Can someone explain a few hopefully simple questions for me please
-
Hi everyone
First off for local seraches I rank very well pretty much all on first page and high up too. I am also attempting to rank well for the search term 'independent mortgage advice'
I currently rank third on page 2 for the above search term. I am happy with this progress as the site is only 3 months old.
I am UK based, have a .co.uk domain and although my site server is located in Germany (1and1) I have changed the geographical location in webmaster tools.
My competitive domain analysis gives me the follwing results:
- Domain Authority: 14
- Domain MozRank: 2.44
- Total Links: 110
- Ext. Followed Links: 19
- Linking root Domains: 13
- Followed Linking Root Domains:9
- Linking C-Blocks: 8
Compared to my competitors around me these figures are terrible so why am I doing relatively well and how can I increase some of these figures such as Domain Authority & Domain Mozrank?
The page I'm referring to is http://www.keystonemortgages.co.uk
I am a novice so please don't mind calling me a numpty if it appears obvious to you
Jason
PS is it frowned upon to post links with title keywords here?

You have a few link juice leaks though unessasary 301 redirects, every 301 leaks link juice so if you dont need then youy should avoid.
take this redirect
The link to "http://www.keystonemortgages.co.uk/blog" has resulted in HTTP redirection to "http://www.keystonemortgages.co.uk/blog/".
you have added a "/" using a 301, but why not link directly to the final url in the first place and stop the leak.
here is another
The link to "http://www.keystonemortgages.co.uk/images/blacktriangle.gif" has resulted in HTTP redirection to "http://www.keystonemortgages.co.uk/images/BlackTriangle.gif".you see the diff in capitalization, you need to link directly to the final url again. if i was you i would 301 all urls to lowercase, the it is easy to remember how to write them when making links, others will also generaly link to you using lowere case
You have 78 cases like this.
You also have a few missing descriptions and some non-relevent link text, "more" , never waste link text, get a keyword in there.email me i will send you a list of the errors i spoted.

Just a personal thing but for me you have tried to target too many keywords on the page therefore your title has gone over the 'limit' which could effect your CTR.
I would target your main keyword on the home page 'independent mortgage advice' then target the local stuff on individual pages. One page to target Ipswich, one page to target Suffolk etc and make the content really bespoke to the area (local client testimonials etc).

Hey thanks for the response opt - you mentioned the on page seo has been done fairly well are there any obvious things you think that I have missed out on.
I'll start to read through the beginners guide this afternoon thanks for the link.

Hi Jason,
It looks like you are doing your on page stuff fairly well.
The next stage, which relates to your question on domain and page authority is to do with link building. As you have said you only have 19 external links (followed) to your site, this would suggest why your authority ranks are low.
Try having a read of this to understand the importance of links and some link building strategies - http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo/growing-popularity-and-links

Using Brand value for SEO: Can we use keyword with brand name?
Hi Moz community, I am curious to know this. Let's say there is a brand value for a company. It has it's own popularity that it's been mentioned across the internet and social media directly with brand name without their service or industry keyword. Now if the company started promoting themselves like keyword along with their brand name, will it help them to rank for that keyword. For example, Moz is already famous, now they want to rank for "SEO" and related keywords, so they started calling themselves on internet "Moz SEO"; will this fetch them in ranking for keyword SEO? My ultimate question is, using primary keyword along with brand name will work out in ranking for that primary keyword or not? Thanks

Am I hit by an update????? Please help
Hello. Is possible to have just a page or two penalized?? From 24th april ( around that date i heard was an update) two of my pages ( out of 37) do not rank for their main keywords but are indexed. Also, lately a lot of my pages drop out of top 100 and get back on their position. Any help? Am I in trouble? Anyone has the same problem?

