RE: Is using part of a meta description already on your site for another product considered duplicate?
By my understanding, meta description isn't generally something that will affect your SEO, either positively or negatively. Because it exists as part of the page, it's part of the content that search engines would compare when considering whether or not two pages are duplicate, but provided the main page content is reasonably robust it shouldn't make that much of a difference.
What it will affect, though, is your clickthrough rate from the SERPs. Think of it as free ad space—it's what will entice searchers to click on your listing. If you feel like the same description would serve that purpose for two different products, you should be safe.

RE: URL Construction
If you're sure you want to use a new URL, I'd go with the second one (LakeNameBoating.com/boat-rentals). The name of the lake being in the domain would make using it again feel redundant.
That's pretty much just personal preference, though.

RE: Www.googleadservices.com/pagead/conversion_async.js what is this url doing on my site?
Looks like it's an "Asynchronous AdWords Remarketing Tag." Google has an article on it here:

See if that answers your question.

RE: Inbound link not showing up.
Hi Martin!
Two possibilities immediately come to mind.
The first is that that link simply hasn't yet appeared in our Mozscape link index. You can learn a bit more about how we index the web here, under the Frequently Asked Questions tab. The next update is projected for June 23.
The other possibility is that the link is marked "nofollow" or is otherwise uncrawlable, which is often the case with ads. If that's the case, it may never show up in OSE. That said, since an ad is a paid link, it really wouldn't be a part of your organic link profile.
Does that make sense?

Personally, if the list of companies os going to stay the same, I'd keep it all to one page. Google is smart enough to see the topical similarity, and the risk of appearing spammy doesn't seem worth it.

RE: Sitemap Migration - Google Guidelines
Hi there! I believe that Google is simply recommending that you make sure to have the new URL map, the old URL map, and a list of all your inbound links. Looks like how they're meant to be used comes up in the next steps. For example, the next page includes these steps (which I have completely removed from their contexts, so make sure to do things in the order Google outlines):
- On the destination site, submit the two sitemaps you prepared previously containing the old and new URLs. This helps our crawlers discover the redirects from the old URLs to the new URLs, and facilitates the site move.
and
- External links: Try to contact the sites in the saved list of sites linking to your current content, asking them to update their links to your new site.
The old and new sitemaps will be used by Google when first indexing your old site, and the list of external links is there to help you maintain your link profile.
Does that make sense?

RE: Moz Local and NAP
Hi Steve!
I've spoken to one of our Moz Local engineers about this, and they're actually working on a fix right now. We're hoping to have a fix out in the next couple weeks.
In the meantime, he assures me that these very slight inconsistencies are not a problem.
Does that help?

RE: Unsure on Keyword Difficulty Tool
Hi Kieran!
That's a great question! The issue is that Google's API no longer provides us that sort of traffic data, so we simply don't have it to show. We substitute Bing's data in order to give you something to work with.
When you have Google selected as your search engine, though, you will see accurate Google rankings. It's just the search volume that's missing.
There's a bit more information in this thread.
I hope that helps!

RE: Home Page Ranking Instead of Service Pages
I have to agree on the link building suggestion. Often when I've heard folks complain about this issue it ends up being due to a dramatically stronger link profile for the home page. If you don't have relevant links pointing to the landing pages, it's quite likely the on-page optimization alone won't be enough.

RE: Is there a tool that works like crawl test that allows more than 3000 pages?
Hi Brad!
Donna is spot-on; I'm especially a fan of Screaming Frog. That said, it looks like you're a Moz Pro subscriber, so you can use your Moz Analytics campaigns to crawl any site up to 50,000 pages.
Whenever you set up a new campaign, it automatically crawls the site it's set to track. It then updates every week, with the crawl results surfaced in Crawl Diagnostics. It looks like your account can hold up to 5 active campaigns, but they can always be deleted and more can be added.
Does that help at all?

RE: Basic SERP report does really gives me useful information?
Hi Endre! If you haven't you may want to try running a _full _SERP report on those terms using the blue button in the upper-right of that screenshot. It compares a lot more ranking factors, and might give you a better idea of what's going of.

