Actually, Moz Analytics does not require GA to work properly, though it does help.

That will tell you the number indexed, but it still doesn't tell you which of those URLs are or are not indexed. I think we all wish it would!

Agreed that it doesn't sound very legit at all, and I don't think you're being too harsh. I found the above when I started taking random phrases from the website and seeing if they were copied elsewhere on the web.
