I agree this is definitely the best way to do it. However, since you have set it up under your account, you do have the ability to add other accounts as admins and even transfer ownership to them. So you're not stuck! The link that Sebastian gave above, will walk you through the process of doing that.

RE: Multiple H1 tags are OK according to developer. I have my doubts. Please advise...
18 H1s definitely seems excessive, however in the grand scheme of things this would be a much lesser priority in my book than many other things. I mean if this is the biggest problem, then you're doing quite well. If you're wondering if the developer is doing the right things overall, that might be a different question. I just don't think that worrying about the H1s on the page is that big of a deal. I'd make sure the site is crawlable and all those other high priority things before I spent too much time on this.

RE: How to block "print" pages from indexing
Josh, please read my and Dr. Pete's comments below. Don't nofollow the links, but do use the meta noindex, follow on the page.
-
RE: Facebook like box error
I wonder if it's because it's set to only show the page to users in the United States?
-
RE: How to block "print" pages from indexing
True but using robots.txt does not keep them out of the index. Only using "noindex" will do that.
-
RE: Software for cheacking SEOmoz parametrs
Do you mean Open Site Explorer? Or are you looking for a site that shows OSE data for multiple URLs at once?
-
RE: How do I find out the total number of Google +1's my website has?
Whoa! You built an app that quick to help answer this question (and obviously get the information in general). That is so cool! I just tried the app, it's neat. Thanks for doing this!
-
RE: How to block "print" pages from indexing
Rather than using robots.txt I'd use a noindex, follow tag instead to the page. This code goes into the tag for each print page. And it will ensure that the pages don't get indexed but that the links are followed.

RE: Facebook like box error
Hi Bob,
This is interesting, the code you have there looks right and usually if you have the age set to 13+ it's not a problem. One thing, did you add the Javascript to your page? I'm assuming you used this page: http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like-box/ to create the box right? And selected the HTML5 option? If so, then also make sure the correct JavaScript was added right beneath the tag.
I did a little searching as well and found this post on stackoverflow that might help http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7268100/facebook-likebox-showing-fine-but-only-if-logged - although it sounds like you're doing it right.
Hopefully this helps!

Sadly it looks like there isn't an option to change the color. Maybe they're trying to compete with the Pinterest button.

RE: Do new Mozzers realise it takes effort to respond to their questions?
This is a great thread Alan! And not just for new Mozzers, but for everyone really. As you said this is a collaborative forum so please mark questions as answered, thumb up good answers and mark as "good answer" if it helped you!
The SEOmoz staff can't be everywhere and we count on the community to help each other out. We really appreciate all the contributions and I absolutely love hearing stories about people getting jobs through Q&A or gaining significant help, etc. Let's keep that stuff going!
Thanks again for bringing this up Alan, it's great to have the reminder. And Thanks to everyone for being so helpful!

RE: Using ReTweets for Outreach
Hmm I don't know, but can't you search for the URL? or search for some of the text in the URL? I'd definitely reach out to them, they have great customer service!
-
RE: Using ReTweets for Outreach
You can use http://rowfeeder.com for that! Depending how much you're going to need, it may even be free for you. You enter your search terms, then it creates a Google Spreadsheet for you with the Username, name, actual tweet, their home page (listed on their profile), location, followers, friends, and time of tweet. It will backfill as well as track going forward as well.
We use it all the time here at SEOmoz. Hope this helps!

RE: Facebook Places & Business Pages - Any way to consolidate
Hmm you're right, there definitely used to be a way to do this, as we did it on our SEOmoz page (I think). I'm not sure if this is totally helpful, but you might start with this: http://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=111476422280048#How-do-I-claim-a-Facebook-Place-for-my-business-and-link-it-to-my-existing-business-page?

RE: ShopTab Facebook App - Duplicate Content Issue?
The links all point back to your site right? This seems like it wouldn't be an issue with duplicate content since your pages are already established as the original owner of the content.
I don't know too much about ShopTab (maybe Kurt can explain more) but if it's pulling it in from an iFrame it may not be an issue at all.
Either way, I wouldn't worry too much about this being duplicate content. If you are worried though, you could start by adding just one subset of products first, see how that goes, then add the rest. If you have an example page to look at it I'm happy to check it out for you as well.
Thanks!

