How to make google not index quotes from other sites?
-
Hey guys,
I have a site where we post quite a lot of info from other sites. We don't want google to de-index our pages because parts of it are quotes from other sites. What would you use to make it so Google sees it's a quote from another site? Or to just make Google not index the quote?
Thanks!

We're using Vbulletin and we do really want the rest of page to get indexed. I'll just link back to them then. Thanks to both of you!

Hi Gianluca,
Yes I did - Thanks for pointing it out

If the quotes are just part of the content and not a big part of the content, I would not worry too much about eventual problems, always if you cite the source of the quote.
If the quote substantially means the highest % of the page content, but you want the page to be indexed, then the use of the canonical tag with the original source in it, it's not the solution, because the SE will filter out your page and show the source only. In that case I think that a link back to the source could be enough.
There could be an alternative, but it is just an idea as i don't know if it could work in your case: to use a schema (microdata) in order to better specify the source to the SE: http://schema.org/Article and http://schema.org/BlogPosting
Then, if you don't want to have the quoting pages be seen at all, then simply don't make them indexable with noindex,follow or use the canonical tag with the source url in.

1. Add a nofollow tag to the head of the page so that it doesn't get indexed
<meta name="robots" content="noindex, follow" />
I think you meant: Add a noindex tag..., right?

Hi,
I would say that you have a couple of options:-
1. Add a nofollow tag to the head of the page so that it doesn't get indexed
<meta name="robots" content="noindex, follow" />
2. Add a canonical link to the head of the page pointing back to the original content
<link href="http://www.original-site.com"rel="canonical">
I would try to go for the 2nd option if possible but it can be difficult to implement if you are using a CMS system. Also make sure that you don't have more quoted content on your site than you have original content.

Google rankings
I have encountered a serious problem with google rankings and the sequence of events goes like this for a high volume phrase. I make changes to the page which gets a score of 98 in Moz and equally good scores in other tools. I resubmit the page to Google for searching via crawl in google webmasters. After about 1/2 to 1 day, the page will be ranked between 30 and 50. Within another 1/2 to 1 day, the ranking goes completely away. This page has much higher scores than pages that are ranked. Other phrases continue to rank OK.

Rel="Canonical"
Hi!, We´ve just launched a new website and on this web we are using a lot Call to Actions on every page of the web and all of this CTA`s goes to the same Landing Page. (Ej: http://www.landing page.com) The problem comes when Google says this Landing Page is duplicate content because we are using some parameters like, for instance, http://www.landing page.com/?fuente=Soporteensalesforce So now we have just 1 Landing Page but Google sees 13 pages, because of this parameters and Moz alerted me that Google is seeing it as duplicate content. Yesterday I put this on the head of the only Landing Page we have so Google can see it in the proper way, as just one landing, but I don´t know if it is enough or should I do anything else? What I put on the Head: Hope someone can help me about this because I´ve tried to find a solution and this is the only thing that came up to me, and don´t know if it´s the right thing. Thanks for your time!

Site Structure. Which is better?
Ideally, which model is better for site structure: 1. Homepage -> Categories -> Individual Pages (See example here http://www.wordtracker.com/attachments/bead-site-structure.gif) OR 2. Homepage -> Categories -> Sub-categories -> Indicidual Pages In the 2nd model, are the individual pages too far away from the homepage?

SEO and multilanguage site
Hi all! I have used a wordpress plugin called WPML which translates a webpage into another language so that I have a webpage in two different languages (spanish (main market) and english). I'm just doing the seo for the spanish market and I'm gonna start with the seo for the english one. Should I do it just the same as I had a one-single-language page? just with english keywords, etc. I guessit would only differ in the way I do the linkbuilding strategy as the markets are different Thanks

Indexed pages in Google webmaster tools
Hi Mozzers, Very quick question. Google WM tools interface has updated and I want to confirm I'm looking at the correct figure. If I look up 'Your site on the web' / 'search queries' / then the 'pages' - this is correct indexation figure yes? This differs from the 'site:' command but that's always the case. Can anyone confirm, Thanks
