecting to Relevant Pages:If the content is no longer available, but the page has external links or is indexed in search engines, consider setting up 301 redirects to relevant and existing pages on your website. This will help maintain SEO value and provide a seamless experience for users and search engines.
Custom 404 Page:Create a custom 404 error page that provides users with helpful information, such as a search bar, popular pages, or a link to your homepage. This ensures that users who encounter broken links have options for navigation.
Review and Update Sitemap:Ensure that your website's XML sitemap is up-to-date. This helps search engines discover and index the latest content on your site.
Monitor Webmaster Tools:Use tools like Google Search Console to identify and monitor 404 errors. This will help you stay informed about issues and address them promptly.
Communicate Changes to Users:If a page is being redirected or removed, it's good practice to communicate this to your users through on-page messages or announcements. This helps manage expectations and reduces confusion.
Periodic Content Audits:Conduct regular content audits to identify and address outdated or irrelevant content. This proactive approach can help prevent the accumulation of broken links over time.
In your specific case, if you decide to reactivate a page and redirect it to your main website , ensure that the redirection is relevant and adds value to users. Additionally, check for any potential impact on SEO and update internal links to reflect the changes.Remember, the goal is to provide a positive user experience, maintain SEO integrity, and keep your website content up-to-date.

Fixing broken links from old domain
Howdy Mozfans, I am fixing some broken links and I was wondering if someone could help me out. Multiple old domains (www.olddomain1.com, www.olddomain2.com and so on) have been migrated to www.currentdomain.com/olddomain1 and www.currentdomain.com/olddomain2 over a year ago. The old domains redirect to the current domain but we found that a lot of those were redirecting to 404 pages at the current domain. We now redirected all URL’s that were on the old domains correctly. Will those redirects ever get indexed (and passing linkjuice) since the old domains haven’t been used for such a long time? If not, would it be a good idea to redirect the 404 pages on the current domain (that were a result of the previous redirects)? Thanks in advance!

Redirecting broken backlink to my site
Hello guys, I found an expired domain with inbound links from 41 different root domains, almost all of them from relevant sources. I have 2 ideas in my mind: A) I am thinking about buying this expired domain and place a 301 redirect to a post in my blog who talks about a similar subject.Relevance: let's say the content of the expired domain is about "horses wallpapers" and the content of my site is about "horse transport". Not the same, but a post in my blog could talk about "top 10 horse wallpapers". Do you see what I mean? B) Contact all the webmasters with broken links, alert them and expect they are nice and place a nice link to the post in my blog talking about "top 10 horse wallpapers". What do you think? Should I take A or B? Any other idea? I added a picture with the Domain Rank of the broken links 🙂 Thanks a lot !!! Luis V1LZBC3

AllTop Linking Me to Other Sites Feeds, Webmasters Reporting Lots of Broken Links
I submitted my blog to All Top awhile ago and something seems to be wrong with their feed. They're sending people to mysite.com/truth-o-meter.com/this-is-a-post. It's not just truth-o-meter either. I'm getting links that are supposed to go to all kinds of political blogs. As a result, I'm getting a ton of broken links reported on Google Webmasters. I couldn't find any real support option on alltop.com, and when I log in, there are no sites for me to manage. Instead, I resubmitted the site with the correct feed address and in the comments, I mentioned the problem. All I got was a message saying the site was rejected. I believe because I already added the site. But I'm thinking they didn't pay attention to the comments. (In fact the message may have gone through an auto-filter considering how quickly it was rejected.) Is there a way to solve this? Is this a situation in which I would use the disavow tool? If All Top continues to create bad links, how do I stop the issue once and for all? Thanks!

Inbound Links from Broken Pages
Hi all, We have a client who has a lot of inbound links from external pages that are broken/404. The 404 pages are EXTERNAL and linking to my client's pages, but their domain still has authority and their home page (and other pages) still load. My question is: what should we do about this? Do we detox those links, or are they still sending some juice given that they have domain authority, despite the fact that the pages linking to my client are broken? So in other words: - My client is: yyyy.com - They have a link from vvvv.com/services, which is a broken page - So what should we do about this? Thanks all! Gavin

How can I find and fix my broken links
There are a number(110) links that SEOmoz has found to have 404 errors. I have been able to find and fix many of them but there are links that are coming from our home page that do not seem to exist. I cannot even find the links in our system in wordpress. Is there something obvious that I am missing? Is there a way to locate where the links are originating from?

Competitor analysis and broken links
I have just been looking at a competitors links and have discovered some of the links they have obtained dont actually exist when clicking through to the directory or blog in question, although still appear in opensiteexplorer. Is this common? and is it just a sign of bad link building practices?

What value do external broken links give to a domain?
I ask, as I've just used opensite explorer to look at external links a competitor has, and I've found the high value ones at the top of the list go to a page that no longer exists on their site. Are these stiill of value in the SERP's, or have they messed up by not putting a 301 redirect on them?