RE: Should I use this Facebook comment content on my related blog post?
Sorry for being a bit slow to respond to this one. I agree that the less aggressive option might be best here. I see that there area a ton of comments on that already. You have quite the community there!

RE: Oh! best community of seo the seomoz team! question:
Hi! for SEOmoz specifically we use Bronto for our newsletter, our Moz Top 10 email and many other emails. For Client management we use Infusionsoft, although we also have lots of info that we've built into our own database.
We're also lucky to have really excellent in-house designers who help us with our website and keep us consistent and usable!
I hope I was able to answer your questions. Please feel free to ask more!
Thanks,

RE: Facebook referrals
If you do use URL tagging when you share posts, you may be able to find out which URLs are doing well. For example if you tag your twitter shares and FB shares differently, then see if those are the ones getting shared on FB.
Also, don't forget to add FB insights for your site as well. You don't get referral traffic specifically but you do get a lot of additional information about the content on your site, as opposed to what you share on your page. You can get more info about it here: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/4-facebook-marketing-tactics-you-might-not-know-about.
Plus, most people see posts in their feed and not necessarily from specific pages, so this may also be why FB shows it all coming from one page.
Hope this helps a bit!

RE: What is it about the SEOMOZ video buffer bar?
Hi! Are you talking about the videos on Whiteboard Fridays? joeyoungblood is right, we use Wistia for video, it may be something they can fix on their end? If you give me an example I can check it out.

RE: Does anyone know if there are UK SEOMoz training courses I can attend?
Hi guys! Unfortunately don't have specific training courses like this where we train people on using our product, however we do have weekly Help webinars where you can talk to us directly and ask questions. You can sign up for them here: http://www.seomoz.org/dp/welcome-webinars.
Additionally, Distilled has some great conferences in the UK and the next one coming up is LinkLove. You can get more information about that here: http://www.distilled.net/events/linklove-london/.

RE: +1 articles and opposed to a website
I also just responded to a similar question: http://www.seomoz.org/q/benefits-of-1ing-a-sub-page-vs-root-page#post-66917 that I think will be helpful as well!
In essence, it might not even make a difference for Google. But, what I like about +1ing a page is that it then shows up in your feed so others will see it and you'll probably get more eyeballs on the specific content.
Hope that helps!

RE: Benefits of +1ing a Sub Page vs. Root Page
Hi Dylan! So I'd definitely say that having people +1 a specific page is going to be useful because it will show up in the SERPs if it's relevant to the query. However, check out this post from Rishi: How to Get a Celebrity to Endorse ALL You Products on Google. He shows where Aaron Wall shows up as +1ing the UK ebay site, but he never did. He did however +1 the US site. So Google is showing his +1 for essentially any page on the subdomain.
Major takeaways:
- He DID plus eBay.com, and NOT .co.uk. Google merged it to the .co.uk domain.
- He later REMOVED his plus. Google ignored the fact.
- He plussed the root domain. Google indicates that he plussed the SPECIFIC Ad Page.
- Its false endorsement, manipulated by Google.
In other words, it may not even matter! Hope this helps.

RE: Google Plus Algorithim take into account your circle of friends?
Hi Nevil!
I highly recommend you read through this article: The Ultimate Google+ SEO Guide from AJ Kohn. He's put in a ton of work to try to figure out how to make Google+ work for you from an SEO perspective. One part that jumped out to me from the post that seems quite relevant to your particular question is this line:
Content from people you engage with more often or content that is more popular overall will rank better.
I'd definitely read through his guide, as it's by far the best one out there for info on Google+ for SEO purposes.
Hope this helps!

RE: Social report
Hi guys! Robert is correct, the info does exist now in campaigns and yes we do have it in the plan to add it to reports as well. It would be great if you could add and/or upvote the request on this page as well: http://seomoz.zendesk.com/forums/293194-seomoz-pro-feature-requests. Thanks so much!

