Hi! It's probably best to email help@seomoz.org about this. You can give them your full URL and they can help figure out why Roger isn't crawling everything. Thanks!

RE: Dublin Core Metadata
I haven't used DC for metadata regarding websites, but I have used it in the past for structuring data regarding educational courses. Many educational institutions used that metadata to help standardize information about their course offerings, especially related to OpenCourseWare.
Before discontinuing their use, make sure there isn't another reason why the metadata is being used, and that other institutions aren't relying on data being in that form.

RE: Best Strategy to display 8mg Images on Product Pages for Ecommerce
Is using a smaller image in the description with a link to (and warning about) the higher-resolution image a possibility? That way you're not loading a huge image on every page load, but it's still there for users who want more information.

RE: Branded PDF Report
Hi Diego,
The branded PDF reports are available for those customers at the PRO Plus level and above. It looks like you're a PRO member, which is why you're not seeing that option.

RE: You're given 10,000 recipes and told to build a site--what would you do?
I'd ask if the recipes were already on the web and see if I'm going to be fighting a huge duplicate content problem against an established site.

RE: Backlink from my YouTube Channel, helpful for SEO?
My guess is no -- otherwise, we'd all have the latest viral cat video with 25,000,000 million views also embedded on our own website.

RE: Information Architecture Question
I am leaning towards using the existing blog and having a specialized category; it's nice to have that validated.
I think my next step is to see what can be done with WordPress and Thesis as they are, and then see if I need a plugin to make my life easier in splitting the blog entries over multiple pages or sections.
Any suggestions for favorite tools for using WP blog more as a CMS and less as a straight blog? The entire site as it is uses the WP framework -- the majority of the content is in pages, with just the one dedicated section (currently) for a blog.

Information Architecture Question
I've got a site architecture / branding / SEO question for my own site (http://www.strikemodels.com/). In brief, the site sells kits and accessories for model warships that shoot and sink each other. My husband (Stephen) runs the business, and makes many of the parts we sell in our workshop/garage.
Stephen wants to have a section where he talks about the equipment he is building/ using, and give updates on each of the pieces. This is equipment we use to make products, not equipment that we sell. For example, he's building an EDM machine, and getting a plastic injection molding machine and an ultrasonic welder up and running.
We have a blog section where we post about updates about items that we sell, how to use our products, etc. This is more of a place for him to talk about what he's doing in the shop, and would also serve in future years as something he could point people to regarding his skills as an engineer if needed.
I'm looking for opinions and options as to where to put this. Is there a way to use a different category in the blog and have items in the blog show up under a different page if they're in the "Stephen's Corner" category? Other options would be a separate site just for that, or to do threads on the a forum dedicated to the hobby. I'd prefer to keep things on our own site to keep all of the benefits together.
Thoughts on structure or ways to make this work? Things I hadn't thought about?
Thanks!

RE: Does the Crawl Diagnosis - Duplicate Page Content account for a canonical meta tags?
At this time, we don't change the duplicate report based on canonical tags.
-
RE: Article distribution do's and dont's
Better places on the web won't accept duplicate content.
What about writing for your website instead, so that when people look for that type of content in a search engine they find your site, and not the site of an article directory?

RE: MozBar & OSE

RE: How to update a crawl
Hi! You can do a crawl test on up to 3000 pages at http://pro.seomoz.org/tools/crawl-test that should help you out!
-
RE: Website pages missing from seomoz crawl
Actually, the SEOmoz crawler should be crawling all of the pages -- it's OSE that doesn't crawl everything, but the crawler from your campaign should show all that it could find. If you email help@seomoz.org they'd be happy to help you figure it out, or if you want to share your URL here along with some pages that are missing, the Q&A people could help diagnose things too.

RE: Has anyone used pageinvasion as a plugin for wordpress?
I haven't used it, but I would be very wary about using it after looking over the description. Most of the features are things we generally warn against doing. The features on the home page are:
"Create hundreds or thousands of Search Engine Optimized web pages with this new, revolutionary and amazing premium WordPress plugin."
"Enter unique content in spintax format and each page will be unique, no duplicate content issues." (content spinning - you end up with sentences like "think before you beverage" in an article about drinking)
"A brand new, non-duplicate, search engine optimized page is created for each keyword! 5 main keywords plus 5 specialty keywords equals 5 X 5, 25 new optimized web pages. 50 X 50 = 2500 new pages!."
I would really avoid this automated content creation. It's not good for the search engines or for your users. Instead, spend your time creating real pages for your users.

RE: Rankings in Google.be - 3 languages
Hi Nancy,
Thanks for reaching out. When you're in your campaign settings, the order of the engines you select is the order of the rankings that are displayed. So the top engine is the first ranking, the middle engine is the second ranking, and the bottom engine is the third ranking. Hope this helps!
Thanks for pointing this out -- it is a bit confusing! I'm forwarding this over to the correct department so we can see if we can get this fixed and explained a bit better.

