Should H1s be used in the logo? If they are and it is dynamic on each page to relate to the page content, is this detrimental to the site rather than having it in the page content?
-
On some sites, the H1 is contained within the logo and remains consistent throughout the site (i.e. the company name is in the of the logo).
If the h1 in a logo is dynamic for each page (i.e. on the homepage it is company name - homepage) is this better or worse to have it changed out on the logo rather than having it in the page content?

Brian,
I agree with everyone else. H1 should be used for the main heading of each page. H2 should be used for a subheading. H1's, H2''s, H3's, etc are used for the sizing and coloring of the content. As far as search engines go; it's helpful to let it know what the main subject of that page is. Hope this helps!

Ideally you should only have one H1 tag on the page. If your logo is the H1 then that prevents you from getting the most out of any subsequent (keyword relevant) headings.
Unless you're in a tough battle to rank for your own brand name I'd remove the H1 tag from the logo

Thanks for all the responses and help from everyone! Super appreciated

H1 is Heading man, and the heading is heading, the most important thing of document presentation. Do you know how i read the newspapers, 80% of time, i read the Headlines, and if the Headlines are nice and interested, than i will read it at all.
Headings are important, very important, user oriented factor, and a bit for search engine.

Great question.... Understanding that the search engines are tasked with RELEVANCE in the serps, and in order to deliver value to the reader, "that matches" the tags like the H1, helps the search engines understand what your trying to tell the reader. Using a unique H1 for each pages keyword focus rather than an image file name will also prove to bring more relevant placement=traffic=potential sales. Happy tagging Tom

The H1 tag should not contain the logo.
The purpose of Header tags from a design perspective is each tag can have an assigned size and weight value. There are numerous methods for assigning this value but an H1 tag might be 300% of the normal font-size for the page, while an H2 is 250%, and so forth.
The H1 tag is designed to display the subject of the page. Imaging a newspaper headline "World Ends Tomorrow". That would be an H1 tag. You wouldn't display "New York Times" as an H1 tag.
I am not aware of any effect to be gained by enclosing your logo in a header tag. Header tags normally manipulate text size and weight (boldness). While you could make any adjustment you want for a header tag, it would be outside normal standards.

Word Count - Content site vs ecommerce site
Hi there, what are your thoughts on word count for a content site vs. an ecommerce site. A lot of content sites have no problem pushing out 500+ words per page, which for me is a decent amount to help you get traction. However on ecommerce sites, a lot of the time the product description only needs to be sub-100 words and the total word count on the page comes in at under 300 words, a lot of that could be considered duplicate. So what are your views? Do ecommerce sites still need to have a high word count on the product description page to rank better?

Should I have content on my home page or links to my articles
Hi, i have asked this question a couple of times without any luck so i am hoping third time lucky. My site www.in2town.co.uk has dropped in the rankings for two of my important keywords, lifestyle magazine and lifestyle news, so i am just wondering if i have to much content on the page for google to understand what the page is about. i am thinking to just have the links on my page instead of the intro to the articles, for example another online magazine does this, http://www.femalefirst.co.uk/ Can anyone please let me know if i should keep the intro to the articles or if i should go with the links idea like femalefirst does to help google understand that we are a lifestyle magazine any advice would be great

Static content VS Dynamic changing content
We have collected a lot of reviews and we want to use them on our Categories pages. We are going to be updating the top 6 reviews per categories every 4 days. There will be another page to see all of the reviews. Is there any advantage to have the reviews static for 1 or 2 weeks vs. having unique new ones pulled from the data base every time the page is refreshed? We know there is an advantage if we keep them on the page forever with long tail; however, we have created a new page with all of the reviews they can go to.