RE: Using twitter to boost organic rankings
It's important to look at Twitter as a way to engage with your fans and get your content out there rather than solely as a way to increase your rankings. If you're not there to interact with people, you'll find that they get uninterested quickly. The same goes for Facebook, Google+, etc.
I love the idea that Aran mentioned about having a Youtube channel. You can do a lot with that and even could post the videos on your site and tweet those links. One of the greatest things I've found though is to simply ask! Ask your Twitter followers what they'd like to see from you on Twitter. People LOVE giving their opinions so I'm sure you'll get some feedback. You could try that on Facebook and Google+ as well.
The idea really is to get a group of fans who are interested in what you're writing about or posting on your site as well. Maybe it's tour dates, or posts about your concerts, but something that gets people interested enough to tweet and retweet.
Hope this helps a bit!

RE: Does Open Site Explorer violate Google's Terms of service?
Hi Eric,
Open Site Explorer doesn't use Google at all, it uses our own crawl of the web which we call the Linkscape index. Hope that helps!

RE: Google+ What account to use for business?
Hi! Yes, Google does seem to want people to use their personal gmail accounts when setting up Google+ pages. I'm not 100% sure of the benefit of this other than just being able to verify it's a real person. I actually have the SEOmoz account set up under my personal gmail account. Luckily, they have now opened it up so you can add more administrators. However, the other administrators of the account are all also using their personal gmail account.
I don't think they allow Google Apps or Business accounts to set up Google+ pages (I could be wrong here though). What I would suggest is to create a gmail account for the team/company and make sure it's a personal account. Use that as the original owner, then add additional administrators through their personal accounts. Unfortunately there's no getting around having to use a personal account at some point.
When you log in, you have the ability to change the profile you're in from your own, to the company's. I hope this helps!

RE: Basic SEO HTML
Hi Bill!
A couple of your questions that haven't been answered yet:
How do you do this and how do you know if it's already being done?
When you look at the code for a page, if you see a lot of code within tags, that means that the CSS is on the page rather than in an external file.
You can do the same with JavaScript. If there is a lot of code within the tags in the source code, you know there is JavaScript on the page instead of in an external file.
If it has not been done on a site is it hard to go back and do?
It is very simple to take this code, put it into an external file, then link to it like we do on this particular page's code:
<link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="[/q/moz_nav_assets/stylesheets/production/all.css?0.4.25](view-source:http://www.seomoz.org/q/moz_nav_assets/stylesheets/production/all.css?0.4.25)" />
That is what it looks like when you link to a CSS external file.
If possible though, I'd definitely have someone who knows and understands the code help you out at first. There's nothing more infuriating that making what you think is a small change to a JavaScript file and it end up breaking the whole site.
Good luck! And I hope this helps a bit.

RE: Why is this Facebook Page outranking mine?
Hi Mark! Are you sure you just not getting personalized results? When I search, both logged in and logged out using different browsers, I see the Facebook page showing up 10th. Although when I run a search in the Rank Tracker tool it says it's #1. Odd.
In general though, I've seen Facebook pages rank rather highly if Google sees them as more relevant than the site. One thing I noticed though is that on the Facebook page, you don't have a link back to the site listed anywhere, like in your About section. Plus it looks like perhaps the FB site is rather new? (Since I'm not seeing much content) If so, it might be ranking well due to a "freshness" factor.
Hope this helps a bit!

RE: Facebook, Google Plus - What to share/like?
If you're sole focus is on SEO and not necessarily on SMM, I agree with Robert, you probably want to spend more time on Google+. Rand just posted a blog post talking about the changes Google is making to the SERPs and why it's important to have a Google+ strategy: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/why-every-marketer-now-needs-a-google-strategy. I'd definitely check out the post and associated video.
When it comes to Facebook, be sure that you read the promotions guidelines: http://www.facebook.com/promotions_guidelines.php.
Personally though, while social is definitely an aspect of SEO now, it really does need to be considered as a whole strategy on it's own as well. If you're going to start using social sites, make sure you're dedicated to working on them and managing them.
Hope this helps!

