Depending on the individual's Facebook profile security settings and their own engagement reach, if they like a page -- not your Facebook page -- it will show in their friends feed, but it's likely not going to be a crazy amount of promotion.

RE: Are links on a press page considered "reciprocal linking"?
It shouldn't matter at all. If you're worried the sites are low quality, you might consider no following, but press link pages are pretty common.

I'd also check out BuiltVisible's Schema Guide.

RE: Submitting pages to google to expidite them finding links to my site
We've also seen links posted in G+ getting crawled more quickly. Not fool proof or guaranteed (or something you should do with a ton of links), but certainly an easy thing for a one-off page you want crawled quickly.

RE: This question has been answered.
Great to hear that someone from your company can go!
We don't typically allow questions to be deleted. My best suggestion is to go and edit your original post to say that the ticket has been claimed. Thanks!

RE: This question has been answered.
Hi Patrick,
You also might try posting this on our MozCon Facebook Group. When you do figure out where the ticket is going, just email us at mozcon@moz.com & we'll make the name transfer.

RE: When the site explorer will recognise the new TLD?
Unfortunately, we don't have an ETA for recognizing the new TLDs. This is something we're working on. Sorry for the inconvenience.

RE: OSE Inbound Link Report Exports Returning Blank
We don't seem to be having any issues with this report. Have you tried running it again?
-
RE: Interlinking using Dynamic URLs Versus Static URLs
If you're just looking for tracking, just use standard utm tracking parameters in your interlinking. Tracking code will not mess up your rankings.

RE: Local SEO HELP for Franchise SAB Business
Yes, you can a/b test content copy blocks the same as testing which button. However, it will affect your on-page metrics most dramatically, not your rankings. (Which has some ranking signals.)
It sounds to me that your situation is more about convincing your team and higher ups the potential of different marketing methods compared to the current reality of what they're doing. And to look at some different metrics besides rankings. Check out this blog post from Avinash about the metrics to track instead of rankings for every business size.
A/b testing is definitely a great start to show what could work better. You can always create reports showing potential business that could come in based on those or what you actually wouldn't lose by taking some of those extra pages off your site.
Best of luck!

RE: Interlinking using Dynamic URLs Versus Static URLs
To answer your questions, no, it will not improve your rankings. No, it's unlikely to harm it either if implemented correctly.
But the better question is why? Why are you linking to pages in three different sections of your site on every page? What is that doing for the people who are using your site? How is that navigation helping them find what they need on your site? Are people clicking on this links? If so, where are they clicking on them from? If they never click on them from a certain part -- navigation, footer, and sidebar -- why are those links still there?

RE: Where is the best location for my primary keyword in my URL?
Primary keyword in that URL example from the Learn SEO section refers not to the most important keyword on your site or the most important topic on your site, but to the most important keyword on that specific page that the URL is pointing to. I believe that's where the confusion lies. Hope this helps.

Glad you like our timeline. Ours is definitely custom coded.

RE: Linkedin: Inshares - Can I see who inshared my content?
Unfortunately, I couldn't track down any tools that do this for you.

RE: Promoting several posts on FB increases the reach for all posts
That is interesting! At Moz, we haven't attributed or correlated any organic lifts in our Facebook views when we turn off promotion. While Facebook maintains that they don't bias views for people who pay for ads, I've seen others make similar comments. However, I haven't seen any good studies on this.

RE: Google Webmaster Warning for Non-mobile Optimized Pages
We got the same warning here at Moz in WMT. While responsive isn't affecting rankings yet, it's coming and Google's letting us know ahead of time. Additionally, if your competitors aren't mobile-optimized, this may be a great way to get a leg up on them.

RE: How i can lose likes (from facebook) on a category page
I've done Facebook ad campaigns and can definitely say that the likes don't go away when you turn them off.
You might try searching on the FB help community. You might be able to find someone having the same problem. (That's where I've been able to solve most of my FB problems.) There have definitely been times when FB's own reporting got screwed up, so it can be a check for that too.
-
RE: How i can lose likes (from facebook) on a category page
You can definitely lose likes a couple ways: users can unlike it OR people who liked it have deleted or otherwise had their profile deleted by Facebook itself. It's so few that it's likely some user cleanup on Facebook's end. I wouldn't sweat it.

