Multiple Businesses in One Location + In One Google Places Account Under Review
-
HI,
My Problem: Multiple businesses in one location, under one Google Places account, one being reviewed.
My Question: see very bottom of this post
Background: I am trying to help a client get both of his businesses ranking in Google Places. The problem is the office building has multiple doctors/practices in the same building and gave no business suite numbers to doctors that rent office space. Here is the list of the other businesses in the office: http://www.fullcirclefamilycare.com/health_care.htm. The problem escalates because the doctor I am trying to help has a chiropractic business & a spinal decompression business, both legal entities, both different registered company names, different phone numbers, and websites, but both located in this office building. He rents two offices (they should be suites) in the building. The problem escalates even more because the doctor has registered both locations (see below) in his Google Places account:
Westchester Spinal Decompression Center
1241 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains, NY 10605 (914) 421-1502 Joint Effort Chiropractic
1241 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains, NY 10605 (914) 368-7668
jointeffortchiro.comThe first (spinal decompression) was registered a long time ago and ranks #1 for "spinal decompression white plains NY." The second he just confirmed the Google Post card a few weeks ago and has been under review since.
More research so you can help me better:
The "The Shop for Holistic Health / The Shop at Full Circle", a businesses location in the same office building has verified their account and ranks #1 for "women's health care white plains NY" and "midwife white plains NY." Another business,in the same office building "Keras-Donaghy Melissa S", has not claimed their listing and ranks #1 for "Women’s Health physical Therapist white plains NY" Another business, "Kuhl Josephine MD," has not claimed their listing ranks in the top 10 for "Adolescent Psychiatrist white plains NY."
My Question: What do I do, wait it out and see if Google will remove the "under review" under his current Google Places account or do I add a suite number now and see if Google will send another post card? Or do I create a new account, add the business, add a suite number this time, and see if they will confirm it. I don't want to do this because the doctor already has 12 reviews on this Google Places account. If I do do this, what do I do with the Google Places account under review?

When you say major sites, are you talking yelp, citysearch, etc.?
With those there is no problem with getting reviews on a Dr. Name. On Google, you will even see XYZ Clinic, Dr. Smith, XYZ clinic Dr. Jones, etc. so the clinic ends up with multiple places listings by also listing the docs.
Check out optometrists Houston 77006. There is a clinic called Eye Excellence and they have a site local listing with three individual optometrists listed as Eye Excellence - Dr. A, Eye Excellence Dr. B, and Eye Excellence Dr. C. Two of these even have the same phone number and all display the same photos, etc.
If there are other review sites that you are speaking of, let me know.

HI Robert,
And when you choose to promote the doctor like you suggested, how do you work citations on major sites...since most are listing Company name, Address, Phone Number.

This is not uncommon, there are a couple of ways you can work around what you have. First, have you checked with a Google rep (are you doing any PPC, etc?). You might find a bit of assistance there, if so.
Assuming you don't want to continue the trudge, you keep the spinal decomp listing.
Create a Places account for the Dr. : Dr. Crack Backsnapper, D.C. address, suite 102, etc. Use new phone number. You can still link to his website. The only thing will be that he will show up as Dr. as opposed to Joint Effort Clinic. Now, in case there is a fear around the name, branding, etc. I would seek to disavow it. One of my clients is a DC in a large city. He is the Chiro for a pro baseball and a pro football team. He had a clinic name as yours does, but no one searches on that name. They are searching for the doc. When you refer a friend, it is rare you say Joint Effort Clinic, but rather, Dr. Backsnapper.
If, by chance, Google lets the clinic name through in spite of the decomp, you will have to make a decision on the Dr. Versus Clinic issue.
Hope this is helpful.

Negative SEO with Google Images
We have a client in the heavy equipment industry that is trying to "push down" images in a Google image search that are associated with an accident over ten years ago. This client has launched a new website, and we have applied the best practices of on-page SEO (page titles, unique meta-descriptions, alt-image tags, focused keyword targeting, etc.). The challenge we have is with Google Image results. It seems the image results shown in the Google Image search rankings are often not inline with how images have been labeled in the alt-tag section. I have checked these images with the Moz Chrome extension, and I have often found the way the image is labeled in the alt-tag is not related to the search query made within the Google image search bar. I certainly may not be factoring in other weighted items when it comes to how images are ranked. Are there other ranking factors associated with Google Image results outside of the Alt-Image Tag? If so, what are those factors? Our ultimate goal is to provide a strategy that would allow us to tag images within this specific sector that are relevant to this specific heavy equipment product, and at the same time, "push down" the rankings of the images that have a negative association to them. We certainly want to take the right approach here, and want to earn these rankings. However, the way Google ranks images seems to be a mystery of sorts. Is there a specific strategy relevant to Google Image rankings that would fall inline with the challenge listed above? I appreciate any advice on this topic. Thank you.

Do we need an exact marker on Google Maps?
My business covers a service area, but we would still like to have a precise listing on Google Maps for SEO purposes. Is it possible to edit maps to set up a specific address listing, or is that something we can only do when establishing the Google+ listing? I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that when you set up a service area in your plus/places account, Google limits how much of your address is shown in maps. Feedback appreciated!

Google only posting some reviews?
A doctor of mine recently complained that his patient went on to his Google+ Local listing and submitted a review, but it never showed up. The patient can see it on his own page, but it's not viewable publicly. Any ideas or posts you've seen about this? Thanks! Tom

Does adding the city to your business name in a Places page help or harm Local SEO?
Hi, All! Another local SEO question... For one of our clients, the title on their Place page is <official business="" name=""><city>. Example: John's Sporting Goods Detroit. Now, most citations will say "John's Sporting Goods." Is having "Detroit" as part of the business name in Places problematic (NAP inconsistency) and we should remove it, or is it helpful for ranking for "sporting goods detroit" or is it neither?</city></official> Thanks! Aviva

Can different phone numbers affect your google places listing?
If you use a non-landline number e.g 0330 or 0845 etc does this affect your position within google places? Is it better to use a local number e.g 0208 (uk) And if you use a local number for your google places account but have a different number on your website will this have a negative effect?

Google Places & Maps
Hi I'm preparing a confernce in France to explain Google Places & Maps to an audience interested in promoting local businesses but mainly hotels and other tourism related. As you know, searches such as Hotel + City are giving a lot of visibility to Google Places results. Being in the top results is as important if not more important than organic ranking. I'm going to be looking into the new presentation of Google Places results in the SERPs and maybe underlining a difference in results between Places and Maps which I've just recently spotted. Can anyone recommend some good ressources online to explain the changes that came about with Google Places and ranking factors I should be talking about ? If you have a pet theory on what triggers the different presentation of Places results in the main SERPS or what factors make one local business rank better than another in Google Places then please discuss below too 😉 Ah ! Almost forgot, any feedback on Google Boost use also interesting for us ; although it isn't in France yet Thanks Neil
