I'v been trying to rank for this word for a long time
-
Hi,
I have this one page designed to rank for a spesific word i google (sweden). The page has a flawless moz grade A on-page. While my competator ranks for their subdomain, also grade A.
I rank 6 he ranks 2 in google. Would I be doing a misstake if i 301 directed it to mu subdomain.
In visitor perspective it would be a better landig page aswell. I dont want to lose my rank though.
Best practice, anyone?

Well if you redirect to the root domain you may still lose your position. Google has pulled out that particular page to show because it's the most relevant page on the website for that particular query. It makes more sense to either add more content to that page or increase the number of links to it.
Is there anything your competitor is doing on their page that you're not? Can you do it better? Can you give more value to readers of that page?

Hi Bjorn,
The simple answer is to work on the link profile for the page.
The difference between achieving 2 or 6 is likely fairly small as magicrob indicated.
I would:
- Review internal linking to the page to ensure that it is getting some help from your higher authority page(s)
- Work on obtaining more good quality external links using a diverse range of anchor text.
Also, remember that with regionalization and personalization, rankings are indicative these days, not set in concrete. Obtaining and maintaining good Page Authority and Domain Authority should always be a part of your plan.

Actually, studies have shown that click through rate drops off dramatically after search result #3 and continues to drop the further you go down the page... Being on page 1 isn't necessarily good enough anymore!
-
Personally, I would be happy in your position and and not mess with much. That's just me. Ranking 2 or ranking 6........... both are good. Right?
-
Im sorry I did a misstake here, its the root domain ofcourse!
My page /page is ranking number 6 and I about 10 links to that page and my question is if I was to redirect that page to my root domain instead would that be a mistake?
-
Hi
Yes it would probably turn out to be a mistake if you redirected a page to a subdomain. Subdomains are considered more like separate sites than folders or pages. If you haven't got a subdomain with as-strong a link profile as your current ranking page then you'll likely lose the ranking, either temporarily or permanently.
Are you acquiring links to your current ranking page? That's probably the difference between position 6 and position 2.
Cheers
Rob

Can you share a link to your site, and your competitors site. I would love to take a look at it.

Having Trouble Ranking .us for branded Keyword
Hi Mozers, First time poster here. I run the website http://OrangeOctop.us/, it provides winning tips for FIFA, NBA 2K, NHL. The domain authority is 22 but I am unable to rank for the term OrangeOctopus. I know there are dozens of factors that should be assessed when looking at competition in Google (such as backlinks, domain age/relevance, social). However, I feel like you guys might have some suggestions for being able to rank for OrangeOctopus. Thank you! Joey

Moz Rank Moz Trust and Authority higher than my competitor but still getting outranked
Hi There, I'm new to SeoMoz but ive been using it for the past month and I've been using the tools to try to optimize my site but for some reason even though my metrics are showing that my rank and authority are rising past my competitor they still rank higher in the searches. my website is the site on the far left with the domain authority @27. the competitor that keeps outranking me is the third from the left with a domain authority of 12. If anyone can advise as to why I'm being outranked that would be very helpful. I'm stumped here. Thanks guys! eYtMRr9.png

What's the value of Exact Match Keyword Domains vs. Company Name Domains?
Hey Mozers, I was in a discussion this morning about the value of Exact Match Keyword domains vs. a company name domain and wanted to get a little more clarification. Let's say we are doing a site for a company called Favored Dental, and they have had the domain favoredental.com for quite a while and have their authority built up in it. Is it better to have favored-dental.com or favoreddental.co or keep its current form? The reasoning behind the alternate domains would be they have the exact match keyterm, in this case lets say "Favored Dental" is the keyterm we were going after. To my knowledge EMDs aren't as relevant as they'd use to be as Google would rather branding of companies instead of keyterm domains? Is this correct, or do EMDs of keywords you're going after hold higher authority? Thanks for the clarification!

Continuous drop in Rankings on Google.uk
I have a Website who was ranked top 6 for most competitive keywords on Google.co.uk but suddenly dropped to page 2 after 21st January 2013 and later back to top 10 position and now dropped to pages 2 to 5, for most terms. I initially thought it was the transition rank causing this fluctuations. The strange thing is, i haven't done anything wrong in terms of back linking efforts. My site is content rich and offers real value to users also, the website PR increased from 3 to 4 recently, my site seomoz rank, PA, DA and Moz trust is higher than top ranked websites above mine. Please any suggestions?? Kindly help.....

Using Semantic Language to rank, how much stock do you put into this? (LSI)
In theory, analyzing the top results for a given phrase and comparing the common words and phrases would indicate what google considers relative language to the query. Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) was and still is a buzz phrase for some SEOs. But how much stock do you give to the idea that if you can determine the common language for top rankers and then duplicate that language and density of common words that your website will then rank for that query you desire? Has anyone here tested the theory of using semantic language from the results themselves to better rank?

How to check Google Keyword rankings?
Hey, So I recently watched the DuckDuckGo commercial about Google's results bubble. My question is how can you get the actual keyword rankings of relevant key phrases without Google taking your locations and search history into account? Would it just be a case of clearing your cache & history from the beginning of time or is there an accurate tool (other than SEOmoz ofc that I can use? Best regards, Dan

Wondering why my site ranks well for one page and not another.
Customers mainly find our site from searching very specific part numbers on google. My site is launch3telecom.com. Take for example these two parts:

MT500A-81015 MR050-81045 Search only those parts in google - we rank 3rd for one of them and don't rank at all for another. Is there any way to check backlinks pointing to those pages? We even show up before big sites like ebay and such on one of them. Can anyone help me understand this?0
