RE: SEO Service
Hey Tan,
I would agree with Chenzo to a higher extent! I think if anyone offers you that he/she will build 50 links per month sounds more like a shit to me and honestly you are going for a lousy services if you are going for this...
Good Links build itself (naturally) and if you give reasons your audience to link to you then there are no way they will not link to you...just find a person who creates awesome content and with that a great promotional plan you will started to see the improvement in links, ranking, traffic, leads and finally sales and branding....
The key to rock in search engine to place and set yourself as an expert and not as the one who got nothing but a sales page for their customers and egger to rank on the first page of Google...
Choose the people/companies (may be within the SEOmoz community) and talk to them interview them ask them how they will promote you and if they sounds logical as well as profitable to you then go for it... Remember, I will make you on the first page of Google is neither logical nor profitable...
Good luck with search!

RE: Hit with Panda, but still confused
Cesar, I think you are missing something here!
Let me go step by step...
About your first confusing like why your many keywords go down but you are still ranking for one of your main keyword... well honestly Google’s penalty can be limited as well especially if you have a Big site it is fairly possible to have limited area to be affected by the update IMO.
Now the thing that you are missing here is links... it’s not only your on-site content (Although it’s good to remove the onsite errors as well) try to get in to links and see what low quality links are pointing to your website and remove them... try to build authority links and build new and great content to get out of the update...
It’s not really an easy and a quick job but to be honest until now this is the only thing to get out of Penguin!
-
RE: Do you recommend www.submit-it.com?
Thanks right Kari! Adding sitemap to webmaster tools is all that is needed and search engines will pick the website itself...
Ryan is right all you will receive after that is offers that will take you money away from your pockets...
You simply don’t need to go for it!
-
RE: New site, SEO well considered, no traffic :/ What next?
I think you are playing safe till now... depending on your link building, content marketing and Social Media efforts you can measure the time and impact of your success.
I think asking out for outsourcing is great unless you know that service provide is going to help you instead of getting a shit out of the money you are investing.
I recommend you to go for a freelancer or company who have a good name or have done something for community... and have good idea for your company to work on...
Keep that in mind if all idea they have is directory submissions and article submissions and Yahoo answers then you are wasting your time indeed!
-
RE: Penguin or paid link penalty, or both?
Zach this is something I have already dealt with...
- OSE will never show you all the links I would highly recommend you using Open Site Explorer as it will give you the detail link of back links...
- Using Network of site is a BIG no... Try to remove as many links as possible and submit the reconsideration request to Google.
- Build quality links to the website... as many as possible
- I have witnessed the limited penalty due to unnatural links because you are overlooking the links that are not shown in OSE.
Try the suggestions above and you will be get some traffic back and this is the time when you should submit your reconsideration request again!

RE: Wrong sitelinks & landing pages in Google
I dont think Demoting links will be a good idea!
-
RE: Domain stuck at end of SERPs for main keywords
Although there is less but one thing that you might be missing is the removal of dead links or low quality links that are pointing to your site…
Is there any network of sites that are pointing back to your website? If yes try and remove the links from network sites or site-wide links that are pointing back to you.
I think removal of bad links is going to help you get well in search engines.
-
RE: Url canonicalization: www. to http://
Yep it is different! If you prefer the new version of the URL that is non-www then i would highly recommend using 301 Redirection from www to non-www pages. And your issues will be resolved in days...
On my personal website i did the same as i prefer the www version for my site!

RE: Wrong sitelinks & landing pages in Google
Joel, this happens to one of my client that few of his targeted land pages were not ranking and supporting pages were performing well instead of the main pages...
At that time there was no option to demote site links, so what i did is to get internal links from within the content to major pages and get some quality external links points to the major pages and boom... search engine gets it...
I guess in your thing you have to get more external links pointing to the major URL (off course if all other on-pages issues related to indexing are already fixed!)
Hope this helps!