A quick note that these questions are indexed quickly, and if your client searched on their domain name, they might see this question.

RE: Odd Ranking Page - Contact Us
Hi! The logged in part would be my guess as well. Can you ask your client to use her browser in an incognito mode and preform the same search? That will help remove some of the personalization.

RE: Why would I lose 300 links in 19 days?
Hi Benjamin,
Do you mean in OpenSiteExplorer or Google? OSE just released an update, and we could have just not crawled some of the links you had before -- they could be there, it's just that we didn't crawl that site this time.
-
RE: Direct Traffic Source?
Do you have an email newsletter that goes out with deep links? Is there a forum that discusses your site, with the option to subscribe by email (and thus people getting the forum notifications in email)? Was there any type of print mention of your URL?
Is this happening to just one or two pages, or a bunch of pages? Does the direct traffic have anything in common when you drill down to city, screen resolution, etc?

RE: Spurious entries in report
Is there any identifiable information here? First a quick check to see if there's a privacy issue -- if you click on these URLs is there any info in the URL giving away the email address, name, etc of people in the signup form?
Right now there's not a way to hide it on a report, but you might see if there's a way to just exclude that via a robots.txt just to save your crawl budget and make sure that it isn't a problem with the search engines.

RE: Campaign Issue: Rel Canonical - Does this mean it should be "on" or "off?"
This is a notice, not an error or a warning. It's basically saying "hey, people can often screw this up, take a look and make sure that everything looks OK to you".
-
RE: Google Webmaster Tools - spike in 'not selected' under Index Status
I don't have an answer for you, but you're not the only one seeing this. Barry writes about it on Search Engine Roundtable at http://www.seroundtable.com/google-not-selected-16007.html

RE: Does Google still have a standard search result? How can I get it?
Hi Ryan,
Appending that to my query string didn't work, but using the Search Tools dropdown and setting my location to US did the trick. Thanks for questioning me, was great to be able to see this.

RE: Keyword Difficulty Tool not working?
Hi Sam,
This is a different problem from what was reported in October. If you go to your PRO dashboard, there's a section for known issues, and there's a link to our post at https://seomoz.zendesk.com/entries/22457872-keyword-difficulty-and-rank-tracker-issues explaining the current status. We're also keeping people informed on the Help Hub home page, our Facebook page, and our Twitter stream. Feel free to send us an email at help@seomoz.org if there is anything more we could help answer.

RE: Does Google still have a standard search result? How can I get it?
The one time I've been able to get a non-geo result is when I had in-flight wifi on a Southwest flight. It was odd (and refreshing) to see terms like "pizza" come back with just ten blue links. A little impractical for daily use though.
-
RE: Why does google not recognize inbound links from bbb.org?
Thanks Corey, that's the perfect answer. We don't crawl all the web, which is sometimes why we don't see the really deep links. We're only at 100 people, so don't have quite the server farms that Google or Bing do for crawling.

RE: Redirect non www. domain to WWW. domain for established website?
SEO5, can you add some more information about how to use Google Webmaster Tools to do a 301 redirect for URLs? I'm not sure that this is possible. 301s usually require server access, and GWT doesn't control your server. You can set your preferred domain in GWT, but you would still want to do a 301 for users and for other search engines.
-
RE: What are the relative values of different PageRanks?
For your last point, I think you meant that Google has reduced the frequency of updating the toolbar page rank that is visible to the user, rather than the true PR they use internally? If they've reduced the internal calculation, I'd be interested in reading more about that.
-
RE: Suggestions for good ranking
How is your traffic? You've referenced a drop in toolbar page rank, and a drop in rankings, but has your traffic been affected? If so, has your organic traffic been affected? And just from Google, or from all search engines?
-
RE: Keywords Ranking Dropped
Just a quick reply that the disavow tool is (according to Google themselves) there as a last resort for link removal, not as a first step. It's to be used only after you've done everything you can to contact site owners to remove the bad links.
-
RE: Back Link Question
There is a good set of questions and information at http://www.mytrafficdropped.com/ about helping to determine if you have a penalty or were affected by a particular algorithm update.
-
RE: Back Link Question
Just a quick note that Google has said that the disavow tool is a last resort, not a first option. It's only for those links where you have contacted the site and have not been able to get the link removed.

RE: How to update Crawldiagnostics?
Hi Bipsum,
We re-crawl every seven days. You can manually crawl up to 3000 URLs at a time by visiting our crawl tool at http://pro.seomoz.org/tools/crawl-test. Hope this helps!

RE: How to update Crawldiagnostics?
Hi! The person asking this question is actually referring to the SEOmoz tools and how to recrawl them, not how to request anything from Google.
