Domain Authority and Google keywords
-
Hi there,
We have a domain authority of 33, one of our competitors has an authority of 10, yet they appear to list higher on many keyword searches in google. Is there a reason for this? Our site is 5 months old, and their site is over 3 yrs old.
Thanks for your feedback

thank you very much....
-
Hi,
I would not only base domain authority for ranking,
look at the following -
-
Content of the two websites, ages do they have more/better content?
-
Website mentions in Google type the two URLS and compare data?
-
Age of the domain does have a factor if it has been indexed for the period, I know if the domain goes out of the index you can run into issues, what counts the best is how long the domain has been indexed within search engines not the first time the domain was purchased.

Quality link building, just keep going.
-
Thanks Erica.... I feel like we do a good job on site and we seem to have more incoming links than this other site.... the only thing I can see is domain age...
just can't believe this is valued so highly
-
Yes of course. Websites from the 1990s and early 2000 and that are still updated rank much better than new ones, ever if they are not very well SEO'd.
-
Does Age of a domain have an effect on rankings ?
-
There could be a variety of reasons as a higher DA doesn't guarantee better ranking than your competitors.
A couple thoughts off the top of my head:
-
Age of domain. You do have a newer one.
-
Pertaining to those specific keywords, they could have better backlinks or better SEO'd pages for those keywords.

Do you have a proper .xml sitemap submitted to Google Webmaster Tools?
I'm not sure what your skill level is, but I'd read through the Beginner's Guide to SEO and assess what your own site for what's lacking. Then make some good changes on it. Also look at your competitor's site and figure out what they're doing well and what they're doing poorly, so you know how you can build your site to be better than theirs, which will eventually pay in those better rankings.

Google Cache
So, when I gain a link I always check to see if the page that is linking is in the Google cache. I've noticed recently that more and more pages are actually not showing up in Google's cache, yet still appear in search results. I did read an article from someone whoo works at Google a few weeks back that there is sometimes an error with the cache and occasionally the cache will not display. This week, my own website isn't showing up in the cache yet I'm still ranking in SERP's. I'm not worried about it, mostly whitehat, but has there been any indication that Google are phasing out the ability to check cache's of websites?

Google inaccurate results: Common or error?
Hi all, While searching for our primary keyword, I can see 2 websites on second page results which are non-related to the keyword or industry but their company name is this keyword. Like if I want to rank and searching for "SEO", there are 2 websites which called "seo trucks" and "seo paints". I wonder how Google is ranking these websites for high competition keyword with 1 million searches per month. So the keyword in URL and this keyword mentioned across the website being their brand name taking over the other potential ranking factors like backlinks, relevant content, user clicks, etc..... Thanks

URL in SERP: Google's stand
Months back, we can notice "keyword" will be bold and highlighted if its in the SERP URL. Now Google no more highlights any URLs even with exact match of keyword we search. Beside UI, Does this mean Google might devalued or reduced the importance of URL as ranking factor? We can see many search results match partially or completely in URL with search keywords.

Domain Extensions
I wanted to get everyone's thoughts on the new domain extensions that are now available. I'm considering buying a couple .lawyer and .attorney domains for clients. I noticed when I tried to buy these I was asked for verification if we're going to be offering legal services through the site. That led me to think that it may be possible in the future that with this verification, if it's required, that means that not just anybody can have these domain names. That leads me to think that it's possible that these domains may benefit from users searching for terms with "lawyer" or "attorney" in their search term. I haven't seen anything in terms of these domain extensions and SEO yet, but I'd like to know your thoughts as to how these will be treated in the future. I can imagine these will be more valuable than the old .net, .us, .info, etc., domains.

Keyword stuffing in
Having a discussion with my boss over whether the following page is over-saturated (stuffed) with keywords in the element: http://www.godreamvacations.com/BarceloHotels -- We implemented the description and keyword tag text back in 2010 when the boss gave me the text. Anyone have any good responses to the bosses' response (below)? "These are the ones (pages) that are actually working wonderfully well on Bing. At the time, I researched the optimal number of characters and tried to really follow all that was suggested by SEO experts. As far as the keywords, I would say you could remove the ones without the “s”, for example, take out “Barcelo Hotel” and leave “Barcelo Hotels” I think this is all relevant to what is found on the page. I don’t know what they would expect us to do differently than this. Do you? What is your MOZ currently saying is the optimal number of characters for a Title?" Any responses would be appreciated. Am I wrong in saying it's "stuffed" and looks spammy? What would you tell your boss?

Why does Google say they have more URLs indexed for my site than they really do?
When I do a site search with Google (i.e. site:www.mysite.com), Google reports "About 7,500 results" -- but when I click through to the end of the results and choose to include omitted results, Google really has only 210 results for my site. I had an issue months back with a large # of URLs being indexed because of query strings and some other non-optimized technicalities - at that time I could see that Google really had indexed all of those URLs - but I've since implemented canonical URLs and fixed most (if not all) of my technical issues in order to get our index count down. At first I thought it would just be a matter of time for them to reconcile this, perhaps they were looking at cached data or something, but it's been months and the "About 7,500 results" just won't change even though the actual pages indexed keeps dropping! Does anyone know why Google would be still reporting a high index count, which doesn't actually reflect what is currently indexed? Thanks!

Choosing Domain Name
I am trying to choose between two domains:- Lets call them www.exampledeals.com www.examplediscountsforum.com While 1 is shorter than 2, people don't search for 'Example Deals' but they do search for 'Example Discounts' is quite large numbers, therefore 2 containts all the keywords. How much does including the keywords which you are targetting in the domain affect ranking these day?

Why Google Cache is not showing ?
Hello Everyone, I have a question for you. Today when I checked cache:www.bollywoodshaadis.com on Google.com, it is showing following message. 404. <ins>That’s an error.</ins> The requested URL /search?hl=en&source=hp&biw=1366&bih=519&q=cache%3Awww.bollywoodshaadis.com&oq=cache%3Awww.bollywoodshaadis.com&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=2501l16050l0l16394l30l30l0l23l0l0l353l1781l0.1.4.2l7l0 was not found on this server. I was able to see sitelinks till yesterday but they also have disappeared now. Can someone please tell me why is this happening? Is this a temporary issue? or something needs to be done.