RE: What is the time range of social media metrics of Open Site Explorer?
Hi Cristian,
The numbers shown in OSE are pulled directly from APIs, and are not connected to the Linkscape index in any way. Also, I should note that the numbers shown only show the data for specific page you are looking at. They are not showing total FB shares, likes and Tweets, etc. for the entire domain. You can get more of that information for your client by using the Social tab inside of a campaign.
You can get more detailed information about the data used for the Social information in OSE here.
Hope that helps,
Jen

RE: OSE shows 118 FB shares but we show more, whats wrong here?
Dan is correct, the social data is not related to the Linkscape crawl at all. It is pulled directly from the APIs of Twitter and Facebook.
-
RE: My site links have gone from a mega site links to several small links under my SERP results in Google. Any ideas why?
Have you changed your homepage drastically lately? When you look at the text version of your Google cache there are only a couple links in there. Did other links exist previously? Perhaps Google is taking them out because they no longer exist on your home page?

RE: Deciphering Facebook backlinks
I'd love to hear how it works for you! Be sure to respond once you've had a chance to install it and watch a couple days worth of data.
-
RE: Deciphering Facebook backlinks
I'm saying, add the Facebook Insights for your website, which shows popular content and other information based on what's being shared on FB from your website as opposed to what's happening on your FB page. Then you can get that information. Check out the post I linked to which gives you instructions on setting this up.
-
RE: Deciphering Facebook backlinks
Hi Christopher! First off, I'm really sorry I actually thought I had responded to this a few days ago! Maybe I only responded in my head.
So, as far as I know you can't tell exactly which page it came from by the URL id. However, I wanted to ask if you have FB Insights for your site installed? You can read a bit more about it in this post: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/4-facebook-marketing-tactics-you-might-not-know-about. This might be able to get you what you want. Sadly I just went in to double check our data, but it doesn't seem to be working at the moment. I'll try to check back later though! I'd give that a shot.
Hope this helps,
Jen

RE: Best practices to add Facebook comments to wordpress blog?
Both Aran and Keri have given great responses! One thing I want to add about using FB comments, is that I believe that you lose all your previous comments once the FB comments are implemented. But perhaps Aran can verify that. One post I always refer to on the subject is this one from Jon Henshaw over at Raven: http://raventools.com/blog/facebook-comments/. Not only is the post helpful, but the discussion in the comments is valuable as well. I'd definitely give it a read.
I agree with Keri that while it can be frustrating to see more comments on FB than on the blog. But at the same time remember, you're not just building a blog, you're creating a community. Some members of the community are simply more comfortable using FB than they are commenting on the site. Since your site has such a wide reach, I could see my mom wanting to comment but only understanding how to do that on FB, so that's where she'd do it. It takes more work to moderate comments on both the blog and on FB and perhaps Twitter and anywhere else for that matter. But people are actively talking about your "brand" and getting your name out there.
Please let me know if you have more questions!

RE: Should my Facebook like button be for my Facebook page or my webpage?
I also like the idea of adding the like button to your site. Don't forget that you can get Facebook Insights for your site as well! I wrote a post earlier in the year that talks about how to set it up: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/4-facebook-marketing-tactics-you-might-not-know-about. This gives you access to data regarding what people are sharing and liking on YOUR site as opposed to what's happening on your FB page.
Hope this helps!

RE: Open Site Exporer Social Media Data Accuracy. Anyone notice this?
Hi Francisco,
Ok first, you should send an email to help at seomoz.org about the reauthorization problem. That shouldn't be happening and the Help team can help you out with that.
As for how the social numbers are calculated, here is a response from the engineering team:
"For the social metrics in OSE, first - they're not part of our Linkscape index. We compile those metrics from different APIs. The Twitter metrics are coming from Tweetmeme and they are page specific - not domain specific. So it's not how many people have tweeted his domain - it's how many times someone has tweeted that exact URL.
Facebook is a bit more confusing. The metric in OSE breaks out FB Likes and FB shares - however, on Facebook, when you see the number of Likes, that is a metric that combines shares, likes, and comments. It is confusing when we use Likes, because in OSE we are strictly counting Likes (like someone_liked_ it) which is not the same definition of Like on actual Facebook."It sounds like we're looking into fixing the way FB numbers work though, but it's a lower priority.I hope this helps!Jen -
RE: Last Linkscape Update?
Hi Mark!
We just had a Linkscape update today, however it looks like there are currently some issues with that data. We're working to resolve the issue now. Please feel free to email help@seomoz.org if you ever have any questions about the site or technical issues. That way we can track it with other support issues as well.
Hopefully the fixes we're working on tonight will answer your problem though! Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
Thanks!