RE: Domain stuck at end of SERPs for main keywords
In the general analysis of your website the website seems good enough and properly optimized. The links seems to be relevant to the niche (in a quick overview) although the distribution of links pointing to internal pages is quite low but this should not cause this problem.
It’s difficult to solve this problem from this side of the corner but access to analytics and webmaster tool might help... take a deeper look in to analytics and webmaster tool and you might figure out where the exact problem is!
As this case is very interesting to me let me know if you need any help from me and i would be happy to assist you!

RE: Guest Blog Posting : Is that all it is made out to be?
I am one of those who have spent lot of time on Guest posting and looked at it from many different perspectives...
As a matter of fact all my post are good (IMHO), but I can churn out only 2 or 3 masterpieces per month.
The number in this time seems like your posts are really worth reading for your niche and you deserve the wider eye balls then you are currently getting but I still think that Guest Blogging to high Authority and Trafficked websites for you is important and you should offer your content to highly quality blogs in your niche.
At the same time you should have some attraction on the blog that grab the readers and visitors attention and make them visit again and again...until your over all authority go increased in your niche.
Once you have kind of name then you can always skip the guest blogging to 3rd party websites but at the same time you will get offer from other bloggers to allow them to write on your blog.
So, Guest blogging allow you to build your authority and chance to get more content on your blog for free.
I think Guest Blogging does not offer you links only but it offers you to brand yourself in your niche which is more important than anything else.

RE: Do Google Always Tell You About Penalties?
Penalty can be limited and i have seen websites that drop its ranking for few keywords or few areas of the website got hit by the update! so its fairly possible!
-
RE: Our Developer Site randomly drops 10+ places in Google searches for our Company Name. Why?
Tylor if you are not making any major changes to the website then there can be two things that I can come up with.
Try to set Google Alert of this keyword and brand name to see if no one is doing low level link building on your website (keep a check on competitors)
And other thing that is not in your hand is Google testing... Google randomly test many things so may be due to this your site is affecting and as you said that it fixes itself then you don’t have to care much about it and it will be normal soon.
-
RE: Do Google Always Tell You About Penalties?
That right check when the traffic has dropped and then the current changes in the website (if done any) if there is nothing major has been changed on your website and dates where the traffic has been dropped is close to the Panda or Penguin update then you are one of the millions of culprit.
Check your Google webmaster tools and see if you see any link request and if not then you have to get in to doggy links and remove then and tell Google about it... If you will be way to lucky your website will come up in rankings or otherwise you have to delete as many doggy links as possible and build as many high quality links as possible.
To see your complete link profile try and get the links from Majestic SEO, Google Webmaster Tool or more and if you are good with budget then try and use the Link Removal software to spot and remove as many bad links as possible.
Hope this helps!

RE: White Hat/Black Hat: Incentivized SEO Competition?
I don’t see any problem with SEO competition in general but i guess there are few things that should also be considered as important:
- Only white-hat tactics will be used to build links and content to the website
- No low quality link building should be done
- Content should be unique and original and should create to enhance user experience and not search engine experience.
I also feel that instead of measuring 1st page ranking as an indicator, the success of the project should be based on number of leads a project generates at the end of the project.
Hope this helps!
I think with the ideas given above.. i don't see any point where this competition go black hat!

RE: How do I 301 redirect a number of pages to one page
Nima what platform are you using?
Is it PHP or ASP? And any specific CMS?
With wordpress all you have to do is to install a redirection plugin and you are good to go... but if you have a normal php based website you have to write the following code in your .htaccess file.
Redirect 301 /oldpage.html http://www.yoursite.com/newpage.html
_ Redirect 301 /oldpage2.html http://www.yoursite.com/newpage.html_
If you are on a ASP platform you have to look in to your IIS and then work accordingly.

