Why does http://www.southernhearth.com rank so well for patio furniture and outdoor furniture?
-
I was looking at the competitiveness of ranking for the keywords "patio furniture" & "outdoor furniture" and was shocked to see www.southernhearth.com ranking so well. While I am just getting into the research, I was unable to see anything that would justify it's rank. What are your thoughts?
-
Thankfully, I am smart enough to make sure I am not getting local or personalized results but because of your comment I took a closer look and noticed as you did they do not seem to rank but for whatever reason SEO Moz when using the Keyword Difficulty took ranks them at #4, obviously a glich with the system.
Thanks for looking into this and I will send SEOmoz a note but they likely already are working on it.

sorry forgot i read the keywords.
I lookled in the US google index and they did not come up inthe top 100 for patio furniture.
Are you loged into google when you do your searches, is web history enbaled?
-
As noted in the details the keywords I was referring to were "patio furniture" and "outdoor furniture" and why don't I think they should rank wow let me explain.
They aren't focused on either keyword in the title tag of the ranking page, their domain and page authority are much, much lower than the other websites listed on the first page.
Their incoming links aren't from high authority pages nor contain exact match keyword anchor text to the keywords they rank for.
I can go on and on Alan but the question wasn't what my evaluation of the site is, I was just curious if anyone else could give me insight to why they think this website was ranking for such competitive keywords with what I would call an average website.

I guess the question is why would you think they would not?
What keywords?

Microsite and main website alternate in rankings
Hi all, I just noticed a potential issue with our websites. We have two ecommerce websites, one is a very large one selling all sorts of products, while the microsite focuses on a small segment of products. All products sold on the microsite are also sold on the main website. In the beginning of September, we upgraded the microsite to the same script that the main website uses to make it mobile friendly and update the design. They now look very similar. Before, both websites used to rank on page 1 for a specific keyword. I have noticed that since we upgraded the microsite, the two websites have been taking turns ranking for the keyword. For a few weeks the microsite ranks and the main website doesn't rank for the keyword. Then for a few weeks only the main website ranks and the microsite doesn't. I think the reason this is happening is that Google understands that the content is the same and the websites are both owned by the same company. Fair enough. I remember reading an article about this phenomenon before but can't remember where. Does anyone know which article I'm talking about (it would have been on an SEO blog/website, e.g. Moz, SEJ, SE Roundtable etc)? I'm not even sure what this phenomenon is called. If we can only have one of the pages rank, we would prefer it to be the microsite at all times. Would a canonical tag on the main website referring to the URL on the microsite fix this? I think at the moment the product descriptions are either very similar or identical. Would it help to make them more different to get both to rank again if that is what we wanted to do? In the end it is still the same product being sold by the same company - after Google has already sort of merged the two, would they "un-merge" them if the content was more different? Thanks in advance!

Ranking for a word when your image is showing up as #2?
I'm trying to rank for several specific words in my industry. I've noticed that many of the pages I'm trying to rank for the specific words, the main image of the page is being ranked. So my question is should I still try to rank my page even though the image is ranking as the first image displayed in the google results. Will this count against me by Google if I do? Or should I try to make the image being ranked more enticing for google searchers to try to increase traffic? Right now the images are not generating many clicks.

Using keywords in my URL: Doing a redirect to /keyword
My website in "On Page Grade" received an A.Anyway, I only have 1 thing to optimize:_"Use Keywords in your URL__Using your targeted keywords in the URL string adds relevancy to your page for search engine rankings, assists potential visitors identify the topic of your page from the URL, and provides SEO value when used as the anchor text of referring links."_My website is ranking in top10 for a super high competitive keyword and all my others competitors have the keyword on their domain, but not for my URL.Since I can't change my domain for fixing this suggestion, I would like to know what do you think about doing a 301 redirect from / to mydomainname.com/keyword/So the index of my website would be the /keyword.I don't know if this can make a damage to my SERP for the big change ir it would be a great choice.

N/A For On-page SEO Report
I have 8 errors and 44 warnings last week. Over the week, I corrected broken links, duplicate titles, meta tags, and duplicate page content. Now after it was run again, I'm getting an N/A. Does N/A mean there are NO errors at all on the site? I didn't fix all of the errors and warnings but most I did. My website is also up and running. Please let me know if I'm missing something or if I did that good of a job for my client's on-page SEO stuff, which I doubt despite moving the needle forward. Thanks

Page Rank Drop
Just trying to get more feedback - so we recently edited title and meta descriptions for existing website SEO and we've noticed in the past several weeks, our client's website has dropped out of the top 50 in a variety of terms we were targeting that they used to show up for (note: when updating SEO, we DID NOT remove any relevant terms we were targeting). When the website does come up in searches, it is the old meta description and title. So far, the feedback we've gotten is that first, it takes Google a few weeks to recrawl and index - however, we are now on week 3 after the changes and still no rebound in rankings. We were also told to check with the SEO Moz page grader to be sure the keywords were being optimized correctly - got As and Bs for the test terms I tried. We also submitted an XML site map to speed up the crawl process as another user suggested. We've tested the site with various tools to make sure there are redirect errors, etc. and everything looks fine. Again, it's now been 3+ weeks and no ranking rebound. Any other suggestions on what could be happening?