RE: Does getting a placement in a high DA site matter if PA remains low?
I just want to add a point of clarification to #1 there:
It could actually be several months before PA and DA update to reflect changes. This is because PA and DA are link metrics based on our Mozscape index (the index that also powers Open Site Explorer). Index update times vary, but it's fair to say they take an average of 4 weeks or so to compile. So, link metrics update approximately once per month.
But!
Say your site acquires a new backlink, which may have an affect on its authority metrics. If Mozscape is still in the process of crawling and indexing the web and hasn't yet crawled your site, then provided your site gets does get crawled you'll see the changes in the next index release.
If, however, Mozscape is still in the process of crawling and indexing the web and has already crawled your site, you won't see any update for 2 or more index cycles. This is because your site has already been crawled in that cycle and won't be recrawled until the index is released and we start on a new one.
You can see the date of the last release and the expected date of the next on the Open Site Explorer homepage, or here.
Does that make sense?

RE: Which Citation Sources Do You Implicity Trust?
I can definitely get behind our Moz Local partners. They are:
- Infogroup
- Acxiom
- Localeze
- Factual
- Foursquare
- Superpages
- Best of the Web
- Bing
- Citysearch
- Insiderpages
Otherwise, I can say from my agency days that when they look sketchy, they generally are.

RE: Spam score 9/17 and redirect Question
Hi onlinegusto,
I endorsed Jordan's answer because I felt that it was a succinct answer to the question. I dounderstand how and why the response wasn't satisfying to you, though, so I'll attempt to address your question in its entirety.
**Does the Spam Score generally take long to drop? **That depends. As Jordan and I have both noted, Spam Score updates along with the rest of our link metrics with each new index. When your Spam Score updates will depending on when, and even if, the latest crawl indexed your site. I recommend reading this Help Hub page on Mozscape updates to get an understanding of how that works.
I also recommend reading Rand's post from the launch of Spam Score, which goes into those 17 factors. That could give you an idea of the sort of things that could be giving your site that score of 9/17, which in turn could give you an idea of what you'll need to do to bring it down.
**Should I try and stop the permanent redirect and direct my .com to the .net domain? **Hard to say. Though TLD is considered in Spam Score, it only considers TLDs highly associated with spam to be problematic. That's not the case for either .com or .net, so the simple fact of your TLD isn't a factor in your site's 9/17. If one or the other has a lower score, feel free to use that one, but be mindful of the other SEO issues that could arise.
Are there experts who can lower my score? Also hard to say. There certainly aren't any experts I'm aware of who focus specifically on lowering Spam Score. There are experts who focus on penalty recovery, but I see no indications that your site has been penalized. I can't speak for the entire community, as members contribute to these discussions on their own time and without compensation. There isn't any directory of community members and their specialties.
It's worth pointing out exactly what Spam Score measures. The 17 factors are correlations, not in and of themselves indicators of spam. I'll let Rand take it, from the blog post I linked:
The overall Spam Score is currently an aggregate of 17 different "flags." You can think of each flag a potential "warning sign" that signals that a site may be spammy. The overall likelihood of spam increases as a site accumulates more and more flags, so that the total number of flags is a strong predictor of spam. Accordingly, the flags are designed to be used together—no single flag, or even a few flags, is cause for concern (and indeed most sites will trigger at least a few flags).
To lower your score, the best thing you can do is focus on the particular flags that you'll find in the Open Site Explorer report. And, of course, to build high-quality links.
**Should I look for non spammy niche directories in its niche and submit my site to them to increase link authority and nofollow links? **I would never recommend any link directories as a means for building your link profile. They're very unlikely to help in that regard. They _may _help by driving a certain amount of traffic to your site, but that will do very little to help with Spam Score or authority.
So, to summarize:
1. Spam Score updates along with the Mozscape index, so it could take some time to see a change.
2. As—at least partially—a link metric, Spam Score can be improved by building a quality link profile. That could include disavowing your own spammy links, but please be careful if you decide to do so.
3. Making positive changes on your site will lower your Spam Score over time.
Please be empathetic to Jordan and me and understand why we both felt that his response provided an effective, boiled-down answer to your question. Good luck, though! I know how frustrating it is to see a metric like that with no apparent way to improve.

