Posting "similar" blog posts to multiple blog sites seems "shady", does it work?
-
I've read a lot of info here in the Q & A tonight and there was a thread that stated it's potentially a good thing to post content on multiple blog platforms such as:
I've also been trying to figure out how to deal with my blog as a subfolder instead of a subdomain. That research in Q & A clearly indicates that Google treats subdomains basically like separate websites and links from my blog to my main website will not be as valuable if i stay the course with my blog on a subdomain short term.
Given that, if the 4 blogging tools above all require the use of a subdomain, then how am I actually taking advantage of the seo value of blogger,posterous, tumblr? In my case my domains would be:
Just not adding up to being viable given what I read states these would be treated as new websites, not to mention I worry these posts, even slightly differentiated, would be suspect. Who am I truly benefitting by doing this? Users?

Thanks Shelly. My bad...2 different questions in the same question :}
My current CMS where steripen.com is, doesn't provide me ability to integrate wordpress or any other blog tools. It's a standalone 3rd party cms platform.
Unfortunately the blogging tools are antiquated so short-term I am forced with subdomain. I decided to look at it that "I can provide my users with the best presentation and utility of info about SteriPEN by using the subdomain (and WordPress)." I'll have to live with the seo consequences for now until we overhaul steripen.com soon.
In terms of posting to the microblogs, this to me is like whoring content. Unless I can build the blogs in such a way that they are non-SteriPEN branded niche blogs focused on a topic, I just don't see it. And I don't have the time/money to invest in that right now.

Google is clever enough to know that although the domains you listed are pretty strong, they will judge each blog on it's own without taking into consideration the domain level strength(esp since it's a free platform).
My advice is to have one blog, on your own site and put the best possible content on it. Putting thin and slightly tweaked content all over the show is not going to bring you the kind of results you're after.
Those blogging platforms do have their uses, but keep in mind the above and that you should not invest too much time in them if you have a core website/business that you're trying to rank/sell etc

Tim,
You can download the above platforms and install them on your own site in a sub folder; you're right that installing in sub folder is the best thing to do. What you're talking about is hosting a blog on the blog's own website (or a subdomain of it).
If you want to install wordpress on your own site for example, you can download it and follow the instructions here;
http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Famous_5-Minute_Install
On your server you may have a control panel that has the ability to install wordpress for you, otherwise it's simply a case of uploading the files to a sub folder as shown in the guide and then logging into your new blog. It's pretty straight forward.
If you still want to setup blogs on the blog's own website, you can, and this can generate some extra links for you, but as you say, you won't benefit from the new blog content being on your own website.

Links from spam sites
Hi! Thank you in advance for your help. Few months ago we suffered a content spam attack. Now, We have discovered that we have imbound links pointing the spam content from external spam and untrusted sites. Could be this affect our ranking? In this case... How can we notify to Google that we refuse these imbound links? Cheers, Luis

Guest Posts on Established Blogger/Wordpress.com sites
How much value do you put on guest post opportunities on blogspot.com or wordpress.com sites (or similar). If the blog is established, gets good readership and traffic, do you consider it to be as useful as a privately hosted blog? I'm not really looking for a definitive answer here, just people's thoughts. Cheers, Bede

Multiple Links from High Ranking Site Vs. Links from Multiple Domains - What's More Important?
I understand it is important to get links from many quality domains. Currently, I do have links from top domains (PR, Trust) and it I can get more from (high rank) pages on these same domains. Would it be better to focus on expanding my reach (find additional domains to link from) or to continue to build links from the current domains I have a connection with? What is weighted more? I realize doing both is important, but trying to figure out how to best use my time. Thanks! David

My competitors all seem to use "junk" pages to rank / backlink, how to compete and not cheat
Hello, Page 1 of Google for the word "copier lease" and most other valuable copier leasing terms are dominated by the same 4-5 for organic (PPC too of course, but organic is what I want) They all use some SEO company, so when I go and look for good link oppertunities, most of the pages I find are just SEO companies who of couse would never be interested in a competitor's link. Examples: ajaxunion blogspot com or excellentpoly blogspot com and the list goes on, all just AjaxUnion "blog pages". blog homerenovationguide com /2011/06/15/repair-or-replace is just inhouse SEO making ranking pages for CostOwl. So, its hard NOT to want to throw up a blog farm and do as "the Romans do". What ideas do you all have to get backlinks in this market of Copier Leasing that would hold up. Thanks 6SW66.png 6SW66.png

Advice On Promoting A Hosting Site
hi, I hope some of you might be able to give me a few pointers here. A friend of mine has started a web hosting company in the UK. Not an affiliate but actually owns a data centre, Now he has a great deal of experience in running hosting in other countries but all his work came from large corporate companies and not from the net. The UK hosting he wants to promote from online sales as well. Now I know his site needs considerable work (http://www.cloudwebsters.co.uk) but I want to be able to give him some advice on the best ways to get started promoting his site. Obviously content is a key to success, but not sure how he can incorporate lots of content into the site as it is effectively e-commerce. Looking at sites such as UK2.net they have a lot of pages on the site but they are all minimal content. such as http://www.uk2.net/glossary/moreuk2/ which only has a couple of sentences on them. Is this really the way to go for the site, my feeling is no as it does not offer any real quality but your opinions are appreciated. Thanks Jenson

Are link exchanges bad for SEO these days? Also, is adding my site to free yet relevent directory sites a bad idea?
I operate a computer services company in Eugene, Oregon called "Eugene Computer Geeks". We do a lot of web design, and need incoming links to my site very badly. Lately I've been asking clients if they would link to me, but they almost always ask for a link in return. If we exchange links, does Google penalize my site? Would the incoming link be better for SEO if I'm not linking back to the other site? ALSO Is it possible that manually submitting my site to free, yet relevant web directories would hurt my rankings? It's not a big deal to me if it doesn't help my rankings, as I see a benefit to having my site listed, but wanted to make sure there wasn't a chance that it would hurt my rankings. As far as I know all the directories are free from SPAM, porn, warez, or anything like that. Thanks!