RE: Best linking practice for international domains
I think Google is discouraging site-wide links that are included to manipulate Google SERP results and are not for users... in your case they seems completely fine. I guess adding the link to other websites (for people who use language other than English) without the anchor text but on a flag will be a better idea.
Link on a flag on the header or footer will give your visitor a clear idea of where to go if English is not the language he is looking for and as it will not have any anchor text so it will give no red alert to Google for manipulation!
-
RE: Website Crawl problems
When i use the same tactic as you defined in your question’s explanation i was able to see your page in the search results...
Use this common in search bar to see how many pages are indexed in Google ‘site:example.com’.
May be not all the pages are indexed, for that try and check the following two things:
- Make sure all pages of the website are follow, index for Google and other search engines
- Update your sitemap and submit it to Google webmaster tool and you will see the efficiency in website page index.
Hope this helps!

RE: Best practice for introducing new landing page to my site?
James, the best way that I always recommend to my clients is the statistics and presentation. The more you will have stats the more people will link to you and how good your presentation is will help you get more and more natural links.
Stats are something that isn’t SPAMMY content and at the same time attract users and get links from them!
Actually there can be multiple reasons how you can play around with it and stats is only one of the idea… there can be hundreds of different ideas that can come in to mind keeping the industry in mind!

RE: What is the best method to get top 10 ranking ?
I think Matt and David is pretty much right but I will make my own comment on this…
For Beginners obviously there is no good place to start then SEOmoz guide to SEO Beginners…
But if you have done that step then you have to create your website, links, content and almost everything for user and make sure that you are helping user from your efforts…the more you will do work for user the more people will engage with you and you will be able to get top 10 rankings from your desired key phrases… and no Google animal can kill your rankings over night!

RE: Location Based Content / Googlebot
I believe the current progress is pretty much relevant to user but do provide the option to change the location if user want to manually change it! (it will be a good user experience)
To get all links crawled by search engine, here are few things that you should consider!
- Make sure sitemap have all links appearing that have on the website. Including all the links in the xml sitemap will help Google to consider those pages
- Point links to all location pages. This will help Google to consider indexing those pages and make it rank for relevant terms.
- Social Signals are important try to get social value of all location pages as Google usually crawl pages with good social value!
I think the current approach is awesome just add manually change location option if a visitor wants it.
-
RE: Local Keyowrds Search?
I don’t think there is any specific tool for local keyword search but you can always go with Google keyword tool, Google Insight and more to have a little idea of it…Word Tracker and Free keyword discovery are also a good place to start!
But personally to find the REAL actionable keywords I would suggest you to invest a little on PPC and test all local keywords for a week or two to find out the list of keywords that will produce you traffic as well as conversions…

RE: SEO while designing the website and continuous SEO
I think it’s a great question that most people don’t ask.
SEO while development:
This can also further divided in two different parts depending on your budget and goals. Like if you are a simple local business then one way to go with SEO while development is to make sure that website is building currently from Navigation, Content, links, hosting and domain point of view. Other way to go is to have pre promotional plan to engage the target audience even before the website go live and at the same time making sure that website is fit from all development and on-page areas.
Continuous SEO
In this SEO service you expect results, you expect to get yourself on top of search engine from the desired key phrases and get leads and sales for the business out of it. There is no time limit to it but usually one can expect to start seeing results within 4 to 6 month of time (depending on niche and industry)
I believe you should go for One time SEO, with or without the promotion plan is up to your business strategy and budget for SEO.

RE: Website accessible on http and https. Is it bad?
Depends, If you have secure login system on your website then you cannot put 301 on https because in that case user might not be able to access the login area.
Adding canonical is fine and you can also restrict from crawling by adding it in to Robots.txt file.

RE: Viral content for kitchen cabinet and bathroom vanity retail sites (separate sites)
Obviously the idea cannot come in handy but here is a rough idea for you in your related niche...
Take some topic like ‘Idea of a Perfect luxurious Kitchen!’ and put one image that sounds perfectly ideal...
Below to the image allow people to talk about this kitchen and submit the picture of their ideal kitchen... and start promoting the age...
As it is UGC based people will automatically participate and share the content on social media and link to it by discussing it on the blog and forums...

