Wordpress hacked. Entire content wiped out
-
Someone hacked my Wordpress site, wiped out all my content and changed my login status to a subscriber. Years of hard work gone, I can't log in to fix anything. Is there anything I can do. Is there a way to prevent this from happening ever again. Is there a way to catch these people?
-
It's good to see this is sorted - another option is to check Google's cache for anything else that's missing. It's saved me on a couple of occasions!
-
Just wanted to add on. If you have cpanel access where you could get to phpmyadmin you could change the pass or user type. or even create a new admin to regain control. this is useful when you forget a pass and no longer have email access or something
-
Make sure you UPDATE your database settings, and change all of your passwords. Also, UPDATE YOUR WEBSITE! I'm glad you got this fixed.
-
Thanks my hosting company fixed everything! Big thanks to EGOL and Joseph

Right... good info.
-
yea if you goto her profile you will see her site. I see what's going on. She owns the domain. Call hostgator - you own the hosting so they backup. Hurry before they "override it" with a newer version.
-
I agree with Joseph... just adding a few more comments...
If your wordpress site was on your own domain and you still have control over the DNS then you can simply open a new hosting account and switch the DNS.
If your site was on your own domain you can get backups from the host for a fee.. or your host might be willing to reissue a new account and then the DNS switch might not be needed.
If your site was on a wordpress domain then you can go to archive.org to recover all but the most recent content.

Many hosts back up stuff like this.. I would reach out to them. You still the domain? Is this is a shared host? I imagine so.. Contact them right now and they will restore a backup then UPGRADE your wordpress to the latest version. change the database user and password, change all of your passwords.
It looks like hostgator is hosting your site. they do weekly/monthly backups I think.
**If you need me to upgrade your site for freee I will do it for you. **

Images & Duplicate Content Issues
Here's a scenario for you: The site is running WordPress and the images are uploaded to the media section. You can set image attributes there such as the Description & Alt Tag. Let's say you'd like to reuse the same image in two different blog posts. The image keeps the same Description & Alt Tag associated with it in the media section. Would this be considered duplicate content? What would be the best practice in this case to reuse the same image in multiple posts?

2 months ago, I publish a NEW blog, http://www.mervrating.org The blog has only 3 posts. I don't have much time to work on it. Does it HURT my SEO? Can I start working on it on regular basis and try to built authority or does it looks "dead" to search engine? I would like to bring it alive and give it a second chance, will it be hard if it has no content since the beginning? What is your opinions? Thank you, BigBlaze

Stolen Content and a Panda Penalty
Hey Folks Question for those folks that have spent some time helping people with the recent penalties and the like. I have a client who has a clear Panda Penalty, huge drop in traffic on the initial Panda date and a further drop on the second date. Much smaller incremental drops on subsequent recent updates as well. From digging in it seems fairly cut and dry - copyscape shows another 250 or so sites with content from this site and there are nearly 2000 external URLs with duplicate content across these sites. We are talking complete, shameless copies of all of the text, sometimes the images as well. The client claims the content is all 100% unique and is his content and that the other blogs must have stolen his content resulting in the penalty - which, if it is true, and I have no reason to suspect otherwise, kind of sucks. Now, many moons ago, way before Penguin or Panda (maybe around 2006) I had a client that had suddenly lost all traffic and their historical rankings. No funny business, it was a small company, had been online since around 2000 and they were pretty much the first of their kind and always did very well from organic search. As it turned out, the content from the site had not really changed since it was set up and as lots of companies had sprung up offering a similar service they had seen their content copied wholesale, across many sites, all over the world. We attempted to contact many of these sites and got some results but many were just old, abandoned copy cat sites on advert supported hosting that had ceased to trade so we maybe got rid of about 20%. Well, in the end we just decided to rewrite the content, we did this and sure enough, the site bounced back to it's previous standing and has been pretty much there ever since. Now that was kind of easy, the site had maybe 20 pages, and it needed a sprucing up but in this case the site has around 500 pages so doing a rewrite is not going to be so easy. Problem is, I don't see removal requests being particularly successful either. So, I see the options and steps as being. Contact all the sites and request the removal of the content use the Google content removal facility:Â

Interestingly enough, this is a sensitive one, so no URL but I would welcome any thoughts or experiences any of you may have had with similar problems. There is a little extra info here from Matt Cutts + Barry Schwartz that kind of tallies with my approach above but would really like to hear any feedback. http://www.seroundtable.com/google-stolen-content-13243.html Cheers all Marcus0 -
Does this count as Copied Content ?
Hi, we are publishing news on our website blog. In the news we use excerpts from other websites but do mention the source like "according to XYZ news source" etc. Does it count as copied content as sometime copyscape shows alsmot 30% duplicated content due to inclusion of references from different sources in our news stories ? Deleting a Wordpress Blog Page with no inbound links?
What are the concerns I should have in deleting a WordPress Page that is no longer relevant or a duplicate? Note: This would be a page that does not have any inbound links to it.

Where in my wordpress admin panel do I add the .
Having read Rand's post about the canonical tag I very much wish to use it to advise Google that the duplicates created during archiving (due to the fact that the posts have multiple categories) are just copies. I understand the theory, but can't transfer it into practice! Could someone give me an idiots guide as to how to add the tag and to where. My site produces approx 10 - 20 blog posts per week. Each has at least 2-4 categories applied to it. They are archived each month, at which point I have a big jump in duplicates in my campaign panel. Help! C:\Users\Catherine\Desktop\me_small.gif
