Any Good Ideas on Promoting a Contest?
-
Does anyone have any good advice on how to promote a contest? Has anyone hosted a contest and had a lot of good luck that could offer some pointers on how to get the word out? The contest consists of people uploading a 60 second or less WildBlue commercial video that they have created. The video with the most votes will win the competition, and we are giving the winner a $50 cash prize. So far I have been Tweeting about it, and I have sent out a press release. Any other advice will be appreciated. The link to the contest page is http://www.mybluedish.com/lp/contest/ if you want to take a look at it. Thank you in advance.

This seems like a contest your customers might be interested in. Do you have an email list? Perhaps send it out there.
I have never run a contest where someone has to create a video, but I have had success with free contest listing sites. Do a quick google search and you will find a few where you can list your contest. Also, don't be afraid to ask your followers to RT your Tweets. I find when I ask followers are happy to oblige.
Best of luck with the contest!

I know this probably isn't what you're looking for by any means, but I think it's going to be hard to really promote the contest given how small the cash prize is. It's just not exciting enough to really generate any sort of buzz, and certainly no press whatsoever. If you had a few thousand dollars in your budget and thought up some unique prizes for the top 3 winners, it would be much more marketable.
But I understand, budget is always an issue. I would try tweeting bloggers and influencers in your niche or in related industries asking if they can RT the details. Now is the time to call in any favors you have from personal connections or people you know in the industry.
You might try reaching out to niche amateur filmmaking communities, although I suspect you would have much better luck with a bigger prize. Though that's not really the audience you want to reach with this contest, it could help get you some better quality submissions, for content's sake.

I haven't personally hosted a contest but some of the ones I have seen have mainly used Facebook to promote it. This allowed fans to view the videos others have created and comment on them. Potential entrants can then see what others have done and get ideas. It also creates more followers of the contest as they come back to see the new videos. It is only one idea I have seen work in the past but I hope it helps.

Is it good or bad to add noindex for empty pages, which will get content dynamically after some days
We have followers, following, friends, etc pages for each user who creates account on our website. so when new user sign up, he may have 0 followers, 0 following and 0 friends, but over period of time he can get those lists go up. we have different pages for followers, following and friends which are allowed for google to index. When user don't have any followers/following/friends, those pages looks empty and we get issue of duplicate content and description too short. so is it better that we add noindex for those pages temporarily and remove noindex tag when there are at least 2 or more people on those pages. What are side effects of adding noindex when there is no data on those page or benefits of it?

A good experiment to test keyword/vertical difficulty?
I'm trying to rank a brand new client site but getting nowhere for our main keyword/s - this after 6 months. We have built lots of good links and literally tried everything to fix this. What's a good way for me to test the keywords on a different page / domain to be certain the problem isn't with the vertical/keyword? I'd love to have some advice on this vs. how to fix the problem, which I've asked about here before. I'm assuming buying and trying to rank a new domain is a bad idea since sandboxing etc. could make it very difficult. Perhaps sending some links to a Tumblr page that's optimized for the main keyword or something similar? Would love to hear some suggestions - thanks a lot.

Pingbacks and Trackbacks: A good source for Disavow links?
I am 100% new to the world of WordPress, more advanced CMS systems, and all the interesting things that have been developed over the last several years on the web. After installing WordPress I noticed options to allow pingbacks and trackbacks. Upon researching these, I found it interesting that you can very quickly and easily identify spam wordpress blog sites that mention your article in a spammy fashion if you leave this option ENABLED. Because you literally get a notification of new nonsense happening on the web that may affect you. Is this a logical, rational thing to leave enabled and use as one of many tricks to manage new additions to a disavow file? It almost seems like a Godsend because you don't have to go looking for them.

Long term strategy to retain link 'goodness', I need some help!
Hi, I have a few questions around the best approach to retain as much link juice / authority from transitioning multiple domains into 1 single domain over the next year or so. I have 2 similar websites (www.brandA.co.uk and www.brandB.co.uk) which I need to transition to a new website (www.brandC.co.uk) over the next 2 years. Both A&B are established and have there own brand value, brand C will be a new website. I need to start introducing the brand from website C onto A&B straight away and then eventually drop the brands from A&B and just be left with C. One idea I am considering is: www.brandA.co.uk becomes brandA.brandC.co.uk (brandA sits as a subdomain on brandC website) Ultimately over time I would drop the subdomain (brandA) and just be left with www.brandC.co.uk The other option is: www.brandA.co.uk becomes brandC.co.uk/brandA...with the same ultimate aim as above. In both above case the same would be done for brandB, either becoming a subdomain of a folder on brandC website What I need to know is what is the best way to first pass any SEO goodness from the websites for brandA and brandB to the intermediate solution of either brandA.brandC.co.uk or brandC.co.uk/brandA (I see this intermediate solution being in place for approx 2 years). And then how to transition the intermediate solution into just having brandC.co.uk Which solution will aid growing the SEO goodness on the final brandC.co.uk website? Does google see subdomains as part of the main domain and thus the main domain will benefit from any links going to the subdomain or is it better to always use /folders as google sees these as more part of one website? ...or is there another option that I haven't considered? I know it's rater confusing so please give me a shout if you want anymore info. Thanks James

Good category pages - do you have examples?
Hello all. Currently doing a major update to my e-commerce website which sells tractor spare parts. I would like to optimize the category pages, which feature the parts from a particular manufacture of tractor parts. Does anyone have good examples of well optimized product page which do not have a detrimental effect on the visual quality of the site? It is important to see the products. The best I have found is: http://www.simplyelectricals.co.uk/ but I sure a better solution must exist Thanks David
