Harald, it looks like the response you've quoted is from http://groups.google.com/a/googleproductforums.com/forum/#!category-topic/webmasters/crawling-indexing--ranking/9MGYEoROdkg, which is a question about a menu that has javascript. I think this poster has a slightly different question. I'll ask another associate to come on in and take a look.

RE: Secondary Pages Indexed over Primary Page
Hi Bucky,
Have you seen Rand's post on several things to do if the wrong page is ranking at http://www.seomoz.org/blog/wrong-page-ranking-in-the-results-6-common-causes-5-solutions?

RE: Redirection
I'm not sure this is quite the best strategy to use. A 302 isn't meant to pass link juice, though I believe Bing will treat it as a 301 if it sees it there long enough. Instead of spending the time to create over 1000 subdomains, it is generally a better use of time to just create the content on the main domain itself.

RE: Are link exchanges bad for SEO these days? Also, is adding my site to free yet relevent directory sites a bad idea?
A couple of clarifications here. Links from .edu (as well as .gov and .mil) are often thought to have more value because not everyone can register those domains, though there is debate as to whether they do have more value or not. Anyone can obtain a .org domain, no matter what its purpose.
Here's a good post from Cyrus on the SEOmoz blog about building links with directories:

RE: Duplicate content issue
Actually, the original poster mentioned a wiki, but said nothing about wikipedia. I'm going to ask another associate to also look at this thread and chime in to make sure we've got this figured out correctly.

RE: Is Buying Domains Good For SEO? Can I 301 redirect domains to an Original website?
To clarify, the domain name of these purchased domains is relevant to the main domain, but the content on the pages is not? So the domain might be leathermensshoes but the content is about umbrellas, or am I totally misunderstanding?

RE: Does redesigning the website effects the SEO?
A couple of recent great resources about redesigning websites without losing rankings are available at
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/achieving-an-seo-friendly-domain-migration-the-infographic
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/web-site-migration-guide-tips-for-seos
They are aimed at migrating your site to a new URL, but much of the information they have is applicable in your situation about URLs and things to consider during a redesign.

RE: Rankings disappears for two days
That's interesting behavior. Are you able to tell us those sites at all? Are they related in any way? How new are they? Any more information about them can help us answer you a bit better. Thanks!

RE: How do I find the corresponding duplicate content pages from my SEOmoz report?
Harald, the question was regarding the SEOmoz tool specifically and how to find where the duplicate URLs, not a question about what is duplicate content.

RE: Query for checking is a link to domain A already exists on domain B
Basically, you want to know:
Before I send a link request to this site, I want to check and make sure that I don't already have a link from them.
Is this correct? Just wanting to help rephrase to help you get some more on-target answers here.

RE: New website, to www or not
I believe it's just personal preference these days. Some people are dropping the www and making the non-www the canonical version since it's four characters shorter, which can be helpful if you're active on Twitter and other character-restricted networks.

RE: What is the highest conversion rate you have achieved? URGENT... Community please help!!!
That's going to be really subjective and it depends on a ton of things. Here is a good post that talks about a lot of the factors that go into optimizing for a conversion http://www.seomoz.org/blog/the-definitive-howto-for-conversion-rate-optimization.

RE: I want your opinions on the lack of increase in Pintrest's PR
Sometimes it's been as long as six months between toolbar pagerank updates.
Nope, no way to check the real PR. The answer you'll get from many people is to ignore those green pixels and carry on with other things.

RE: I'd like to hook up a SEOMOZ campaign to one of my clients that I access through the AdWords MCC.
I've flagged this for the help team, but to clarify, you are wanting to hook up Google Analytics to your campaigns, and you have access to GA only via the Adwords MCC, right?
-
RE: I want your opinions on the lack of increase in Pintrest's PR
Keep in mind you're only seeing the Toolbar Page Rank, which updates only a few times a year, and isn't an exact reflection of the constantly-updated real PR that's internally calculated by Google.

RE: SEOMOZ Glossary
Hi Francisco,
That's a great idea! If you wanted to, it'd make for a good YouMoz post. We have one from 2007 that did quite well at http://www.seomoz.org/blog/smwc-and-other-essential-seo-jargon. It is missing a few of these terms though. I can see a shorter glossary, but with links to help/login pages about these terms, as a useful piece.

