Does anyone know if a large forum can impact your seo rating on specific terms?
-
I have a large forum and I'm trying to figure out how to leverage it for SEO. Hopefully it'll help. Any advice? Does google ignore forums?

If you are looking for building links via forums you need to do the following:
-
Make a name for yourself on the forum by helping out users.
-
Post a fair bit on the forum
-
Make sure the forum is related or semi related.
-
Look for chances to place links but make sure it is a do-follow forum.
Don't get me wrong a lot of forums are junk but you can find forums which are highly authority and related they are beneficial not only for link building but traffic/lead gen.

I agree with Ryan... but also think that a forum can impact your SEO if you allow members to run wild.
If you allow them to stuff it full of crap links to bad neighborhoods, allow the bot spammers to hammer it and allow unintelligent eight word posts.. then don't be surprised if your site gets a rankings reduction.

From Google's perspective, web pages are treated equally. Whether the page is a static site, forum, blog article, e-commerce page, etc. it is all content.
A forum site can earn top rankings on competitive key words. Some forum threads are very authoritative and earn many links. In actuality, this Q&A section is a forum. Your question is the original post which began the thread. My reply is an additional post in the thread.
It is common to see forum threads at the top of Google rankings, especially for various troubleshooting issues where discussions and answers are provided.
With respect to using a forum for SEO, a lot depends on your forum software. Many forum software solutions are not SEO friendly. There is a lot of work involved managing the forums to keep the site on topic, remove spam, etc.

Will a comment section on my site help with seo
I have never been a fan of comment pages such as the sun http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/tv/4783642/bruce-willis-appears-on-the-one-show-in-awkward-interview.html but i was told the other day that not only is it good for the reader but it is also good for seo and increase the number of times that google would visit the page and i would like to know if that is true. if you have added a comment section to your articles i would like to know if you have noticed any change.

Tons of Long-Tail Conversion Terms -- What Should We Do?
A friend of mine runs a website that recently got hit with Penguin. His site now longer has authority. But he does have a long list of very similar longtail phrases. Example: Dog Food for Cheap Cheap Dog Food Organic Dog Food Home Made Dog Food Dog Chow Organic Dog Chow Basically, these are all about the same thing. But, he'd love to write content that has the exact longtail phrase in the title.. but not over-stuff it. He feels that if he puts it on the same site, it might look too spammy in G's eyes. But how would one go about doing it? I realize he should "Theme" this info -- but what does that really mean? Its all kind of the same theme.. IS there a way to do it in wordpress with categories? Please -- we'd love your help. We are also curious about how to run ANY site in the post-penguin world without adding redundant content.

Can you use creative commons non-commercial images on a company blog?
Does anyone know if it is okay to use creative commons images on your company blog if they are under the Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 2.0 Generic license. Technically you are using it on a commercial site, but you are not directly making money from the image or selling it.

Can I tap into everyone's creativity for a meme?
About a week ago there was an awesome YouMoz post entitled How To Use Memes to Build EASY Backlinks & Traffic. I was so inspired by this post to come up with something awesome. I have been thinking long and hard about it ever since then, even browsing meme sites, and I'm coming up with NOTHING. Our company, stadriemblems.com designs and supplies custom embroidered patches for uniforms, events, and things of that nature. I know that I know the niche the best, but I'm not good at funny. So maybe someone who's good at funny can come up with something without having to know all the ins and outs of the niche. I'd so greatly appreciate some suggestions. I'll give everyone who tries a thumps-up, even if it's not good!