RE: Penguin 301 Re-Direct
301 simply means that link juice will transfer from old domain to the new one so if it was really penguin and the website get hit really because of links then yes it is bad or else the negative impact of links will transfer on the new domain...
I agree with the Alan’s Idea of disavow links but it will take a lot of time... so why not invest some time on link removing?
-
RE: Link Building for Landing Page
I am not sure what your client industry is so I am pitching the idea in general and then you can change it as per your industry.
Why not you put something interesting and valuable to your audience instead of a coming soon page... like provide a FREE guide to something what most people in your niche are looking for!
This will help you get some natural links from different multiple domains and at the same time this will increase your email list that you can later use to increase your sales ratio and more...

RE: Looking for good legal web directories

But as you asked for it i can provide you one resource that have the list of legal web directories...

RE: Social Bookmarks
I know about DIGG and its no follow but i dont have a clear idea about what others are do follow book marking website... the list of do follow social bookmarking website can easily be available online.
The point is if you are using social bookmarking website, its better not to consider it too important and spend too much time on it. There are some good bookmarking website like Delicious, Reddit and more...

RE: Best Way to Build up Likes
Glad that you are planning to get links, the legitimate way… there can be several ways to get quality likes on your facebook fan page.
My suggestions are that you should go for the likes that are coming from your targeted audience and in order to do that here are my advices:
- As you said you offer a personal development training, so why not offer a special discount to your facebook fans only and if someone wants to avail a discount he/she have to be the facebook fan.
- Encourage targeted people to like you and share it with others though Tees, activities and others…
- Offer free lecture on personal development training and make it available for the people upon liking the page.
There can be many ideas so the more you can invest the more likes you can get out of it.

Clearly seems like a bug with your SEOmoz bar (or whatever you are using) try to uninstall and restart it again!
-
RE: Dentist office website has foreign country backlinks. Scrap it or Move On
I agree with Alan and furthermore, I believe being an ethical SEO, your Job is to build quality links from relevant resources… in that case your job should be to build as many quality links as possible to make the link profile look natural… the more natural your link profile would be the more credibility it will have in the eye of Google and other search engines…
I believe you should continue with the current domain and start building quality links on it.

RE: .gb.net domains good for SEO?
In terms of SEO there is no extra advantage of it! And at the same time this sounds a bit difficult. In my opinion the domain name should be short, simple and easy to remember instead of all this shortcut tactic…

RE: SEOMOZ returns duplicate title and description
Its Meta description that we use for SEO. You will find the below given code in the for Meta description!

RE: Checking for content originality in a site
Copycsape.com is a good place to see how much your content is duplicated with others…
If I would be at your place I might never have considered duplicate content as a problem because of the following facts:
- I am the original source of the content
- Google is smart it can guess who the real content creator is and give all credits to original content instead of content scrapers…
Mostly this happens with blog, infect SEOmoz blog’s content has been copied on multiple places but I a haven’t noticed any penalty on SEOmoz nor I see scrapers ranking above the original content.

RE: Ranking for competitor brand terms
Hello Nicola,
In my 4 years of experience as an agency SEO I only once accept this challenge and that is because my client was a reseller and he wants to come up on the 1st page with the brand name of the manufacturer. I believe if this is the case at your end then I don’t think this make you wear a gray hat but in my experience this is extremely difficult in terms of competition and takes a long way to be on the first page.
If your case is not similar to the one mentioned above then I would want you to consider few important things before planning this:
- Trust of your own brand
Think from the angle of a visit that type in your competitor’s key phrases and find your website. After clicking it he/she might not find what he/she was expecting and this is where you will lose your own brand’s trust level.
If people are coming to your website and do not find what they are really looking for then eventually you will lose the trust of your own website/brand.
- Bounce Rate
If people coming to your website from your competitor’s brand name.. I believe they will only increase the bounce rate because of the fact that they didn’t find what exactly they were looking for.
- Killing User experience
This activity might kill the user experience to a higher extent due to the fact that you are taking them somewhere else when they are looking for something else.