RE: Terminology -branded vs non-branded
Hi Kynduvme, I'll take a stab at this, and let others add their comment as well.
Branded keywords are generally those of your brand, such as your company name or a product name. For example, my husband and I run a business called Strike Models where we sell model warships that shoot and sink each other. For us, "Strike Models" is a branded search. If I see that in my analytics, I know that someone is searching for me because they have heard of our company.
If I see "model ship plans" or "rc battleships", that's not a branded search. I'm appearing for some of my keywords, and the people may not have heard of my particular brand before. It's usually easier to rank for your branded terms, and thus helps separate that out from your other keywords.
Does that help?
edit: here's the post we made when branded keywords were introduced:

RE: Redirecting broken incoming links
I would certainly redirect those pages! If you're on Wordpress, I suggest the Redirection plugin. It's easy to set up those redirects, and also has a feature where you can monitor your 404s and set up redirects from your 404 logs.

RE: Error Reporting
Hi Mike,
The rel=canonical information is in the notices section. It's just a notice to say "hey, it's here, check and make sure you have it set up right". I took a look at your account and at first glance it does look OK (you don't have everything set to the home page and you're taking care of sort parameters).
It's not a warning or error, just a notice, and all appears to be OK.
-
RE: Error Reporting
This is actually just a notice to let you know there is a rel=canonical tag, it shouldn't be in the error section. Make sure that it all appears OK and you should be fine.

RE: What equipment do i need to edit a broadcast to put on you tube
Just checking that you have approval from the radio programme to redistribute this audio to YouTube. They are known to take down material that infringes copyright, would hate to see you spend a lot of time only to have it taken down.

RE: Blog problems
For the second site listed, I see one post, and that content is also at http://www.stephensons.co.uk/site/news_and_events/blogpost/motor_insurance_fraud. The rest is default WP stuff. That's really not adding the type of value that Google is looking for in a site.
For the first site, I'm seeing duplicated content and a very similar template between http://www.advantagesolicitor.co.uk/disciiplinary-hearing-procedure/ and http://www.atmsolicitors.co.uk/disciplinary-hearings/.
I'm afraid I don't see the original content for these sites.
I'm not sure what you mean by not on analytics. I was asking about Google Webmaster Tools, not Google Analytics.
-
RE: Blog problems
Have you checked in Google Webmaster Tools for any notices?
-
RE: My tools have stopped working.
Hi Julie,
So sorry to hear about that problem. I'd first try reinstalling the toolbar. Some other things that may be causing a problem are conflicting toolbars, virus protection, or firewalls.
If the reinstall doesn't solve your problem, please email our help team at help@seomoz.org and let them know what browser you're using and we'll help you figure out the problem via the help team.
Thanks!