Weekly traffic from Google: How do you explain this?
Hello here, I have question for you. Please, have a look at the attached image from my website analytics which shows the unique visits trend of the last 2 months. What it is interesting is that every Monday Google brings me more traffic than any other day of the week, whereas on Saturdays it gives me the lowest traffic. And looks like that's a pretty regular weekly pattern. Why is Google doing that? What does that mean? Why such a clear and steady pattern? I am eager to know your thoughts about this! CGuULrN.jpg

VRL Parameters Question - Exclude? or use a Canonical Tag?
I'm trying to figure something out, as I just finished my "new look" to an old website. It uses a custom built shopping cart, and the system worked pretty well until about a year when ranking went down. My primary traffic used to come from top level Brand pages. Each brand gets sorted by the shopping cart and a Parameter extension is added... So customers can click Page 1 , Page 2 , Page 3 etc. So for example : http://www.xyz.com/brand.html , http://www.xyz.com/brand.html?page=1 , http://www.xyz.com/brand.html?page=2 and so on... The page= is dynamic, therefore the page title, meta's, etc are the same, however the products displayed are different. I don't want to exclude the parameter page= completely, as the products are different on each page and obviously I would want the products to be indexed. However, at the same time my concern is that have these parameters might be causing some confusion an hence why I noticed a drop in google rankings. I also want to note - with my market, its not needed to break these pages up to target more specific keywords. Maybe using something like this would be the appropriate measure?

Lost over 65% of organic visits since Sept - Please help
Hi all, I'm fairly new to SEOmoz, i am here because i dont seem to be getting any actuall help from my SEO company, so am trying to figure this out myself. I have done a quick analysis using google analytics and have gone from 13441 google organic visitors in Sept to 4527 google organic visitors in March. (see attached image GA Sept - March) Visitor numbers seems be to fairly stable in sept, oct, nov, and perhaps a slight decline in Dec, but then on Jan17th seems a big drop, and i have never recovered... (See images GA - Oct, GA - Nov, GA - Dec and GA - Jan ) I am at a bit of a loss, i have heard about google penalties, but there are no warnings in my webmaster tools about this, the only warning i ever got was a message on Dec 24th which read : http://XXX.co.uk/: Big traffic change for top URL Search results clicks for (my site) have decreased significantly. The number of clicks that your site receives from Google can change from day to day for a variety of factors, including automatic algorithm updates. However, if you have recently made significant changes to the content or configuration of your site, this change may be an indication that there are problems. This is not a penalty notice is it? its simply google telling me i have lost a lot of traffic? Strange thing is December's traffic was pretty much fine, so do not understand why i got this message, when the drop in traffic happened a month later. I've been racking my brain for months trying to fix every little possible issue i can find with my site (its not nice, when you do not actually know what google has decided it doesn't like about your site!) but nothing seems to be helping, i've been hiring content writter's as i found loads of websites have copied a lot of content, i also decided maybe the product descriptions are being classed as duplicate so again have got in content writter's to re-write hundreds of product descriptions (all this is costing me an arm and a leg)... Nada! Then today, when doing this google analysis (see image GA Sept - March) i noticed two sites, i have renamed them on the image to: XXX-1.co.uk & XXX-2.ecomm-search.com XXX-1.co.uk was a test server where i could play around with code on my website before i actually implement changes, usually i delete all the files after i use it... but it looks like i forgot to do that.... the site is a complete copy of my website (but obviously a version where you can not actually process an order) but all the pages still have canonical links back to the proper website... Just in case this was causing issues, i have 301 redirected the site back to my main site... Is this wise? or should i just delete the site? XXX-2.ecomm-search.com is a search company i was trialing as i wanted to improve the search functionality on my own site, however the search features are hosted on their site... I was told it has no bearing on SEO as its not indexed... however if google is seeing refferalls coming from that site, which is basically a duplicate of my search pages but with better functionality, could they be considering this a duplicate content issue? If anybody can give me any advice at all about above questions, or in general about what happened on Jan 17th (as i see from web search's many people were affected but i can not seem to find people who actually know what google did) i would be very grateful. Thanks James iNiKRDq jd6FJ3l RzaqTEy 8KCtykz 2m2OGvG