RE: Any recommendation for UK based hosting company?
I believe shouting out with one company name won’t be a good idea so here is the list of top 25 hosting companies based in UK:

hope this helps!

RE: How much number of root domain affect in SEO?
Kevin, while analyzing your competitors and also while building your own strategy, the most important thing that you have to consider is quality.
Usually good amount of links from fewer domains is not really helpful and it is always advisable to earn links from different domains….
I think your first step must be to figure out the quality of domains from where your competitors are getting a link, are they relevant websites? News websites? High authority? And other important factors…
Step two is to design you strategy in which you have to think that can you acquire link from the websites where your competitor’s link is present (if they are credible website this is a good strategy to start.)
You also have to design strategies that allow you to get links from different domains like guest posting, info-graphics, interviews and more…
-
RE: Include Cross Domain Canonical URL's in Sitemap - Yes or No?
There is no BIG problem if you add the pages that contain cross domain canonical tag on them. Why?
The reason why I can say this is because Google is not only indexing the pages from sitemap.xml file, Google have their own crawler and they have the ability to crawl and index the website no matter if you do not have an xml sitemap.
Google is very good at (in my opinion) picking the instructions that are available on the page so if you add the page in the xml sitemap, the crawler will read the instructions on the page and will only index the page that contain original content.
-
RE: Keyword Research: How do I conduct my first client interview?
I think all you need is a face to face sit with him where you can make him understand the conversion funnel and some examples that short term keywords are hard to achieve in 3 months and have a higher bounce rate. In the meanwhile he will get a profit from long tail keywords…as they might have a low search volume but rate of conversion will is high (show him examples and trusted resources...)
Be a non technical person and use the business language… if he sticks up to the 3 months deadline and is not ready to change him mind then he might is not a good client and he will give you much pain in the longer run… think before you start!
Also, make him understand that SEO is a long term investment so returns in 3 month might not be possible but you people can mutually set some KPIs that he can track on monthly basis to conform that you are worth investing….
-
RE: Domain authority
According to SEOmoz, ‘Domain Authority measures the predictive ranking strength of entire domains or subdomains, Page Authority measures the strength of individual page.’
Whenever a new page has been created, the PA of that page should be none and then with the time people stated link to it and PA grows with time…
Usually .EDU links are promising links (no matter from a sub page) so I think you should go for it because with time the PA will increase… and this link is surly going to help you in many ways…
-
RE: Anyone Still Use Article Directories?
I agree with Francisco, if you are an authority website and then you are playing a little bit with article spinning then this might help you boosting your ranking in a short run… but as I am witnessing Google’s eye on low level link building I would highly recommend avoiding it…
If you are talking about writing 1 article for 1 article directory website then I have personally used this and results are kind of positive but to be honest this is not going to give you a BIG boost so I would prefer if you can use your same time and effort in something more valuable…then you should consider that!
-
RE: Will a link from a competitor help me to out rank them?
To be honest it’s never about number of links pointing to your website it’s always about the quality of links pointing back to your site.
You have to analyze their link profile to see if the links pointing to them are quality or they are just some low quality links to increase the total number of links to the site (this is common). If they are quality then your should put your effort in following the footstep of your competitors… but if you think they are not worth investing links then I would prefer to continue investing your time and money on quality and natural link building…as it is long term!
To get competitor’s link list Open Site Explorer or Majestic SEO will work best!

RE: Duplicate content problem from an index.php file
Its simple…
Redirect 301 http://www.mydomain.com/index.php to http://www.mydomain.com and all your link juice value and traffic will move to the index page you want and duplicate content issues will be resolved!
Hope this helps!
