How do you keep a record of your onsite SEO changes
-
Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the whole SEO process, so was wondering if anyone can help me.
I want to keep a record of all SEO activities in one place for the website i'm trying to optimise for.
I have created an excel sheet which have the follwoing tabs
-Overview & Rankings
- Keyword Research- Competitior Analysis
- Keyword Distribution Map - Onpage SEO
- Link Ideas
- Link Research
-Link Building Log
- PPC Campaign
Does this all seem correct?
Could anyone help in telling me what process you do to keep a record of all SEO onsite activity?I hope this isn't a stupid post, but help would be very much appreciated
Many Thanks
Matt

We use excel. It's a bit old school, even though I have an Access certification and could prob dev something sexier. It's easier for sharing with clients and no training is needed. It's easy to let it get overwhelming, so we oly keep the key metrics that matter. On page updates, link building activity, and ranking results. It's let's us see enough info over time for us and our clients. Also is a good place to store all those passwords!

I think that an SEO log should look like a log for a science experiment....
I did xxx because I thought it would result in yyyy. Two weeks later here is what happened. Four weeks later here is what happened.
The main value of an SEO log is to learn from the changes that you make on your site and how those changes influenced your rankings, conversion rate, etc.

I use Excel as well. However, I try not to keep all the elements in one excel file.
I have a file for rankings another for link building etc. It's way simpler and it doesn't take 1 minute to save the file.
Having just one file can be somewhat confusing. Moreover if you loose your file, you loose eerything.

Just like Alan,
I use excel but it also gets a bit hard over tome with rows and rows of data being collected.
I ike to keep each section tabbed and this allows me to track things far easier.
Old school rocks

Hi Matt
I used to use Excel, but it can get out of hand over time. Personally, I prefer a project management system, such as Basecamp. You can set up milestone actions with a date of delivery, that becomes the date of record of completion. You can add to-do lists, files, notes, messages all tied to the milestone. Everything is then stored and can be archived for future retrieval.
It's not perfect, (no solution I've ever used is perfect), but it's much more organized and manageable than Excel, unless you are really skilled at Excel and have the patience and willingness to deal with it when it's got years worth of data.

Technical : Duplicate content and domain name change
Hi guys, So, this is a tricky one. My server team just made quite a big mistake :We are a big We are a big magento ecommerce website, selling well, with about 6000 products. And we are about to change our domaine name for administrative reasons. Let's call the current site : current.com and the future one : future.com Right, here is the issue Connecting to the search console, I saw future.com sending 11.000 links to current.com. At the same time DA was hit by 7 points. I realized future.com was uncorrectly redirected and showed a duplicated site or current.com. We corrected this, and future.com now shows a landing page until we make the domain name change. I was wondering what is the best way to avoid the penalty now and what can be the consequences when changing domain name. Should I set an alias on search console or something ? Thanks

301 redirects for 3 top level domains using WP SEO Yoast
Hey Guys I have a custom built website - and a wp blog attached to this - problem is there are 3 top level domains: zenory.co.nz, zenory.com and zenory.com.au **The issue is when I enter the domain to 301 redirect I only have to enter one domain usually i enter redirect from zenory.com/blog/oldpage to zenory.com.newpage ** For eg: I have just move Phone Psychic Readings from the blog - over to the main site. However there seems to be an issue that I'm still having and trying to clean up. I'm finding backlinks there are linking to each other of my 3 domains that end up backlinking across domains, which I was told this can look as spammy to google. For eg: co.nz links many pages to com.au. I'm currently trying to clean this up at the moment - however while im in the process of this - I find myself question when I'm creating the 301 redirects from the blog - but lets say I'm on the blog for zenoy.co.nz/blog/oldblogpost and when I click on a blog post - it redirects me to zenory.com/newarticlepost - because I have redirected it to .com - how can I redirect and make sure is going back to the right domain name to save myself from having to show this cross backlinks? Would gratefully appreciate any assistance on this tricky situation. Cheers Just

I'm changing title tags and meta tags, url, will i loose my ranking?
Hi Guys QUESTION: I'm currently going through a re-design for my new website that was published in November 2014 - since launching we found there were many things we needed to change, our pages were content thin being one of the biggest. I had industry experts that came in and made comments on the title tags lacking relevance for eg: our title tag for our home page is currently "Psychic Advice" most ideal customers don't search "Psychic Advice" they search more like "Online Psychic Reading" or Psychic Readings" I noticed alot of my competitors also were using title tags such as Online Psychic Readings, Free Psychic Readings etc so it brings me to my question of "changing the title tags around. The issue is, im ranking for two keywords in my industry, online psychics and online psychic readings in NZ. 1. Our home page and category pages are content thin.... so hoping that adding the changes will create perhaps some consistency also with the added unique and quality content. Here is the current website: zenory. co.nz and the new one is www.ew-zenory.herokuapp.com which is currently in development I have 3 top level domains com, com.au, and co.nz Is there anyone that can give me an idea if I were to change my home page title tag to **ZENORY | Online Psychic Readings | Live Psychic Phone and Chat ** If this will push my rankings down though this page will have alot more valuable content etc? For obvious reasons im going to guess it will make drop, I'm wondering though if it is worth changing the title tags and meta descriptions around or leaving it as is if its already doing well? How much of a difference do title tags and meta descriptions really make? Any insight into this would be great! Thanks

How do you remove unwanted links, built by your previous SEO company?
We dropped significantly (from page 1 for 4 keywords...to ranking over 75 for all) after the Penguin update. I understand trustworthy content and links (along with site structure) are the big reasons for staying strong through the update...and those sites that did these things wrong were penalized. In efforts to gain Google's trust again, we are checking into our site structure and making sure to produce fresh and relevant content on our site and social media channels on a weekly basis. But how do we remove links that were built by our SEO company, those of which could be untrustworthy/irrelevant sites with low site rankings? Try to email the webmaster of that site (using data from Open Site Explorer)?