RE: Does getting a placement in a high DA site matter if PA remains low?
Hi Marcus!
What I'm getting from your question in that a high-authority site has a roughly two-week-old page featuring a piece of content of yours. Is that correct?
Generally, a PA or DA of 1 simply means that we don't yet have information on that URL. As I explained in my response to John, we gather that information through our crawl of the web as documented in our Mozscape index. That crawl takes ~1 month.
PA and DA are based on pretty much the same factors, and those factors are almost entirely based on the strength of the backlink profile. According to the Open Site Explorer home page, the last index was released March 2, and the next index is expected to be released March 30. That makes March 30 the earliest you can expect to see information about that page. It's quite possible that you still won't see it until the following update.
PA and DA are both based on pretty much the same factors, and those factors are based almost entirely on the strength of the backlink profile. The difference is that DA is based on the backlink profile for the entire domain, while PA is based on the backlink profile for just that page. PA can be raised by building links to the page. If it doesn't gain links, PA won't improve (though I'd expect it to me higher than 1 once it's been crawled and indexed).
Now, lastly, you ask about your boost in the SERPs. I assume you mean you're expecting a bump for your site, since the high-authority site links to you through the content it's picked up, yes? In that case, you may see some benefit on the SERPs well before the change is reflected in PA (Google crawls a lot faster than we do). The amount of a boost you get will depend on a lot, including your competitors' link profiles and whether the content that got picked up also appears on your site (if it does, I hope the high-authority site is pointing to the original content on your site with rel=canonical, or you could find yourself competing with them).
I really hope that makes sense. Let me know if you need more clarification, or if I'm just totally misunderstanding your question!

RE: Multi Keyword URL Ranking at Number 1
Yeah, I have to agree that it's pretty unlikely the URL alone is the thing helping them rank.
Since you're a Pro subscriber, I'd suggest using the Keyword Difficulty Tool to run a Full SERP Report on that keyword. That might help you work out what's going on.
Cyrus Shepard made a video explaining that report that I think could be useful.

RE: Moz page optimization score issue, have a score of 95, but can get to 99 if I ad my keyword basically twice in the url.
And we worked it out! In case anyone else has a similar question:
When you pair a keyword to a page in the Page Grader tool—such as the page /laptop-bag/leather-shoulder/ paired with the keyword "leather shoulder laptop bag"—the tool will scan the page for exact instances of the phrase. So, even though the words "laptop," "bag," "leather," and "shoulder" are in the URL, the tool doesn't recognize the phrase "leather shoulder laptop bag," and so suggests adding it to the URL. If the URL is /laptop-bags/leather-shoulder-laptop-bags/, though, the tool _does _see the exact term, so it bumps up the score and removes the suggestion.
In this case, though, Deacyde is totally right—/laptop-bags/leather-shoulder-laptop-bags/ is, well, kind of terrible. The thing to keep in mind is that a score of 100 in the tool means that the keyword for which it's evaluating the page is in _absolutely every _keyword optimization position. That doesn't always make sense, especially for a longer-tail term like "leather shoulder laptop bag."
So in this instance, 95 is better than 99.

RE: Can I robots.txt an entire site to get rid of Duplicate content?
Hi there!
Just for clarification, I'm really not sure what you mean by "robots.txt-ing" the site. Do you mean, should you use robots.txt to block crawlers from accessing the entire site? That would be fine, if you're not concerned about that site never ranking, ever.

RE: Is constant contact a good source for seo links? how about best of the web? Is tweet angels a smart move? anybody got a good list of strong DA and PA link companies you can do business with and also get strong follow links from? thanks...
Hi Ben!
Hard as it is to hear, you're really not likely to make much headway with links like that, rankings-wise. Directories really just don't have the value they once did, and it'd be pretty clear to the search engines that links from, say, Constant Contact aren't exactly "organic." That doesn't mean they'd _hurt _you, necessarily; it just means they're not likely to do you a lot of good.
It certainly takes longer, but you and your clients will be much better-served through organic link building. I'd recommend reading the Beginner's Guide to Link Building if you haven't already. It's a great place to start.

RE: My website is currently failing Google's mobile friendly test. What are my options?
Hi Patrick!
Google looks at a lot of factors when determining whether a page is mobile friendly. According to a post on their Webmaster Central Blog, for a site to pass the test it needs to:
- Avoid software that is not common on mobile devices, like Flash
- Use text that is readable without zooming
- Size content to the screen so users don't have to scroll horizontally or zoom
- Place links far enough apart so that the correct one can be easily tapped
As you can see, it's more than a matter of implementing a particular bit of code. In addition to the blog post linked above, I recommend going through Google's guide to mobile-friendly design.
Good luck!

RE: Need a layman's definition/analogy of the difference between schema and structured data
Hi Rosemary! There's actually a pretty decent explanation here: https://moz.com/learn/seo/schema-structured-data
Structured data is a system of pairing a name with a value that helps search engines categorize and index your content. Microdata is one form of structured data that works with HTML5. Schema.org is a project that provides a particular set of agreed-upon definitions for microdata tags.
Does that make sense?