RE: Company FB Page Automatically Friend-Requesting Admins' Contacts
Hrm...I haven't really heard of this happening without an admin sending out requests. You might followup with your fellow admins.
There are also apps that sometimes do this automatically for people. So you'll want to make sure that none of those are installed on the profile.

RE: Idea for new feature on Moz Q&A
I should be clear that we're still in research mode, so it may be a while still on the old platform, depending how other projects at Moz shake out. We all need time from our devs.

RE: Why is this SERP displaying an incorrect URL for my homepage?
While I'm not sure how sophisticated Google's algo is at picking this up, Google's people reviewers would probably note it as suspicious. Again I'd ask why? What business advantage does this give you? (Wil Reynolds has famously said that when something sounds fishy or not the best practice ask why 5 times.
In the Skype example, the why is language of the users. It's not spammy because it does something clear and obvious to help the user. Whereas your URL just looks like keyword stuffing.
-
RE: Why is this SERP displaying an incorrect URL for my homepage?
So that SERP is definitely picking up on language of IP/searcher and that's showing the English version for Skype's site, which is a bit different.

RE: Advice on improving ecommerce product detail pages to rank better in google search results.
Took a quick look at the page, and nothing majorly technical jumped out at me as preventing or hindering page rankings. I always suggest making sure your site's set up in Moz Analytics and looking at the crawl diagnostics, which show a lot of common technical problems. (If you haven't already, of course.) I did notice that on your example, the title tag is too long and Google truncates it.
For e-commerce, the big separator between leaders is content. The more you can create unique content about your products -- start with the most important ones -- the better off you will be. Make sure you have unique product descriptions. People love video. And people also love solutions or knowledge about how to use the product and what it will solve for them. You do a great job at listing the specs and features, but what's the value add? A quick look at the competition in the SERPs shows that your competitors, they aren't doing a good at this, and it would set you apart.
Additionally, I also noticed that your site in general has a pretty low domain authority, and the product page in question doesn't have any backlinks. These will definitely affect your rankings. Before jumping on building links, I highly suggest reading our beginner's guide to link building, which will walk you through the pros, cons, and best practices to build links as you don't want to get into trouble with Google over links.

RE: Idea for new feature on Moz Q&A
Hey Andy,
This is a great suggestion! We're deeply aware that our Q&A system has some not so friendly quirks. We're actually currently on the hunt for a new platform solution/backend to host our Q&A forum on, and we'll definitely add this to our list of features that we'd like to have.
Thanks for being an active Q&Aer. And sorry about any troubles and frustration.

RE: New pages on my web site
As Ryan mentioned, OSE is updated on a schedule. Our next update is scheduled for March 11th. We try to update it -- barring any technical difficulties -- at least once a month.

RE: Looking for a Link Building Strategy
Highly recommend against using lists like these. They are likely low-quality, bad, or spammy places to put links. This is exactly how sites get hit with Penguin penalties.
-
RE: Looking for a Link Building Strategy
We highly recommend against lists of sites to put links on. They are typically of bad or spammy quality. And Google gives out penalties for bad links.
Check out our entire Link Building guide from the great Paddy Moogan.

RE: Old / passed productpages
Definitely look at traffic and conversions, and start with those.
Also, re: affiliates, are the affiliates themselves complaining about 404s? Most any affiliate programs/management systems have the ability to shut off links. I assume they then inform affiliates to change links.
-
RE: Why is this SERP displaying an incorrect URL for my homepage?
I agree with Lynn about questioning the reasons to set up your homepage like that. It does look suspicious and keyword stuffing. EMDs have seen a huge decline in recent years with Google algo updates.