RE: Automatic redirect to external urls
Can you give out some more details of your situation? I think most of us think of Google's explanation of a bridge page at http://support.google.com/adwordspolicy/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=190435 when we hear that term, so having a 302 is a bit confusing.
-
RE: Duplicate Content http://www.website.com and http://website.com
Hi Jonathan,
Did this work for you, or would you still like some help:?
-
RE: Follow up to Archive of Content
This is correct. 301s are done all the time, and it's the way to tell the search engines the new location for the content.
-
RE: Get a new domain?
I agree with EGOL's suggestion to have an expert look at the situation. We really don't have enough information here to be able to tell you for sure what has happened to your site, and what the best course of action is.
-
RE: Site not indexing correctly
Something is odd here. When I search for franchises for sale, I'm seeing this as the snippet in the SERP:
ColdFusion Server Standard, 9,0,0,251028. Template, /index.cfm. Time Stamp, 10-Mar-12 10:59 PM. Locale, English (US). User Agent, Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; ...
Maybe there's some issue with crawling?
-
RE: Weird info from google analytics?
It is people visiting just one page and leaving. They might be on there for five minutes, but because they aren't doing anything else on your site (like clicking to another page), there is no way the time can be recorded.
In your situation, I'd look at what organic keywords are most associated with this data. Are you writing about calico fabrics and at one point mentioned cats, so you're getting visits from people searching for calico cats and they're leaving? Look at your landing pages, are there particular pages with high bounce rates? Is there a browser with a high bounce rate? Maybe something isn't rendering right, maybe there's a link going to a 404 page, etc.
-
RE: Having a hard time with duplicate page content
Does the URL redirect in the browser, or are you still needing to get the redirect itself set up correctly?
-
RE: Are Directories Good Links?
I'd suggest Google searches using your keywords plus words like forum or online community. Here's a small business finance forum at http://www.smallbusinessbrief.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=37 where you can see what kinds of questions people are asking. You can go in and provide some advice in answers, or even use the questions as ideas for your own blog post.
A note of caution is that the owner of that forum is a known and respected SEO and will easily see through any attempts at blatant link drops; it's not one to try to spam.
-
RE: How can I Improve My Site Page Rank?
Hi Timothy,
What you're looking at is the Toolbar Page Rank for an individual URL on your site. That's a number that's updated 2-4 times a year, and is only a semi-accurate representation of the internal ranking that Google keeps.
Like Steve says, you want to focus on if your traffic, rankings, conversions, etc. have changed.
-
RE: 2 home page domains causing split in link juice
Hi Devon,
Were you able to get this sorted out, or are you still looking for some help?
-
RE: Is it possible for someone outside an organization to remove links?
Are you saying that what had been identified by the SEOmoz tools as a valuable link that is on your site is no longer identified as a valuable link? Or has the link on your site itself disappeared? If the link itself has disappeared, you need to investigate with your IT department. If it's that SEOmoz no longer identified the link as strong, send an email to help@seomoz.org and ask our help team about it.
Did that help, or did I misunderstand your question?
-
RE: High PR backlinking blogs
Daniel,
Did these responses answer your question? I'd also add that even with different IPs, you can still easily tip off the search engines to networks of sites, such as by using the same Google Analytics account. Check out http://spyonweb.com/ and see if it identifies that these blogs are linked.
-
RE: Best kind of backlinks
Keep in mind that the best links take some effort. They may not be paid links, but you will still need to spend time in creating good content that will naturally gather links, or in spending time to find relevant sites to contact. There is no sustainable free lunch out there.

RE: How come I cannot ask one question a month to the pro's ?
Kane, Pro members have unlimited questions in public Q&A, and one private Q&A question a month. That private question is not indexed and not viewable to anyone other than SEOmoz staff and associates, who are under NDAs.
We have a known issue we're working on right now where occasionally people are not able to ask a question. Stephen is right that emailing the help desk is the best way to fix this and get the question credit.
Marc, if your question is about the increase in errors on your campaign, that sounds like a help desk question anyway and not one where you need to use a private question credit (though I'd still ask for it in your email to help). The crawler did change how it's detecting some things, so it may just be that the change is the reason you are seeing more errors.

RE: Problem with the keyword difficulty tool
Thanks for jumping in here Doug. It is a known problem, and we've made a post about it in ZenDesk at https://seomoz.zendesk.com/entries/21120163-google-adwords-not-displaying-in-keyword-difficulty where you can look for updates. We do have people working on this over the weekend, I know that much.

RE: Is using twiends.com to get twitter followers considered black hatting?
At SMX West last month, Duane Forrester from Bing was talking about social signals and Bing, and saying that they look at who you follow as a signal, just like they look at who you link to. You don't want to link to a bunch of spammy sites, and you don't want to follow a bunch of spammy profiles.
I realize that you asked about people following you. Some of the twitter services (though it doesn't look like this is the model of Twiends) for gaining followers follow a bunch of people in hopes of getting people to follow back, then unfollow those who do not follow back. I'm pointing this out here for people in the future reading this and considering other ways to get followers.
Followers don't necessarily read your tweets, much less go to your site. I occasionally tweet from the SEOmoz Twitter account when Jen is unavailable, and there were a couple of times I inserted a bad link into the tweet about that day's blog post. I was amazed at the number of people that I got that immediately retweeted the SEOmoz tweet -- they obviously were not going to the site, but just trying to look like a "real" account by retweeting things from a known and trusted account.

RE: What to look for in paid directories
When the new SEOmoz list of directories came out, Cyrus did a post about best practices when building links for directories. You might want to check it out at http://www.seomoz.org/blog/seo-link-directory-best-practices.
