Ok that is interesting!
So the next question is how are Google determining who owns which website? Are they using who is data? Or something else altogether?
Thankyou for the above points.
I think it's worth pointing out that our keywords are Niche, so although there are a lot of competitors we currently are the mojor brand representing our service.
What we are looking to do here is create new websites, each branded individually offering the same service.
Yes we may be cutting down a consumers choice in reality, but is that an issue when our business core is to offer the best service possible?
I understand that morally this is a grey area. BUT. Has anyone actually attempted or done this with individual sites rather than other methods.
Thanks,
Hey guys,
I tried to search across the q&a for an answer but came up with nothing for this.
I'm competing well for our keyword rankings with 20 keywords, 13 of which on the first page and 9 in the top 3. Which is great!
But what we are interested in doing is taking over the rankings. Currently competitors reside around us in the serps taking up the remainder of traffic.
We are considering creating new websites and competing on the same keywords to rank and eventually take over the google rankings for our products. So that if you were to look to buy 'purple buttons' the top 5 websites sell these but are owned by ourselves.
The question is. Has anyone else done this? What are googles views? Are there any traps that we could run into?
As far as I see it the only real issues we could run into are with google on a moral basis.
Thoughts?
Thanks Andy!
I will look to implement those changes!
Does anyone else have any suggestions?
Thanks for responding Andy.
The benefit of joing the list is that they subscribe to the guestlist of the club they choose for their chosen date. WIth instant response via text and email, with a follow up call within the hour.
Plus it does also give them access to our weekly newsletter which covers celebrity gossip emailed to them weekly.
Are you describing the 'Join Guestlist' buttons in Pink? If so are you suggesting I make these larger?
Yes I agree listing the benefits of joining the guestlist should be listed on the advert where the girls face is.
Hey all,
As always thanks in advance to any help given.
So I think we haven't done a bad job, but I know there is always more that can be done with conversions.
We have a website which provides guestlist to clubs in London, we are competitive on our keywords and ppc and get the clicks through with very very relevant adverts and meta descriptions....
The questions is 'How do I improve our conversion rate on page?'
The said pages are setup like the examples below:
www.capitalalist.com/movida-guestlist/
www.capitalalist.com/chinawhite-guestlist/
www.capitalalist.com/mahiki-guestlist/
The conversion comes when the click 'join guestlist' and fill out the form.
Any help with be GREATLY appreciated!
Has anyone had any experience submitting to DMOZ and waiting times.
The category i've submitted to has only a few links (http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/London/Westminster/Arts_and_Entertainment/)
Yet I submitted the site (www.capitalalist.com) over a month ago!
Can anyone give examples of waiting times, or a way to perhaps get some feedback from DMOZ?
Thanks in advance as always...
That's great Brett, thanks for the idea. We will certainly look into this. Does anyone else have any tips on how to get more interaction going with your facebook friends?
This is a messy way of doing it in my opinion and will cause you plenty of cross browser issues. But... You can create a background image for the overall div then create a new div inside of it for the like button and use z-index to float it above and simply use margin-left and margin-top to position it. Problem solved If stuck use a css/html forum to ask about the specific code.
OK. Embedding the button into a graphic cant happen.
This all ties into the facebook graph API and is a plugin specifically created at facebooks side to be standard across the board.
Sorry buddy. But no can do.
Work out a way to put the like button where it will be noticed.
Our site: www.capitalalist.com throws it at the bottom of every page.
You mean a popup?
If so I would strongly advise against it. You will find that a) Google hates popups, and b) your bounce rate will increase.
Or do you mean you want to put it at the head of your page?
Please provide a link so we can see exactly what you are talking about with a description on where you want it to sit on the page.
Use this and inject the code into your site!
Hi all,
It's become more apparent to us all going forward after the panda update that social signals are becoming more and more important in regards to SERPS.
Our website is www.capitalalist.com and is gaining a decent amount of traffic from Twitter. www.capitalalist.com/twitter and we have managed to work out what works for us on twitter and what doesnt allowing us to interact with our followers more and more.
The problem is facebook. Direct marketing doesn't work here. Our page is www.facebook.com/capitalalist but we are struggling to get any traffic or interaction with our friends.
Any advice on how to market properly for facebook for seo purposes?
Thanks in advance.
Wordpress has an excellent xml sitemap plugin that automatically creates and submits the site map to google, yahoo and bing, letting them know what to crawl! Not sure if we are allowed to post links? Apologies to admin if not. But here is the plugin... http://www.arnebrachhold.de/projects/wordpress-plugins/google-xml-sitemaps-generator/
The more quality links you have the better! There is no limit. Just make sure the links are targeted to your niche, and relevant!
I find it infuriating that spammers are still able to get their hands on exact match domain names and leave the actual brand sites who exist within the niche looking for business rather than click throughs suffer in the SERPs! Will Google eventually phase this out?
Yes. Typically all of your google tools are stored under one roof, which means anyone who has your email address and password to access your analytics can see your emails, documents, and any other google services you use.
Its wort checking out the webcast made back in the summer called something like 'successful link building'. The overall message was the classic link building is dead and that social media signals and great content will do your work for you. Have a look at the video and all becomes clear.
Am I missing something here or does SEO Moz only support three competitor sites to do comparisons against in each campaign? If not where do I add another website to the list to compare against? Thanks in advance!
Here you go buddy.
Short answer is yes, but it will take 24 hours...

Personally I believe its best practice to have user friendly urls, rather than search generated ones. Google favours this and so do the users. It may be a lot more work to implement, but in my experience (having a site with a lot of categories and posts) it was well worth it.
I'm sure it will be worth it in the end. Just to make sure im not going to post to any directories ( apart from DMOZ ) until Rand and the team get back to us all!
Thanks Jassy.
Exactly what i was looking for.
Good stuff!
Seo Moz have kindly brought to my attention some canonicalization issues with my site.
Firstly I've adjust http://capitalalist.com to 301 redirect to http://www.capitalalist.com via htaccess.
But the crawl has shown for every page in my site the problem below:
http://www.capitalalist.com/cirque-du-soir
http://www.capitalalist.com/cirque-du-soir/
It's just that last / that's causing the problem. But I can't seem to see anyone having the same issue before.
BTW im using wordpress if that makes a difference.
Can anyone elaborate on the issue? How would i adjust my htaccess file to redirect a request with a / on the end of it?
Thanks in advance!
