Use of competitive kw search software for KW discovery for SEO
-
I use traditional methods for keyword discovery, but occured to me that perhaps competitive keyword software should be applied to competitor's sites for further possibilitites.
Any opinions or experience using this strategy? I know it used primarily for PPC, but value for SEO KW discovery?
Any personal recommendations on which programs considered most effective?
Thanks.

Hi... posted this question on Friday and you were great responding back very quickly.
I responded back sharing my goal is to use it to gain some insights about my competitors.
I see you haven't responded. I'd be appreciative to know what program/software you recommend.
Thanks.

Thanks Himanshu...
Sounds interesting and something I'll try. I'm not familiar with these other software recommendations and appreciate the suggestions.
As you well know, this process is tedious enough. Getting some shortcuts or employing some alternative strategies may help, if not make it more interesting.
Thanks. Alan

yes. my thinking is that strong competitors have done their due diligence. why not review their efforts against my results to look for any gaps or more creative thinking.
i've found that many of our competitors employ this approach with copy, why not do the same with KW determination?
Thanks.

I use 'semrush' to determine keywords which are bringing maximum number of organic traffic to my competitors website. I also use 'screaming frog seo spider' to quickly scan the title tags of my competitors and determine the keywords they are targeting. You can also use 'xenu' for this purpose. Competitive analysis can give you lot of keyword ideas which you may not be able to find otherwise.

I think I know exactly what you're looking for...
It is for competitors though, yes?

Domain and urls aren't showing up in Google search
Hi, Moz community, I hope you are staying safe, I have been trying to search our website in Google by using the whole domain name, but it's not showing up. For example: https://www.example.com/

https://www.example.com/inner-page.html
Or if search brand name: Example, doesn't come up But when I try example.com, it comes up along with other pages. Neither the inner pages are being come up in the search nor the home page with https://www.example.com. I have checked with Site:example.com, it is showing all the pages, but it is weird on the other hand that it is not visible in the search, what could be the reason? Any tool to check it? I thought it was because of the latest core update from Google. But, there are many keywords in the rankings, so I am sure the website hasn't been impacted. I checked penalties or issues through many tools and even in the search console, everything is fine. Any help would be appreciated.1 -
Keyword Research Competition
Hello everyone. Was talking to my "competition" the other day and they mentioned the amount of traffic they are getting from google. It's double what I currently am receiving. I feel like I am not targeting the correct keywords. What is the best way to research competitions keywords? Anyway to find out what is driving traffic their direction?

Why am I trusting in MozRank and the other scores (from a part time SEO perspective)?
I'll jump right in. I look at the "Competitive Link Analysis" and I see that it says at the top "See the Top 5 contenders for each SEO ranking factor and compare it against the competition." I take them at their word that the 5 links they are displaying are what they think the 5 best links are. On my site they do alright, although my top 3 links are from the same domain, and I know that those links aren't really that great. But they are decent and whatever. The next two are good links. HOWEVER, the links for my competitors are in many cases CRAP. Yet Moz shows them as being the best link my competitor's have. Or at least in this analysis. For example, The number 1 link (supposedly) for a competitor of mine is a link from their own Pinterest page. They have 50 followers. I have personally dug up links they have that are 1000X better than this link. Links so much better that someone just using common sense and no training whatsoever would know that it is a better link. I do get valuable information from this site, but stuff like this makes me wonder if I'd be just fine without any of their link building tools and just going on my own. I do not trust their accuracy. And yes, I've read all the blogs about how they correlate to rankings... Am I missing something? I know you can't be perfect, but this stuff seems to be very poor information in some cases. I have been a member for a year roughly.

Technorati - SEO Benefit?
Would listing my content / blogs on Technorati have an SEO benefit? A few months ago, I did a piece of analysis on our competitiors' link profiles and then ranked the linking root domains to get the highest scores. Technorati was one of the domains with a high domain authority and is also relevant to our business. On the other hand, I've seen on whiteboard Friday's that directories are losing their importance. My gut feeling is that this is something that is worth doing because it is easy to implement but that we shouldn't expect amazing returns in terms of traffic / page authority scores. Your opinions would be much appreciated 🙂

Tracking competitors in search engines
Hi Mozzers, I'm using Advanced Web Rankings (AWR) to track my site and a number of competitors in Google - seeing how rankings and brand visibility change from week to week. I didn't set this up from scratch and I'm worrying with all of the recent algorithm changes that I might well be tracking the wrong competitors. Is there a tool or methodology I can use to find the biggest players in the market? I'm in the travel market so there's lots of choice and I track the large sites but want to be sure I'm aware of smaller/mid-sized sites gaining visibility without me tracking them via a platform like AWR. Many thanks!

Keyword - Competition between competitors
So, I'm about 2-3 weeks into my subscription and see a renewal coming. I love the information I'm getting - but I really want to maximize my capabilities with these tools. Any article/blogs or forum post suggestions that I should read would be awesome, right now I'm still in that phase where i see lots of cool things - but have no idea to fully use them to really give me that even bigger boost. My First Question is - There are some keywords, that I climb and sometimes slip. But overall a competitor and i flip flop between 15-22 range for it. What would be a good way for me to really add that extra push to throw me down into the top ten and leave them in the dust?.. Also on the Keyword topic - There are a lot of keywords they probably rank for that I don't, what is the best way to go about identifying keywords they may targeting/have a good presence in that I'm not aware of. I do have a site that is on multiple newspapers, and .gov sites. Among other things... This has already proven to be very good for me. But I'm 99% sure I have a few/lot of leaks, that if they were plugged - We would see a lot of good things come from those results.

Raise your hand if you're doing SEO for manufacturers please.
When you're working for a manufacturer it's not exactly the same as working for a company that is flat-out informing people with content and links and revealing a lot of information (relatively speaking). Please tell me what you do when you're working with a client that is not willing to reveal too much because competition = fear of the unknown (like if you take a chance and post something online that your competition may use against you). I would appreciate less speculative and more informed answers from people who have actually done this kind of work - as opposed to those who think theoretically they may know the best way to go because they work for other types of businesses that are not as proprietary as manufacturing is. Thank you.

How can I estimate a domain's overall organic search traffic - any tools?
Most of my analysis revolves around looking at rankings for specific keyword phrases that I've identified as important/relevant. But it'd be nice to be able to look at a domain and get a sense for how much organic traffic they get overall. If they're not ranking for the keywords I'm researching but have a lot of organic traffic that would be a nice signal to me that they are probably targeting other phrases more or have a big brand presence or something. Any suggestions? Thanks! Jeff Gibson