RE: Good or bad adding keywords in Pinterest description?
Addition to any concerns about Google, Pinterest has been making efforts in order to end keyword stuffing. They are working to surface more content to users based on what they're interest in and working on their search efforts. Keyword stuffed pins will get an algorithmic-style penalty in that Pinterest won't recommend them in either users' Pinterest home feed or in search. To my knowledge, they have not banned anyone for keyword stuffing, but I imagine at least making spam reporting easier on the platform will be coming soon. (At least that would be my guess.)

RE: How do you track keyword ranking in local google.com (India) search engine
Unfortunately, we cannot currently track local rankings in India. Right now, we're only covering the US, Canada, UK, and Australia. Sorry.
As the others mentioned, we can, however, track general, non-localized rankings for India.

RE: Can you use FB for Keyword Research?
You can use Facebook graph search to show if there's any interest in your keywords. There aren't many great how-to articles, especially since FB recently changed a bunch of things. However, I ran across this tumblr of actual FB graph searches, which while clearly meant to be tongue-in-cheek / funny, it shows a lot of different types of combinations of searches you can use.

RE: Going to Mozcon - what to do in Seattle
Hi Andy,
I've written pretty extensively about why we have MozCon in Seattle.
Additionally, if you're looking to see Mozzers speak, many of us travel abroad to do so. I know Jen's going to be at SPRINT Europe; I'm speaking at Brighton SEO; and Rand will be at SMX Milan, for just a start.
Thanks!
-
RE: Going to Mozcon - what to do in Seattle
We've put together several blog posts over the years to help MozCon attendees explore Seattle: Mozzers' favorites, our mega post from 2013, Rand's personal recommendations, and Jon Colman's Seattle coffee guide.

RE: How can we stop an article ranking so highly?
One thing you might consider doing is building some goodwill with people who are searching for that service and those who provide it. When Moz (then SEOmoz) decided to stop doing SEO consulting, we were still ranking really high for it and people thought that's what we did. Instead of just 404, we created our recommended companies page, which gave some goodwill and helped people out.

RE: Setting up 301 Redirects after acquisition?
I once worked for what could be described as a "holding company" that's in the Fortune 500. Because everything they owned was so diverse, they either kept separate branches or the companies/brands separate. Especially if the brand was worth money as a name. It's important to do the research on how valuable the brand itself is because even if you decide to have one company to rule them all, you need to figure out how to transition customers.
-
RE: Requesting a Link from a major newspaper
Everyone has great suggestions!
It's also important to look at how that publication does links and make sure that you aren't pushing them to do something they won't do for anyone. Recently, I was working with a publication that was happy to link to how-to or further information articles, but did not want to link directly to any brand mentions.
-
RE: Why put rel=canonical to the same url ?
Canonicals on every page is definitely the best practice.
As to the Moz mystery, probably whomever wrote the specs for that page forgot to include canonical tags. Even our SEO is far from perfect.

RE: Someone mentioned us on facebook and brought 10k clicks to homepage.. how do I find the content?
This will work if you have a unique title. However, Facebook will always show text from your friends posts first.
Don't forget to check your brand page mentions in the wall as someone might have tagged you. (If you have a brand page...)
You also might check somewhere like Reddit to see if people are sharing it there and if they mention where they found it.
-
RE: Someone mentioned us on facebook and brought 10k clicks to homepage.. how do I find the content?
Sadly, this is correct that Facebook doesn't pass anymore referral data.
This will get you posts that are public. YMMV on how many it returns since Facebook and Google don't play well together.

RE: Geotargeting on Home Page
Yes, you can do this. Usually, sites use some kind of marketing automation software on their site to do this, looking for IP. I haven't done this myself, so I can't speak to all the details. Typically, you'd have bots go to some "neutral" page.

RE: Blog Redirects & SEO
You do need to do some work to keep your numbers, particularly on blog posts. Mike King did a great how-to post a couple years back.

RE: Has anyone tried Captora? Curious about people's thoughts on potential benefits and risks for SEO.
Hi! So I reached out to some of our content people at Moz, and sadly, no one here has experience with Captora or was familiar with them or their work. I would say that any service which says that they'll auto-generate content for you is suspicious. Good, quality content takes time, thought, and crafting.
