RE: What's the most effective web marketing tactic you've seen or used that very few people know about?
Hi Rand,
I'd like to add amateur video testimonials to the list. Dove started the trend offline by getting actual customers to review the product in their ads and the same concept seems to work quite well online. One of our clients mailed out disposable cameras to their clients and had them record testimonials which were then used in a variety of campaigns including landing pages, email marketing and on their site. Led to an increased engagement as the clients themselves shared the website link where their testimonial was hosted with their friends/acquaintances. Not sure if this qualifies in the "very few people know of" category however i thought I'd still share it.

RE: Bought domains to some of my best keywords. What should I do?
You could also think about setting up these domains as independent sites (not linked with one another) and create separate entities for them. This strategy works well from a risk diversification standpoint so that your entire business is not focused on one domain alone. The key here is to set up these domains as stand alone content rich sites and generate their own ROI. Based on quality content, you might have all these domains ranking high after a while.

RE: Adword competition between exact match and related broad match
Hi Fabrico,
There are a lot of factors that go into determining the actual CPC. These include:
- Click- through rate
- Relevance of the ad copy
- Destination Page Load Time
- Destination Page Quality
- On Site Conversion data
You might have an ad on the top spot paying a lower CPC then the 2nd position or lower.

RE: Do facebook likes have a direct impact on SERPS?
Hi Samuel,
Jason wrote an excellent article covering this topic on SEOMOZ. Even though your facebook likes might not directly influence your rankings, they can definitely impact it through a lower bounce rate and a higher average time on site metrics. There is also the advantage of getting backlinks for content that you share through your social profiles. The link to the full article is provided below:

RE: SEM RUSH
Hi,
We were using them in the past especially for their organic rank checker. Even though it's not accurate , it gives you an idea for what keywords a site is ranking for. (You can use other tools to check the accurate ranks for those keywords)
The cancellation was pretty straight forward. We just sent an email and stopped getting billed the next month. We have since signed back with them. Did you try reaching out to them at this # on the link below?

RE: Active Domain Resale?
Hi Carolina,
A quick glance in the whois records for their own domain reveals the following info:

Great Value Domains LLC
Michael Newton

RE: Ecommerce best-of-the-web article - big article - navigation tricks
Hi Bob,
Some thoughts below:
- You might want to try a sticky navigation so that the top navigation follows the user as they scroll down the article page
- Trying a sliding secondary navigation option. Sort of like gmail with the labels following the user as they scroll down their mail
Hope this helps.

RE: Main Page Gone For Main Keyword
hmm then it might be one of following:
- The algo updates impacted the competitor sites and rewarded them with higher positions for more quality content than your site
- Their link profile for that keyword is better than yours

RE: Main Page Gone For Main Keyword
Hi Kade,
I see this page ranking http://www.snoshield.com/snowGuards.aspx on position 32 for this keyword.Did you make any recent changes on the home page optimization ( altering title tags or any other on site changes) besides the link building efforts that you mentioned.
Try out this tool to check if you have been impacted by any of Google's algo updates.

RE: Duplicate titles- what quailfies??
the pipe or hyphen practice is just for aesthetic purposes and does not have an SEO value associated with it. You are ok to use the brand name in multiple titles along with unique keywords associated with them. Should not have any downside to it. Here's a link to a post discussing this practice.
-
RE: Duplicate titles- what quailfies??
Hi,
In my opinion this is not a duplicate title. From the above example it seems like you are trying to optimize the pages for 2 different keywords ( Kelowna Real Estate and Kelowna Condos)
From an aesthetic perspective you might want to consider adding hyphens or pipes between the keywords and your brand. ( e.g Kelowna Real estate | Smith McLellan Group )
You may also want to consider putting your brand name first in the title tag if it has branding and is popular with your target audience to impact the click thru rates in the search engine results.

RE: What are your favorite articles graphically?
Hi Bob,
Personally love the style adopted by The New Yorker . Lots of "white" space on the pages , the font used is very readable, nice combination of images and text.

RE: On Page vs Off Page - Which Has a Greater Effect on Rankings?
Hi Zora,
My thoughts are that it really depends on the competition in your niche. If it is not very competitive then just the on site optimization itself should bring you good results. (quality , optimized content being key). If ,on the other hand, there is a lot of competition for the keywords that you are trying to rank for , you will have to do the whole bit (on site and off site) to get traction.
-
RE: What's the latest on Title Tags?
Hi Dave,
Just to be on the safe side, i'd advise optimizing each title tag for one keyword. Seen a lot of sites get hit with the overoptimizaiton penalty. You may think that having the keyword twice in the title tag might not do much harm, however when you start couting the # of instances the keyword is used on the page ( in the content, anchor text, image tags etc), it all adds up.

RE: Hosting Providers and SEO
When we recommend a hosting provider to a client, there are 5 important considerations for us:
-
Reliability and Uptime
-
Pricing
-
Support
-
Backup services
-
User Friendly Back end ( C panel, Webmail)
Rack space excels in all these categories. For the more price conscious clients, we recommend host gator which has proven to be another solid option for our clients.

RE: How do you archive content?
Hi Sorina,
Archiving is more about classifying information/content that is either outdated or not being accessed that frequently by the visitors into a separate section on your site. I would not no index those pages because they might be ranking well in the search engines and still be getting traffic to the site. You can do this creating an "archives" section on your site so that if the visitors want to access the old content on your site they can still do so by accessing that section.
Here is a useful post on archiving content on your site

You could try contentproz.net for the ebooks. You could also get good ebook writers on elance and vworker.
All the best.

RE: Hosting Providers and SEO
Hi Joel,
Changing a hosting provider should not impact your rankings or traffic. We have changed hosting for a lot of websites without any adverse impact in rankings.Just make sure that all the site files are transferred correctly on the new hosting account.
If the new and the existing hosting providers are located in the different countries , that can impact the results.
We recommend Rackspace to our clients for their hosting needs.

RE: Opinions about good article writers and where to find them
Hi Cesar,
You can try sites like vworker.com and elance to find good writers. I suggest reviewing their writing samples in detail to get an idea of their writing quality and style. You can also try posting ads on craigslist under the "writing/editing" section.

RE: How to make new content Indexed faster by google
Hi Sebastian,
How old is your site? Try a combination of social bookmarking your site/posts, using social media (facebook, twitter, google+) to push your content and pinging your site . All these efforts should help your posts get indexed faster.

RE: Wordpress "incoming search terms" plugin
Hi Joe,
Welcome to the community.
In my opinion, be very careful of using this plugin especially with Google going aggressive with their over optimization penalty. It does not look very aesthetically appealing to have visitors looking at a bunch of search terms at the end of your blog posts.

RE: How to find the authorities site to link from
You might find this post from Scott Mclay posted today quite helpful on this link.
The most often used techniques by us include:
- Open site explorer: studying the link profiles of our competitors
- Advanced Search Operators as mentioned by Scott and referenced in this link
- Researching blogging opportunities with related industry sites.Quite often we have seen that a lot of chamber of commerce sites are very open to having members contribute content for their site and they dont mind if you add a link to your site in your author bio or the post.
- Top 10 list related to the client's vertical. These kinds of posts are always interesting and fun to read and attract lots of sites wanting to share it with their visitors
