Is Disqus SEO friendly?
-
I like the look of Disqus for handling comments but I'm not sure if it is really SEO friendly. Any other more SEO friendly alternatives out there (other than blogging software)?
-
I recently wrote to Disqus to ask how I could make comments on my site indexable. There is an API that you can use and you can set up a mysql database to store comments on your site. However, it's not straightforward. I want to figure it out, but for now I'm waiting for someone else to do the work for me.
However, if you have Disqus on a Wordpress blog then the comments are stored in your database and they are part of your site and as such are indexable and searchable.
I would disagree with the statement that comments are not helpful for SEO purposes. I get a number of searches that were delivered to my site because of content in the comments section.

I believe the standard version of Disqus is not SEO friendly yet the version SE Roundtable has made is a good way to fix the issues, same with with Facebook comments they are not SEO freidnly yet you can hack them up to make them SEO freindly.
Furthermore I disagree with William comments can be a great source of extra content I mean take a look at the blog we are on here SEOmoz, the content adds to the page count like crazy Some posts have 100 x 100-200 character posts, some are a few words.

Hi William,
Thanks for the reply. As far as I can see comments only come out in HTML if you use their plugin in Wordpress (possibly other blogging software too). If you are not using blogging software the results are in javascript and hence probably not very SEO friendly. That said, I have seen possible suggestions of ways of making Disqus comments indexable using data synchronization.
Facebook comments are definitely another option.

Can you explain what you mean by SEO friendly? I think I might be confused.
Disqus comments are searchable. The comments are really hidden behind an iFrame or anything, they actually come out in regular HTML. Similar to your regular comments.
But as far as comments go, you may get some Longtail Search results, but comments typically aren't a huge source of targeted keyword traffic.
What they are great at is developing a sense of community and sharing which could help your traffic to the site. And depending on the nature of your site, Facebook Comments are great at leveraging an already connected user base to the content that you have on your blog.
i incorporated Facebook Comments on the Flaunt Your Site blog, and when someone comments, I notice a big bump in traffic immediately afterwards.I hope I took the right direction for your question, but if you provide what it is you want to achieve, I can do a better job.

CSS background image links bad for seo?
On one of the websites I manage SEO for, the developers are changing how our graphical links are coded. They're basically coding in such away where there is no anchor text and no alt tag, so for example: So there's no anchor nor alt context for Google's crawler. How badly will this affect SEO, or is it extremely minimal and I shouldn't worry about? Thanks in advance.

Global Product Tabs and SEO
I am looking at a site that has global or duplicated content in 4 tabs for things like shipping, quality etc on tabs on each product page. The content is very good for UX and helps conversions but poor for SEO. Each product page has unique and tagged photos, unique title and a unique description. Is there away to specifically tell search engines that individual parts of a page are duplicated for good reason? Linking to the content to a single page decreases conversion dramatically but having it on tabs could effect ranking and quality as it is duplicated. Can anyone offer any advice with this?

Redirection Impact on SEO
Need help urgently. There is the situation [This is how is it working now]: 1. Have a global landing page [say when user types in www.mysite.com - takes user to the global landing page: [www.mysite.com/global/en.html]](http://www.mysite.com/global/en.html] ) 2. Users from this landing page can select a country on his/her choice and get redirected say: [www.mysite.com/us/en.html] Would like to change the functionality as below: 1. When user types in www.mysite.com 1a. Would find the location of the request based on GEO IP and if the request is coming from North America region then would redirect the users to: www.mysite.com/us/en.html 1b. If the request is from any other location/region then it would continue to work as it is currently working: take the user to the global landing page: www.mysite.com/global/en.html Would this change have any negative impact or not found by search engines from SEO perspective? If it does then what are the impacts and if does not then why not. If it does then what is the best possible way to address this request. Appriciate your help. Thanks, Koushik Roy

Differences in Sitemaps SEO wise?
I'm a bit confused about sitemaps. I'm just learning SEO so forgive me if this is a basic question. I've submitted my site to google webmaster using http://pro-sitemaps.com and the sitemap generator it creates. I've also seen sites do this: http://www.johnlewis.com/Shopping/ProductList.aspx and http://www.thesafestcandles.com/site-map.html so I did something similar for my site (www.ldnwicklesscandles.com). You figure you see everyone do it you might as well try it too and hope it works. 😉 So I've done both 1 and 2. Which sitemap is best for SEO purposes or should I do both? Is there any format that should or shouldn't be used for Option 2? Any site examples for good practice would be helpful.

Domain redirect seo
Hello, my domain www.pacomarca.com and when i start the new campaing i get this pronblem: We have detected that the domain www.pacomarca.com and the domain pacomarca.com both respond to web requests and do not redirect. Having two "twin" domains that both resolve forces them to battle for SERP positions, making your SEO efforts less effective. We suggest redirecting one, then entering the other here. my domain is in networksolutions.com. how can i resolve it? many thanks Gonzalo

Is there SEO value in having images referenced on other sites?
We use Amazon to host our assets (images, videos, PDFs, etc). These assets can be used across multiple sites we own and we reference them appropriately via our CMS. example asset URL: https://s3.amazonaws.com/lawgical/assets/data/539/original.png We have an infographic we recently distributed that is hosted on Amazon. Obviously we want any link value to go back to our primary URL where we laid out the infographic, however some of the infographic sites are just referencing the above source image URL. Are we losing SEO / link value by not have the infographic hosted on our domain? Do search engines count these image references as a "link"? For your reference... Solving Printer Friendly version
How do we solve an issue faced on the Printer Friendly version of the page lets say, There is an Actual Page (Page A) and a Printer friendly version (Page B) of Page A. Page A is ranking at position 5 and Page B is not ranking. Both these pages are indexed by Google and most of the backlinks are going to Page B as compared to Page A. one of the ways is to implement Canonical on Page B. Are there some other ways to solve the issue and how can we implement it? How can ensure that all the links going to page B pass on the link value to Page A.

How does a mega drop-down affects SEO?
We are looking at implementing a "mega drop-down" as our main menu on our website. Will that be good or bad for SEO? My company is a big tour operator so our website contains a lot of pages describing all our destinations, hotels etc. We have noticed that our visitors have some trouble to navigate to all this pages since it requires a lot of clicks to reach a specific page. In order to make this easier we have looked at this popular mega drop-down thing that we all love. But what about Google? Will Google love or hate us for doing this? An example showing what I mean by mega drop-down: http://www.phonehouse.se/
